Mark Zuckerberg welcomes second daughter in Facebook post
SAN FRANCISCO - Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg and his wife welcomed their second daughter -- August -- to the world on Monday with a post on the leading social network.
As they did with after the birth of their first daughter, Maxima, in late 2015, the couple wrote the girl a letter, but this one spoke of reveling in the wonder of childhood instead of visions of a better world on the horizon.
"You only get to be a child once, so don't spend it worrying too much about the future," said the letter signed by Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan.
"You've got us for that, and we'll do everything we possibly can to make sure the world is a better place for you and all children in your generation."
A Zuckerberg Chan Initiative established by the couple has pledged billions of dollars to improving life for their children's generation with goals such as eliminating disease.
The Facebook co-founder is among billionaires who have vowed to donate most of their wealth to charitable causes.
"With all the advances in science and technology, your generation should live dramatically better lives than ours, and we have a responsibility to do our part to make that happen," the couple wrote, referring back to a letter written to their first daughter after her birth.
"But rather than write about growing up, we want to talk about childhood. The world can be a serious place. That's why it's important to make time to go outside and play."
And, like many parents, they expressed hope their new baby would sleep soundly and take frequent naps.

Zuckerberg explains Facebook's plan to fight fake news
Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has laid out plans on how his company plans to address fake news and information in social media, following criticisms it may have influenced the US election.
"Our goal is to connect people with the stories they find most meaningful, and we know people want accurate information. We've been working on this problem for a long time and we take this responsibility seriously. We've made significant progress, but there is more work to be done," Zuckerberg said in a Facebook post on Saturday.
"We do not want to be arbiters of truth ourselves, but instead rely on our community and trusted third parties."
Some of the projects Zuckerberg outlined are:
STRONGER DETECTION
According to Zuckerberg, this means better technical systems to detect what people will flag as false before they do it themselves.
EASY REPORTING
Making it much easier for people to report stories as fake will help Facebook catch more misinformation faster, the CEO said.
THIRD PARTY VERIFICATION
The company plans to reach out to more fact checking organizations.
WARNINGS
Facebook is exploring labeling stories that have been flagged as false by third parties or their community and showing warnings when people read or share them, Zuckerberg said.
RELATED ARTICLES QUALITY
Zuckerberg said they are raising the bar for stories that appear in related articles under links in the News Feed.
DISRUPTING FAKE NEWS ECONOMICS
As the company announced last week, Zuckerberg said Facebook is looking into disrupting the economics with ads policies and better ad farm detection.
LISTENING
Zuckerberg said they will continue to work with journalists and the news industry for input and to better understand their fact checking systems.

Mark Zuckerberg boasts he can change a nappy in 20 seconds
BERLIN, Germany - Facebook founder and chief Mark Zuckerberg, whose first child was born in November, on Thursday boasted that he could change a nappy in 20 seconds.
"I am competitive guy, I time myself to get and better, and I got down to 20 seconds," the 31-year-old told an audience in Berlin where he was receiving an award from German publisher Axel Springer.
"The trick is to slide the new diaper under the old one," he added.
Zuckerberg's Facebook page, which is "followed" by more than 43 million people, regularly features pictures of him with his wife Priscilla Chan, baby daughter Maxima and pet dog Beast. He has also posted a photo of him changing nappies.
Despite his massive wealth, Zuckerberg -- depicted in the Hollywood drama "The Social Network" as a socially challenged computer geek -- still turns up at the office in a t-shirt, jeans and sneakers, topped off by his trademark hooded sweatshirt.
Touching on his famously dressed-down style he added: "I have colored ones (t-shirts) too but I wear them only the weekend."
As they announced the birth of their daughter in December, Zuckerberg and his wife said they would give away 99 percent of their shares in Facebook -- valued at some $45 billion -- in a philanthropy initiative "to improve the lives of all those coming into this world".

Why Facebook's Zuckerberg created 'thank you' video for wife
MANILA, Philippines - The usually private Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg surprised many on Friday when he posted a video featuring photos of him and his wife Priscilla Chan on the popular social network.
The 1-minute video featured photos of the couple, and accompanied by a short status message from Zuckerberg.
"I met an amazing girl on this day exactly 11 years ago. Priscilla, thank you for keeping me grounded, and for helping me keep my sense of wonder about the world as we grow together," he said.
The sweet but short video turned out to be Zuckerberg's way of promoting Facebook's new video feature called "Say Thanks."
The new video tool allows users to create personalized video cards for their friends, using the photos and posts they have shared on Facebook.
The videos can be shared on one's timeline, as well as the friend's timeline. It also has privacy controls to control who watches the video.
Last year, Facebook created the "Look Back" video for its users last year. The Look Back video features top moments from a user's Facebook profile in the last 10 years. It was a success, with around 200 million users watching their videos.

Zuckerberg to hold Christie fundraiser
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a possible Republican presidential nominee in 2016, is getting a financial boost from Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg announced Thursday he and his wife will host a fundraiser for the governor in February in their home in Palo Alto, Calif., The New York Times reported.
An aide to Christie said the governor and Zuckerberg became friends after meeting in 2010. The same year, Zuckerberg announced a $100 million contribution to the schools in Newark, New Jersey's largest city, making the announcement with Christie and the city's Democratic Mayor Cory Booker at his side.
A spokeswoman for Zuckerberg said he admires Christie's accomplishments in education in New Jersey, including changing the rules on teacher tenure and convincing Newark teachers to accept performance bonuses.
Christie is expected to run for a second term this year. Booker was talked about as a potential Democratic candidate but has decided to run for the Senate in 2014 instead.
The governor's popularity in New Jersey rose after Superstorm Sandy battered the state. But his appearance with President Obama in the wake of the storm and just before the presidential election angered many Republicans.
