MANILA – Filipino-British striker Phil Younghusband is on a list of 10 players who have performed better for their national teams than with their respective clubs.
Football website Goal.com listed Younghusband at No. 10 on a list of reliable scorers in international competitions.
“The Surrey-born Chelsea trainee never made the grade at Stamford Bridge, and played little club football at all prior to being released from his contract and moving to the Philippines in 2008. He has always been a consistent goalscorer for his country, however,” said the report.
Younghusband registered 26 goals in 38 international games which is an impressive rate, according to Goal.com.
The 25-year-old Filipino-British scored his latest goal in the Azkals' 2-0 shutout win against Singapore last Friday.
“He is now resurrecting his club career with local side Loyola Meralco Sparks and claimed the Golden Boot at the AFC Challenge Cup earlier this year,” said the report.
