Jessica Sanchez makes it to Top 10 of American Idol

MANILA, Philippines - Despite lukewarm reviews of her Thursday (Manila time) performance, Filipino-Mexican Jessica Sanchez inched closer to winning the American Idol crown, making it to the competition's elite Top 10 tier.

Sanchez was visibly relieved when her name was announced as one of the Top 10 contestants on Friday (Manila time).

The day before that, Idol judges Steven Tyler, Jennifer Lopez and Randy Jackson had expressed their disappointment over Sanchez’s performance of Gloria Estefan's "Turn the Beat Around".

Shannon Magrane, who sang a pitchy version of Maria Carey’s 90s megahit "One Sweet Day" was not saved by the judges. Magrane and Jermaine Jones, who had earlier been disqualified from the competition, will no longer tour with the American Idol Season 11 contestants throughout the US this summer.

Sanchez went full throttle on a fast song for her Top 12 performance but didn't get the much-coveted seal of approval from the triumvirate Idol judges.

"If I stay, next time I'll pick a better song," she had said after her performance.
