Twitter bans 'revenge porn'

Twitter has become the latest online platform to ban "revenge porn," or the posting of sexually explicit images of a person without consent.

In updated terms of service released Wednesday, Twitter explicitly banned "intimate photos or videos that were taken or distributed without the subject's consent."

The update comes following Reddit's announcement last month of a similar ban, which came after the online bulletin board was criticized for allowing the distribution of hacked nude pictures of Hollywood stars.

Twitter stepped up online safety efforts last month, moving to crack down on impersonation as well as the leaking of personal, private data.

The new rule was praised by Cyber Civil Rights Initiative director Mary Anne Franks, who tweeted "@twitter's new policy against #revengeporn is good for #privacy (bad for misogynists)."

California in 2013 passed a law which specifically bars revenge porn postings.

Although legislation already existed against posting unauthorized pictures of other people which invade their privacy, the new California law covers pictures that were taken with consent, for example when a couple was together, but which are later posted online without the ex-partner's agreement.

Popular Myths about the California Lemon Law – Part 2

The legal process can be looked upon with a great deal of fear and loathing amongst the general public. If you are the victim of a dishonest car dealer, you may not know that the California Lemon Law has been designed to help the motoring community to get what they paid for. That’s only fair. So in hopes of helping you to dispel the clouds around the Lemon Laws, here is part two of our look at the sour fruits of automotive lemons.

• Myth – Lemon Laws are the same for all 50 states.

While many states’ Lemon Laws are very similar, there can be subtle or even wide differences in their terms and applications. Don’t assume that the Lemon Laws in your state are identical to those in California or any other state. It’s easy to check and compare them online. Simply type in Lemon Laws and the name of your state to make sure that you know your true rights.

• Myth – The Lemon Law does not cover a vehicle that has been leased.

Not true. Leased vehicles enjoy the full protection of the California Lemon Law.

• Myth – A Lemon Law claim must be filed within the first six months of vehicle ownership.

False, car owners have eighteen months to submit notification to the parties involved of a Lemon Law claim. That fact notwithstanding, time is of the essence. So be sure to file your Lemon Law claim as soon as practicable.

• Myth – Lemon Law prerequisites are simple for the average consumer to determine.

Wrong, the legal technicalities of the Lemon Law demand the services of a lawyer trained in that area.

• Myth – Lemon Law Attorneys require full payment should your Lemon Law case be decided in favor of the car dealer.

Hovanes Margarian is a California Lemon Law attorney who works strictly on a contingency basis. He is ready to help you to get full refund.

The preceding must not be construed as legal advice specific to any circumstance. It is offered solely for the introductory edification of consumers about the California Lemon Law.

California gay marriage ban set for Supreme Court

LOS ANGELES - A US appeals court upheld Tuesday its decision to strike down a California law banning gay marriage in the state, in the latest step in the dispute's expected path to the Supreme Court.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in February that an amendment to the California state constitution banning same-sex marriage violated principles of due process and equal protection under the law.

Supporters of a ban had asked the San Francisco-based federal court to re-hear the case "en banc" -- with 11 judges, as opposed to the three-judge panel which ruled in February.

But Tuesday's seven-page ruling concluded: "The petition for rehearing en banc is denied."

Gay marriage was briefly authorized in California in 2008, but later banned by a referendum on what was known as Proposition 8. It rewrote the state's constitution to restrict marriage to unions between a man and a woman.

In February, the three-judge appeals panel in San Francisco ruled by 2-1 that a lower court had properly declared the ban a violation of the US Constitution.

"Proposition 8 serves no purpose, and has no effect, other than to lessen the status and human dignity of gays and lesbians in California," the ruling said. "The constitution simply does not allow for laws of this sort."

The February judgment was slammed by Republican presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, who said "unelected judges (had) cast aside the will of the people of California who voted to protect traditional marriage."

But California Attorney General Kamala Harris called the decision "a victory for fairness, a victory for equality and a victory for justice."

The decision did not give gay and lesbian couples the immediate right to wed, as the ban remains in force until the US Supreme Court rules on a likely final appeal.

Kim Kardashian Divorce Kris Humphries Comes Up Goose Eggs

Kim Kardashian will not pay Kris Humphries a red cent in their divorce ... TMZ has learned.

As we first reported, Kim and Kris have a prenup -- which Kim felt was "the smart thing to do."

Sources familiar with the prenup tell TMZ ... the document keeps ALL assets separate, and with such a short marriage neither walks away with money from the other -- not a single penny.

Now that leaves just one piece of business on the table -- Kim's $2 million engagement ring. Sorry Kris, but you lose on 2 counts:

1. Under California law, once you said "I do," you lost any rights to the ring
2. You didn't pay for the ring, stupid

But it's not horrible news for Kris, because he made $3.2 million from the Nets last season. Oh right, there's a lockout. Well maybe he saved ...

As for Kim, last year the family empire raked in $65 million.
