Coca-Cola suspends product ads to fund COVID-19 response

MANILA- Coca-Cola Philippines said Friday it would put on hold advertising of its products to use the money for COVID-19 relief efforts.

The beverage giant in a statement said it would re-channel P150 million for the provision of protective equipment for health workers, and delivery of food packs to families most vulnerable to the pandemic.

“Starting today, commercial advertising of Coca-Cola and all our brands in the Philippines will be put on hold. All our committed advertising space and budgets will be redirected towards supporting COVID-19 relief and response efforts for the most affected communities,” it said in a statement.

Coca-Cola said it would also provide beverages to health workers and support for small retailers affected by the economic fallout due to the pandemic.

The Philippines, as of Thursday, had 230 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 18 fatalities, while 8 patients have recovered.

Jollibee allots P1 billion to pay employees during COVID-19 quarantine

MANILA - Jollibee Foods Corp said it set aside P1 billion to continue paying employees during the COVID-19 lockdown in the Philippines most populous island group.

The emergency response fund “covers all work teams of Jollibee Group’s offices, stores, commissaries, and logistics centers, including the senior citizens and PWDs assigned to stores under the joint employment program with local government units.”

Employees will continue to get their full month’s salary, and will receive their 13th month pay by April 30, the country's largest fastfood operator said.

Jollibee said it would extend the same assistance to its partner employers to provide financial support to their employees during the lockdown of Luzon, which will end on April 12.

“In these times we know how people are worrying about their safety and how to take care of their families. We want to lessen their worries and we are setting up this fund to help them through this difficult time,” said Jollibee chairman and founder Tony Tan Caktiong in the statement.

Jollibee earlier said it would donate P100 million worth of food packs from its different brands to healthcare workers and on-ground checkpoint personnel.

Gaming store chain DataBlitz closes all Luzon stores

MANILA -- DataBlitz is the latest company to announce closures in Luzon amid the lockdown on the main island to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus in the Philippines.

On Wednesday, the local gaming store chain said all of its branches in Luzon will be closed until further notice.

Shops in Visayas and Mindanao remain open, except for Cagayan de Oro.

"Our thanks to everyone for your patience and kind understanding as we look forward to being of service to you again soon! Please to take care and keep safe!" it said in a Facebook post.

DataBlitz assured gaming enthusiasts that they can still place their orders via PIxelPlay on Lazada and Shopee.

Those who preordered the game "Animal Crossing," which will be released this Friday, are given two options: pick it up when the community quarantine is lifted and get a P500 gift certificate from DataBlitz for subsequent purchases; or cancel their purchase when the branch where they preordered reopens and get a refund.
