'Give yourself something to look forward to': 6 tips survive the extended COVID-19 lockdown
MANILA -- Miss travelling or going out to eat? Make a list of things you plan to do with your friends, or even by yourself, after the lockdown ends. That's just one tip from celebrity life coach and author Myke Celis on how to "survive" this extended downtime.
Celis, author of the self-help book "#BestMeEver: Of Positivity and Possibilities," said some people will find it difficult to adjust to this new reality under lockdown due to the coronavirus.
This is because "people tend to be pressured to conform," meaning that they put immense pressure on themselves to be productive during this quarantine period. He argued that "waking up the next day, COVID-free, is an achievement by itself."
"You don't even have to force yourself to do anything because (by being alive) that will be more than enough," he added.
With that in mind, below are his six tips to achieve this inner peace against the stress and anxiety brought up about COVID-19:
1. "First things first: accept the space you're in. Being resentful prevents you from growing where you are. Know that the more you resist, the more chaotic everything seems."
2. "Follow through by setting a very simple goal: to survive. This may include simply waking up healthy, keeping safe in your space and just appreciating what you have."
3. "Next: know that you have everything within to survive. We oftentimes forget that and we depend so much on everything else around us: the news, the donations, what others are doing. How different will it be if we focus on what we can do, in our space, with what we have? That makes it more self sustaining."
4. "Don't let the extended lockdown cause you to break down. Plot a workable routine that will be comfortable for you. Manage your work schedules, watch Netflix in between, exercise, bond with family. What if instead of considering it as a huge separation from the rest of the world, you see the lock down as a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with yourself and all things (and people) which really matter? By plotting your list coming from inspiration, instead of fear and desperation, you are able to defeat boredom and anxiety without going overboard and straining yourself in the process."
5. "Self-care is key. Take longer showers. Wear nice clothes. Update your skin care routine. Shave when needed. Exercise. Read books. Binge watch. Do all the things that will make you appreciate yourself more and the space you're in. Don't ever feel guilty for not subscribing to what others are doing at present. You do you."
6. "Lastly, give yourself something to look forward to: what do you want to do after the lockdown? Make a list. Plot your travels. Check out where you want to eat. What hairstyle do you want to get. What do you want to do? Just do it. And know that you deserve it. By having something to look forward to, you allow yourself to be happier and more inspired as days go by."

Badgley Mischka, Coach take designs to digital world
American fashion house Badgley Mischka and handbag maker Coach took a technology-focused approach as they presented their latest collections on the penultimate day of New York Fashion Week: The Shows.
The luxury brands showcased their work on the closely watched global stage and also on digital platforms. While Badgley Mischka debuted a new app that allowed attendees to rate the looks on the runway, Coach live-streamed its entire show on Instagram.
Though technology was at the forefront of both brands’ Fashion Week moments, the focus remained on the looks.
At design duo Mark Badgley and James Mischka’s Fall 2018 presentation, a red brocade ball gown that harkened back to 17th century art stole the show.
“We were inspired by the painter Caravaggio and his beautiful use of 'chiaroscuro,' the effect of the darkness surrounding the light coming through the center,” James Mischka said. “So it inspired our fabrications, our colors, our prints for the beginning of the season.”
Coach opted for dark, taking its audience into the woods for its Fall 2018 collection, which featured fringe, velvet and leather.
The brand’s parent company Tapestry recently reported quarterly results that surpassed expectations due to strong demand for Coach handbags.
Models sporting the handbags and backpacks made their way down a foliage-covered catwalk in cowboy boots and prairie dresses as celebrities like Selena Gomez, one of the brand’s ambassadors, watched.

Go behind the scenes of Coach's fall 2017 campaign with Selena Gomez
Set in New York City, and reclining in a vintage 1976 Plymouth Fury car, Selena Gomez embodies the romantic rebel, coursing through her own way as the new face of the Coach Fall/Winter 2017 campaign.
The collection is in itself an artistic collaboration between the pop icon, renowned fashion photographer Steven Meisel, and Coach creative director Stuart Vevers.
For Gomez, the Coach brand holds a sentimental value to her, as she recalls her early adoration for the luxury powerhouse.
“Coach was actually one of my first designer purchases,” she says. “Where I’m from in Texas, Coach was the must-have brand. I remember saving up with my cousin, Priscilla, to get matching wallets.”
Needless to say, becoming the lead personality in one’s favorite brand is a dream-come-true, but more so for Gomez, who feels a special connection to Coach.
“Coach made me feel like family from day one,” she remarks. “Having the opportunity to grow creatively by working on a design collaboration and reaching so many girls through the Coach Foundation is important to me; and I love that Coach is supportive.”
The new collection is set to release this Fall/Winter season, and will be available in Rustan’s Shangri-La.

Coach to buy rival handbag maker Kate Spade for $2.4-B
Handbag and accessory maker Coach reached a deal to acquire rival Kate Spade for $2.4 billion, the companies announced.
The agreement will boost the marketing opportunities for both luxury New York-based designers of handbags, shoes and various accessories, the companies said, at a time when sales are declining at department stores where they have sold their goods.
By combining, they expect to save about $50 million a year in inventory management and other operational efficiencies, the companies said a joint press release announcing the deal.
Coach chief executive Victor Luis said the acquisition would boost the firm's prospects with millennials. In December, Coach, which dates to 1941, announced a marketing partnership with actress and singer Selena Gomez, in an effort to woo this key demographic group.
"In addition, we believe Coach's extensive experience in opening and operating specialty retail stores globally, and brand building in international markets, can unlock Kate Spade's largely untapped global growth potential," Luis said.
Kate Spade chief Craig Leavitt said the company, which was launched in the 1990s, now will be positioned "for long-term success as we continue our evolution into a powerful, global, multi-channel lifestyle brand."
Under the transaction, Kate Spade shareholders will receive $18.50 in cash, a 27.5 percent premium on the price prior to media speculation about a takeover of the company.
Shares of Kate Spade rose 8.1 percent to $18.34 in morning trading, while Coach gained 6.4 percent to $45.39.
