Ashton Kutcher designs tablet for Lenovo

MANILA — Lenovo Philippines has officially launched the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, which was designed by actor Ashton Kutcher, who joined the global tech giant as a product engineer a year ago.

The Kutcher-designed gadget has a superior resolution (2560 x 1440), long-life 9600-mAh battery and built-in Pico projector, making it "the ultimate home entertainment tablet" to add to anyone's wish list. The 8-watt JBL sound system with subwoofer also provides an immersive sound experience.

"Our vision for the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro was to create the best tablet on the market," Kutcher was quoted in an earlier Lenovo statement.

"To do that, we really looked at how people use tablets and what they needed for a better experience. The Yoga Tablet 2 Pro has got the best sound, a dramatically brilliant camera and display, a new mode, a projector and top processor, so I think we created the best tablet available. I can't wait for people to try it," the actor said.

The Yoga Tablet 2 Pro was among the new models of the popular Yoga series launched by the company last Friday at the Bonifacio Global City.

Lenovo also rolled out the Lenovo 50 that aims to give the company a broader reach of the computing market.

“Lenovo’s new Yoga line-up features thin designs and robust processors with four modes for amazing portability and performance when playing and working with digital content. Equipped with unparalleled audio capabilities and long battery life, the new Yoga multi-modes, as well as the new Lenovo Y50 being launched today reflect Lenovo’s commitment to innovation, paving a new way for doers to accomplish more in today’s mobile-focused digital era,” Michael Ngan, country general manager of Lenovo Philippines, said in his welcome remarks during the launch.

According to Samantha Baretto, product manager of Lenovo Philippines, the Yoga Tablet 2 allows users to use the three original modes — hold, tilt and stand ─ as well as a new mode, hang, which is also available on the Kutcher-designed tablet.

The fourth mode allows a user to "hang" the Yoga when viewing the content, allowing a user to allow them to perform their other tasks.

Furthermore, she said the Yoga 2 is more powerful with an Intel Atom processor, Dolby audio and Wolfson Master Hi-Fi. For better listening and photo shooting, it has dual front speakers and an 8 megapixel rear camera.

Meanwhile, Baretto said the new Yoga 3 Pro raises the bar in mobile computing as far as mobility and lightness are concerned. It is thinner by 17 percent as compared to the Yoga 2 Pro, 14 percent slimmer than its predecessor at just 12.8 mm and it weighs 1.19 kg. With a new watchband hinge made from 800 pieces of steel and aluminum, the Yoga 3 Pro is as flexible as a metallic watch band, with six focus points instead of two.

Complementing the distinctive new hinge design, the Yoga 3 Pro is available in two eye-catching colors: Platinum Silver or Champagne Gold.

Laptop for gamers

For his part, Lenovo 4P manager of consumer PCs Vinson Chua said gamers will enjoy the Lenovo Y50 laptop for its advanced technology, which includes an optional backlit keyboard, and NVIDIA GeForce, for enhanced graphics.

Powered by an up to 4th generation Intel Core i7 processor, Windows 8.1, and HDD, users can easily multitask among activities such as watching videos, opening apps, posting to social media and browsing photos.

Chua also noted that the powerful combination of JBL speakers and Dolby Home Theatre v4 helps to redefine the multimedia experience with its crisp and resonant sound.

The Yoga Tablet 2 Androids will be priced at P13,999 (wifi) and P19,999 (LTE wifi) for the eight-in and 10-in variants respectively, while SRPs for the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro and Yoga 3 Pro are at P33,999 and P76,995 respectively. The new Yoga multi-modes will all be available within the month.
