After over 2 years, 'Be Careful With My Heart' airs final episode

MANILA - It was indeed a happy ending for the hit daytime series "Be Careful With My Heart", which aired its final episode on Friday (November 28) after running for over two years on ABS-CBN.

It was July 9, 2012 when the "kilig-serye" starring the love team of Maya (Jodi Sta. Maria) and Sir Chief (Richard Yap) first aired on the Kapamilya network.

On its last episode, Maya and Sir Chief remembered their "kilig" moments while enjoying their trip to Vigan, Ilocos Sur.

Sir Chief admitted to Maya that it wasn't an accident when he first said "I love you" to her, and that he kissed his phone when he got a photo of her at the prom of his son, Luke.

He went on to thank Maya for coming into his life, thinking that they would meet in another place if their first encounter at Jones Bridge did not happen.

"Sweetheart, we were destined to meet each other. So kahit ikut-ikutin mo pa ang nangyari sa past, magkikita at magkikita pa rin tayo," Sir Chief said.

After their Vigan trip, Sir Chief surprised Maya with a party for her 30th birthday, which gathered all the people who have been part of her journey.

Tears fell as Maya received good words from the people who are special to her like Kute (Aiza Seguerra), Nanay Teresita (Sylvia Sanchez), Abby (Mutya Orquia) and, of course, Sir Chief.

"Salamat sa lahat ng naki-celebrate sa amin. Thank you sa lahat.

Maraming, maraming salamat sa inyo," Maya said.

They all then emotionally performed the song "Kapit Bisig".

So what happened to the other characters of the series? Here's a quick list:

1. Isabel (Viveika Ravanes), one of the nannies of the Lim family, announced that she is pregnant.
2. Tatay Arturo (Lito Pimentel) asked Nanay Teresita to marry him again.
3. Maya's friend Simon (Paul Jake Castillo) now works in Singapore. He took a short break to attend Maya's birthday party.
4. Maya's friend Lino (Vandolph Quizon) ends up with Thea (Jopay Paguia).

The cast members of "Be Careful With My Heart" bade farewell on Friday in a live television special hosted by Toni Gonzaga.

"Sa lahat po ng taong sumuporta at tumangkilik sa 'Be Careful With My Heart", kung naging inspirasyon kami sa inyo, naging inspirasyon din kayo sa amin. Maraming, maraming salamat po sa inyo and God bless you all," Sta. Maria said.

"This is not goodbye, this is the beginning of something new and something better. Who knows, baka magkita-kita kami ulit, so we will see you soon. Hindi goodbye," Yap said.

Malaysians fall in love with 'Be Careful'

SHAH ALAM, Malaysia - The love story of Maya and Sir Chief has captured the hearts of many Malaysians.

Many Malaysians are glued to their TV sets at 3 p.m. from Monday to Thursday to watch "Be Careful With My Heart" on Malaysian network TV3.

Saad "Daniel" Mahsah, a product development manager for Selangor Tourism, said he and his mother are fans of "Be Careful With My Heart" which is aired in Filipino with Malaysian subtitles. It is said to be one of the most popular foreign dramas on Malaysian TV right now.

The ABS-CBN teleserye stars Jodi Sta. Maria as nanny Maya who falls in love with her employer Sir Chief, played by Richard Yap.

Daniel said watching the TV drama makes him feel closer to Filipinos.

"For me, it's very good because we can watch a different story. We can see Filipino traditions through TV. You can also learn new words and see similarities (in our cultures).... It makes Manila much closer to Kuala Lumpur," he said.

He also related how his friend, who works as a policeman in Sarawak, also loves "Be Careful."

"I have a friend who is a policeman in Sarawak and he is the last person I would think would watch dramas. But when I called him up, he says he's watching the drama at the police station with everyone," Daniel laughed.

ABS-CBNnews.com met another fan of "Be Careful With My Heart," this time in a rural farming village Sungai Sireh in Selangor state.

Maria, who runs a homestay, admitted she watches the show every day with her five daughters.

"I like it very much... (Sir Chief) is very handsome," she said.

Like many Malaysians, Maria and Daniel still can't forget the popular ABS-CBN teleserye "Pangako Sa Yo," which starred Jericho Rosales and Kristine Hermosa. It is considered one of the hit foreign dramas in Malaysia.

"We can still sing the song, 'Pangako sa yo'," Daniel said.

Philippine embassy officials are glad that Filipino TV dramas are helping bridge the cultural gap between the Philipipnes and Malaysia.

"It does help improve the image (of the Philippines)... In the same way, Hollywood promotes American culture outside of America... Yes, it helps. After all, our telenovelas have Asian values, similar to Malaysian values like family, hard work... They're positive values," Consul General Medardo Macaraig said.

Macaraig noted that Filipino dramas such as "Be Careful With My Heart" and "Pangako Sa Yo" have also piqued Malaysians' interest in the Philippines as a tourism destination.

"It does help encourage tourism. A lot of the inquiries that we have received is because of watching these telenovelas. Malaking bagay din ang It's More Fun in the Philippines, our tourism campaign, which has ads appearing on CNN," he said.

The recently concluded wedding episode of the daytime series drew monster viewership, garnering a national TV rating of 27.2%, according to Kantar Media.

The number was good enough to rank "Be Careful With My Heart" as the second most-watched television program in the Philippines on Friday -- a rare feat for a daytime show.

“We are very thankful that people are so into Sir Chief, Maya and into the wedding. We’d like to thank them for all their support,” he said.

As a treat to the viewers, Sta. Maria said the second post-wedding party of Maya and Sir Chief will be shown on ABS-CBN Sunday’s Best on November 24.

She said viewers should also keep a close watch on how her and Yap’s characters would develop now that there are already married.

In the coming episodes, “Be Careful With My Heart” is expected to show the honeymoon of the couple, which was shot in Japan.

WATCH: Maya and Sir Chief's wedding kisses

The much-awaited wedding of Maya dela Rosa (Jodi Sta. Maria) and Richard “Sir Chief” Lim (Richard Yap) was sealed with not one, but three sweet kisses, as shown on Friday’s episode of the hit ABS-CBN daytime soap “Be Careful with My Heart.”

Maya is now officially a member of the Lim family, where she started out as the nanny of Sir Chief’s youngest daughter.

"My brothers and sisters, I now present to you, Mr. and Mrs. Richard and Maya Lim. Let's give them a big round of applause," said the priest, portrayed by actor John Arcilla.

"And now, are you ready for this? Richard, you may now kiss the bride," he added.

Sir Chief went on to lift Maya's veil and give her a kiss which lasted for a few seconds, drawing loud cheers from their guests.

Maya then laughed and looked at the crowd, which prompted the priest to say, "You may now kiss the bride again."

After another kiss, the priest quipped: "Or shall we say, you may now kiss the groom?"

A visibly happy Maya replied: "Kayo ah, sumosobra na kayo. Sige na nga."

She then kissed her husband one more time.

The fairy tale wedding of Maya and Sir Chief took place at the Basilica de San Martin de Tours in Taal, Batangas.

'Be Careful With My Heart' extended

MANILA, Philippines - Kapamilya actress Jodi Sta. Maria admitted that her life has totally changed because of the hit daytime series "Be Careful With My Heart," where she plays a lead role for the first time.

"Super. Sobrang laking pagbabago talaga," Sta. Maria said in an interview on "Kris TV" hosted by Kris Aquino.

The actress admitted that she and the rest of the show's cast and production team never imagined that "Be Careful With My Heart" will be a huge hit.

"Hindi talaga namin ini-expect kasi noong nagsimula 'yung show, parang experimental lang siya. Ultimo 'yung love team namin ni Papa Chen. So 'yun, pinaniwalaan lang namin talaga 'yung konsepto," she said of her on-screen partner on the series, Richard Yap.

Because of the show's success, "Be Careful With My Heart" has been extended up to February 2013, according to Sta. Maria.

In "Be Careful With My Heart," Sta. Maria plays the role of Maya, a family maid attending to the children of Yap's character, a rich widower.

Wants to be a doctor

While her showbiz dreams are slowly coming true, Sta. Maria said she is still hoping to become a doctor someday.

"Yes, nandoon pa rin siya. Hindi pa rin ako naggi-give up doon sa pangarap ko na 'yon," she said.

"Wala naman sa edad 'yung pag-aaral, hindi ba? Hanggang kaya ko. Hindi ba hanggang may buhay may pag-asa? So nandoon pa rin ako, hindi ko pa din siya binibitiwan."

Aside from her hit daytime soap "Be Careful With My Heart," Sta. Maria is also busy with her restaurant business.
