Nissan recalls 727,000 cars due to fault in doors

TOKYO - Nissan Motor Co. will recall 727,012 cars due to faulty paint work on the rear door of several hatchback models, the transport ministry said Thursday.

Subject to recall will be the Serena and 11 other models produced between April 2009 and March 2016, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism said.

Painting defects on the metallic rods that prop up the hatchback door when opened could result in corrosion. Five cases of defects were reported from June 2015 to March 2016, though nobody was injured in the cases, it said.

Meanwhile, Mitsubishi Motors Corp. will recall 124,419 cars, covering the Pajero Mini and five other models, produced between August 2002 and December 2013.

A programming glitch in the turbocharged engine could result in leakage of exhaust gas and a fault in the cooling system could lead to engine failure, the ministry said.

In total, 273 cases of defects have been reported since July 2011 through January this year.
