MANILA, Philippines – Actor John Lloyd Cruz explained why he thinks he and his onscreen partner for 10 years, actress Bea Alonzo, never had a romantic relationship.
In an interview with Korina Sanchez on her dzMM show on Tuesday, Cruz said it was probably because they were too young when they started as a love team.
Cruz said they both decided to focus on their respective careers, not letting anything hinder their dreams of making it big in show business.
“Siguro alam namin ang priorities namin. Nangyari siya sa maagang panahon para sa amin. 'Yung mga early years nung 10 taon, napaka-crucial noon para sa aming karera pareho. So siguro ang nangyari, we prioritized our careers kesa haluan ng personal,” he explained.
Cruz said he is thankful that it went that way for him and Alonzo because they would not probably last for 10 years if they got into a relationship.
“Actually ipinagpapasalamat ko 'yun dahil siguro kung nabago 'yung past or history namin ni Bea, baka hindi kami umabot sa ganito,” he said.
According to Cruz, it was probably just not meant to happen.
“Puwede kasi akong magbigay ng napakaraming paliwanag pero maaaring ang totoo lang talaga, it just didn’t happen for us. Kasi kung nandoon naman 'yun, sabi nga nila kahit harangan ng sibat, kung gusto mo talaga at kung dapat mangyari, [mangyayari],” he said.
As part of the anniversary of their team-up, Cruz and Alonzo are starring in the Star Cinema movie “The Mistress,” which will be shown in theaters nationwide starting Wednesday, September 12.
