UFC likely to hold fight card in Manila 2014

MANILA – If everything falls into place, fight fans will get to see a live UFC fight in the Philippines next year.

Mark Fischer, managing director of UFC Asia, said chances are good that a UFC card will be held in the Philippines.

He said the Philippines is the third biggest market in Asia after Japan and Korea.

“I would like to predict -- and no commitments here -- that we're going to do a fight in the Philippines, most probably in Manila in 2014,” the UFC executive said during Mark Munoz’s press conference in ABS-CBN on Friday.

Fischer said Muñoz, who is currently in Manila for a meet-and-greet with fans, will probably be at the main fight of that card.

The UFC executive said that the promotion has a huge following in the Philippines, thanks to their partnership with BALLS Channel and ABS-CBN.

“Thanks to our partners BALLS and ABS-CBN for promoting our fights and putting our fights on the air. Now it's time to put our fight over on the ground,” he said.

UFC has been aggressively promoting MMA in the Philippines and has been working with BALLS Channel in bringing over several MMA superstars.

Among premium fighters who have already visited the Philippines are future hall of famer BJ “The Prodigy” Penn, former light heavyweight champion Chuck Liddell, Brandon “The Truth” Vera, and reigning UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre.
