Samsung S8 moving to 'all-screen' design, leak suggests
MANILA – A case-maker has added fuels to rumors that Samsung Electronics’ upcoming Galaxy S8 will move to a nearly all-screen front with drastically reduced bezels.
Olixar posted an advertisement for an “ultra-thin” case for the unannounced “Galaxy S8 Edge,” with a render of the phone featuring smaller top and bottom borders compared to its predecessor, the Galaxy S7 Edge.
The accessories manufacturer had predicted the demise of the headphone jack and bigger camera lenses for Apple Inc.’s iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus with cases that were advertised ahead of the two phones’ release.
Samsung pushed back the release of the eighth iteration of its Android-powered S line after its stylus-toting Note 7 handsets caught fire shortly after launch late last year, sparking a global recall.
The Galaxy Note 7 was banned by Philippine carriers and Samsung was forced to refund consumers.
Last year, Chinese company Xiaomi released the 6.4-inch Mi Mix with almost no bezels except for a thin strip on its chin that houses the front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.
Samsung’s main rival, Apple Inc., is preparing to launch the 10th anniversary edition of its iPhone this year, which will also feature a much larger screen with reduced bezels.
