Online tool offers quality assistance for legal research
An online tool that makes the time-consuming research for legal knowledge simpler is now available in the Philippines.
My Legal Whiz, an online subscription-based research and services platform, provides easy and quick access to rich and updated content of legal knowledge.
"My Legal Whiz is a combination of a knowledge database and also research assistance. We have a system called LEA. It's a legal engineer assistant that can help users in drafting legal documents, in explanation of legal terms and also in summarizing cases," said Joseph Dexter Feliciano, founder and CEO of My Legal Whiz.
Feliciano added that My Legal Whiz works like a virtual legal companion, whether students or lawyers and professionals, giving them immediate assistance right at their fingertips.
He said the service can help in understanding cases and even assist in coming up with sound legal advice.
Unlike the raw content and information which are readily found on the Internet, Feliciano said My Legal Whiz has organized relevant discussions, cases, citations and explanations in a way that a researcher can draw the needed information without the hassle.
He said the prevalence of general content about law was one of the reasons he conceived the online platform in 2008 -- to come up with accessible yet vetted legal information through proper citations and discussions.
With the help of technology, Feliciano said My Legal Whiz was created like a comprehensive law library focused locally across all subjects of law.
"My Legal Whiz is assuring a new age. Because of this system, even non-lawyers can use it and can search for relevant legal terms," he said.
However, Feliciano clarified that the system offers no lawyer-client relationship for legal advice, but more of recommendation, referral and drafting templates.
Stressing the importance of legal knowledge, Feliciano said the technology aims to reach more people especially the masses.
"We have a lot of lawyers like more than 50,000 on record. But they cannot serve millions of marginalized and indigent clients. So My Legal Whiz will fill the gap," he said
Feliciano said the service is currently being promoted to businesses and local government units (LGUs) across the country. The service can be accessed at www.mylegalwhiz.com.
