MANILA, Philippines – Oklahoma City’s All-Star Kevin Durant shredded the Miami Heat for 36 points in Game 1 of the NBA Finals, which the Thunder wound up winning 105-94.
According to ABS-CBN’s TJ Manotoc, it was a sorry loss for the Heat who led by as much as 13 points in the second half and were up 54-47 at halftime.
“They had no answer for the offensive firepower of OKC in the fourth quarter, especially for Kevin Durant,” Manotoc said.
Durant had 17 points in the fourth quarter alone, winning his individual match-up with three-time NBA MVP LeBron James, who scored 30 points but had only seven in the pivotal final period.
Aside from Durant’s offensive explosion, Manotoc noted that the Thunder noticeably tightened their defense in the second half and limited their miscues as well.
He commended Thabo Sefalosha, who limited James in the fourth quarter despite giving up a lot of height.
Manotoc added that Game 2 will be the real test for the Thunder, as the veteran Heat squad will most likely make the needed adjustments to counter OKC’s strengths. -- Dateline Philippines, ANC, June 13, 2012.
