The 22-year-old actor currently stars in the country's current highest rating TV drama "Juan dela Cruz," where he is part of a love triangle with Coco Martin and Erich Gonzales.
Like the 22-year-old actress, Villaflor was a contestant in the second season of SCQ. Gonzales emerged champion, while he finished second place.
Since then, the two would co-star in a number of television series where she would portray lead, while he plays a supporting character, including "Sana Maulit Muli" in 2007 and "Maria la del Barrio" in 2011.
But in "Juan dela Cruz," the two are finally paired, playing characters whose respective pasts spell a future where they ultimately stand at odds with each other. He plays the "son of darkness," while she is destined to be an "aswang hunter."
With a nationwide rating averaging 35%, according to data from multi-national market research group Kantar Media, the Primetime Bida series is now arguably the most popular series on local TV.
On finally getting his breakthrough role, Villaflor thanked the team behind the "teleserye" for entrusting him with portraying Kael.
"Nagpapasalamat ako sa 'Juan dela Cruz,' dahil pinagkatiwalaan nila ako sa role ko, at sa mga sumusuporta ng 'Juan dela Cruz' dahil masasabi ko sa kanila na hindi biro ang character ko dito, malaking bagay," he told ABS-CBN News in a recent interview.
"Isa sa mga mabigat na karakter dito sa 'Juan dela Cruz' ay si Kael, kaya para sa mga Kapamilya nating sumusuporta, para sa inyo po ang ginagawa ko," he said.
Villaflor added: "Pinaghuhusayan ko at pinag-iigihan ko pa para mapa-oo kayo ni Kael at magustuhan niyo ang character ko."
Kael is also the rival of the title character portrayed by Martin as the two leading men compete for the affection of Rosario, the character portrayed by Gonzales.
Of starring with the award-winning actor, Villaflor said, "Isang karangalan 'yun para sa 'kin, dahil sa dinami-dami ng artista sa showbiz, sa dami ng gusto makatrabaho si Coco Martin, isa ako doon, sa mga mapalad."
