Swimming safety limit set for Boracay tourists

MANILA, Philippines – The lifeguard center of Boracay Island has implemented a safety limit for tourists swimming in the beach due to strong waves caused by inclement weather.

Authorities said tourists will not be allowed to swim farther than 15 meters from the shore.

Rescuers of the lifeguard center advise beachgoers not to swim towards the deep end of the sea during bad weather conditions.

They said 3 people drowned last week during the onslaught of the southwest monsoon.

This week, the rescuers said 12 people were rescued.

The island currently has 20 lifeguards monitoring the beach, apart from the lifeguards employed by various resorts in Boracay. -- Report from Kenneth Ladigohon, ABS-CBN News Iloilo
