Valte: 'Bourne Legacy' to help tourism efforts

MANILA, Philippines – MalacaƱang believes the upcoming showing of the Hollywood film “The Bourne Legacy” will help the Department of Tourism promote the country internationally.

In an interview with radio dzRB on Sunday, Deputy Presidential Spokesperson Abigail Valte said the government is hoping the movie will attract more tourists as it begins to hit the theaters worldwide in August.

“The showing of ‘Bourne Legacy’ will only be a small part of what our fellow workers in the Department of Tourism are doing,” she said.

Valte, however, said she is not sure whether President Benigno Aquino III would watch the premiere of “The Bourne Legacy” on August 5.

“Normally wala na po kasing pagkakataon ang Pangulo na manood po ng mga premiere at ng mga sine,” she said.

Valte said she will first check with Aquino if he has any intentions of watching the first screening of the movie.

Two weeks ago, Metro Manila Development Authority chairman Francis Tolentino said the Philippines will be the first country in Asia to screen the much-awaited action film.

The movie will be shown in the US on August 10.

"We will be screening the movie ahead of the US release. 'The Bourne Legacy' will be shown on August 5, 7 pm in Resorts World Manila. This will be the first premiere, the Asian premiere of 'The Bourne Legacy,'" he told radio dzMM.

The film, the fourth in the 'Bourne' franchise, stars Renner, Weisz and Edward Norton. Parts of the movie were shot in Metro Manila and Palawan from January to February this year.

A trailer of the movie earlier showed scenes shot in the Philippines.

The trailer shows a nerve-gripping motorbike chase scene shot in a busy Manila road, complete with crashing jeepneys and taxis.

The film also shows agent Aaaron Cross (Renner) in hand-to-hand combat with Filipino police and security guards.
