Wrestling legend Jimmy Snuka charged with murder

Former professional wrestling star Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka has been charged with third-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter in the death of his girlfriend in 1983, the Associated Press reported.

Snuka has been linked to the death of his then-girlfriend, Nancy Argentino, who was 23 when she died in 1983. According to the AP report, Snuka told police that he found Argentino unresponsive in the bed of their hotel room in Whitehall Township. Argentino was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Argentino died of traumatic brain injuries, according to an autopsy. She also had more than three dozen cuts and bruises on her body; the autopsy concluded those injuries "were consistent with being hit with a stationary object."

The case was re-opened in 2013, and on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila), prosecutors in Lehigh County revealed the results of a grand jury investigation.

"The grand jury's report said Snuka had provided more than a half-dozen shifting accounts of Argentino's injuries," AP reported. "The grand jury also said it heard evidence that Snuka beat Argentino in a hotel room in Syracuse, New York, in January 1983… and repeatedly assaulted his wife, Sharon, in the fall of 1993."

Snuka was arraigned on Tuesday and sent to Lehigh County Jail.

Snuka was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996.
