MANILA, Philippines – Miami Heat head coach Erik Spoelstra surprised a lot of people when he appeared at a fundraising event last week with his girlfriend for the first time.
Citing entertainment website Gossip Extra, the Miami Herald said the 42-year old Filipino-American coach walked the red carpet at Heat broadcasters Eric Reid and Tony Fiorentino‘s annual fundraiser with girlfriend Nikki Sapp.
The report said Spoelstra has been dating Sapp, 24, who used to dance during Heat games since 2006.
According to her website, Sapp is now traveling back and forth from Los Angeles to Miami because she’s currently directing the famous Guy Hepner art gallery in West Hollywood, California.
Spoelstra made history last June when he became the first Filipino-American coach to lead his team to an NBA championship. The Heat defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder in five games to win their second title in franchise history.
He has already visited the Philippines for the past three summers to conduct basketball clinics.
His last Manila visit was in August 2012 as part of the NBA Trophy Tour.
