Back to School Sales Aren’t Just for Kids

Unless you live under a rock, there’s no way to miss the many back-to-school sales that start in July and are in earnest in August.  If you have kids, you’re likely stocking up on basics like binders, notebooks, backpacks, pens and pencils. If you don’t have kids, you might just ignore back-to-school sales.  After all, you don’t have kids to shop for.

However, everyone can benefit from back to school sales.  In fact, back to school sales now are beginning to seem to compete with Black Friday sales (minus the crowds).  Here are some excellent ways to use the back-to-school sales to your advantage:

1.  Stock up on school supplies and donate them.

If you’d like to donate but don’t have a lot of extra money, this is the perfect way to give.  Operation Christmas Child asks people to fill a shoebox with, among other things, new school supplies.  These boxes are shipped to children all over the world.  You can give to a child in need, and it will cost you less than $10 to fill the shoebox if you stock up during back-to-school sales.

2.  Buy towels and bedding.

Back-to-school sales aren’t just for elementary school supplies.  Stores are also marketing to college students heading out on their own for the first time.  These college freshmen will need to outfit their apartments or dorms with towels, sheets, laundry baskets, waste baskets, and other items, all of which are on sale now.  Even if you’re not going to college, now might be a great time to replace your tired, worn out towels.

3.  Buy electronics.

If you’re in need of a computer, now is the time.  Those same college students outfitting their dorms also need new computers.  In addition, more and more students of all ages are using technology in their studies, so you should also be able to find good deals on iPads, tablets, and Kindles, to name a few.

4.  Household appliances.

If you’re in need of a new vacuum or coffee maker, now is the time to buy it.  How about a microwave or a toaster oven?  Yep, now is the time.  Another idea is to buy these items now on sale and save them for Christmas presents.  Perhaps you know someone with an old coffee maker.  Buy a new one on sale and stash it away until the holidays as a much appreciated gift.

5.  Hygiene items.

Parents have to send their college students off with toiletries.  Stock up on shampoo and soap, deodorant and razors while they are priced low for the college kids.

You may think of back to school sales as simply those supplies needed in the classroom, but there is so much more than that on sale.  You’ll find everything you need to set up house as well as electronics and personal supplies.

If you haven’t started shopping yet and you’re in need of something, get out there and snag your deal now.  Back to school sales will only be around for a few more weeks.
