Easy feng shui tips to attract prosperity in 2017
MANILA – This New Year’s Eve, make sure to do these things at home to invite prosperity and wealth in 2017, a feng shui expert said.
In his book “Feng Shui 2017” under ABS-CBN Publishing, Hanz Cua gave easy tips on how to attract good fortune and rid the home of negative energy.
These include opening all windows and doors at home at exactly 12 midnight on January 1, making loud noises using pots, pans and fireworks and sharing a meal with the family, among others.
Here are excerpts from his book:
Although not all Filipinos believe in feng shui, many of them prefer to be on the safe side by adhering to its principles, buying trinkets and other “lucky” items for themselves and their homes.
Others, meanwhile, opt to respect the ancient Chinese system the same way that believers do not criticize their Catholic faith.

'Lucky' animal signs, businesses for 2017
MANILA – Three animal signs will be particularly “lucky” in 2017, according to a feng shui expert.
In an interview on the radio DZMM show “Sakto” on Thursday, Johnson Chua said people under the Rat, Ox and Dragon signs will have good luck next year.
“Rat, Ox at Dragon ang pinakamaswerte ngayong 2017,” he said.
When asked about the business that will do well in the coming Year of the Fire Rooster, Chua mentioned the food industry as well as media companies.
As for “lucky” colors, Chua said fashionistas who are feng shui believers can rest assured that they can wear whatever they want next year.
While yellow, red and blue are said to bring in a lot of positive energy, all other colors are generally “lucky.”
“Pwede po nating sabihin na wala talagang malas na kulay kasi ang 2017, lahat ng five elements nagpakita. So wala talagang masamang kulay,” he explained.
To those whose animal signs are not so fortunate in 2017, Chua advised them to wear crystals to ward off negative energy, particularly mental stress.
“Pinaka the best na pangontra sa health problem ay crystals dahil meron silang healing factor,” he said.
Meanwhile, Chua reminded that public that feng shui predictions should only be used as a guide in making decisions.
“It’s not feng shui that will decide what will happen to your life. It’s you. So kung baga, we use feng shui as a guide, pero nasa kamay natin ang kapalaran natin,” he said. “Alamin mo kung saang part ka swerte, kung saan ka medyo malas.”

Feng shui tips to make your wedding 'lucky'
MANILA – Are you getting married this year? A feng shui expert suggests ways to enhance your luck on your big day.
Citing feng shui principles, Hanz Cua said details such as the venue of the wedding ceremony and reception could bring either positive or negative energy to the couple.
He advised couples to choose a venue with large windows to allow for light to enter, saying that more light signifies a brighter future.
The bride, he said, should consider wearing a gown in a color such as off-white, ivory, pale gold or pink instead of the usual pure white as this is associated with funerals in Chinese tradition.
In an instance when the bride needs to have “something borrowed,” she should get it from someone who has a happy and stable marriage, Cua said. This is to ensure that the couple will only get positive energy for their union.
Cua said it is also best for couples to make their exit from their wedding in a black car than a white one. He noted that black represents continuity, adding that the color will repel negative energy.
To those who want to take it a step further, Cua said wedding dates ending in 8 or 9 are considered auspicious in feng shui tradition. The number 8 shows eternity, while the number 9 stands for things that are whole and absolute. Dates with two numbers that add up to 8 or 9 are also considered lucky, he added.
While a lot of Filipinos do not believe in feng shui, many of them prefer to be on the safe side by adhering to its principles, buying trinkets and other “lucky” items for themselves and their homes.
Others, meanwhile, opt to respect the ancient Chinese system the same way that believers do not criticize their Catholic faith.

Want to stay lucky on ghost month? Wear red panties
MANILA – Wearing red underwear may ward off spirits during the so-called ghost month, a feng shui expert said.
The ghost month is the seventh month of the lunar calendar and it will start on August 14 and go on until September 12 this year. The "ghost day" will fall on August 28.
During this period, spirits or "ghosts" of the dead are believed to descend and roam around the world of the living. The Chinese, who have a strong belief in the after-life, try to pacify these ghosts to prevent bad luck.
In an interview with psychic Stargazer on DZMM, feng shui practitioner Maxima Tiu said that aside from wearing amulets, one can also wear red underwear to deflect negative energy.
“Lagi tayong magsusuot ng red panty lalo na August para 'yung mga bad vibes hindi lumalapit sa atin. Don’t be afraid na it’s a ghost month,” she said.
Tiu also showed Stargazer several other charms that one may use as a personal accessory or display in their houses or offices which will supposedly absorb bad energy.
For Chinese people, the ghost month is commonly believed to bring more accidents and bad luck compared with other months of the year.
Nonetheless, Stargazer and Tiu emphasized that the amulets and charms are just a guide. Stargazer also advised listeners to always hold on to their faith when dealing with spirits and other entities.
“Ang inyo pong natunghayan ay pawang mga gabay lamang po. Tayo rin ang gumagawa ng kanya-kanyang kapalaran at ang pananalig sa Poong Maykapal ang higit na makatutulong tungo sa masaya at positibong pananaw sa buhay,” Stargazer said.
“Kahit ano po ang isuot niyo, kahit ano po ang hawak niyo, kapag kayo ay negatibo at grumpy lagi, wala rin pong effect 'yan kasi lagi kayong galit. Talagang kailangan natin maging positibo,” she added.

12 tips on how to stay lucky during 'ghost month'
MANILA -- A feng shui expert shared some tips on how to avoid negativity in August, which the Chinese traditionally consider the "ghost month."
Feng shui practitioner Dr. Anthony Fugoso, in an interview on "Pinoy Vibes" on DZMM, said the ghost month this year will start on August 14 and go on until September 12. The "ghost day" will fall on August 28.
The Chinese usually offer food and water for the spirits during the ghost month.
According to Fugoso, the ghost month is commonly believed to bring more accidents and bad luck compared to the other months of the year.
"Tumataas 'yung yin energy. Kapag mataas 'yung yin energy, maraming aksidente, maraming nagkakasakit, maraming namamataty, maraming nagsasarang opisina," he explained.
The spirits who roam the world of the living all throughout ghost month can also play with human beings. Fugoso, however, clarified that the ghost month can also bring in some luck.
What to do
Here are some activities one should avoid to stay lucky and safe throughout the ghost month.
1. Avoid swimming
According to Fugoso, spirits tend to get attracted to water. "Ang spirit, they are thirsty e. Nauuhaw sila. They are attracted to water kaya mas maraming espiritu sa matubig na lugar," he said.
If swimming cannot be avoided, one should leave the beach or the swimming pool before sunset.
2. Avoid new activities or dangerous sports
"Kung hindi mo naman ginagawang talagang umakyat ng bundok, 'wag mo nang gawin, 'wag na 'yung first time, natapat pa sa ghost month. Kung hindi tradisyon, 'wag mo na subukan," Fugoso warned.
3. Avoid talking about spirits and ghosts
According to Fugoso, one should show respect towards spirits instead of showing off bravery and strength. "Parang hinahamon pa natin sila na 'Ako gusto ko makakita.' Huwag na tayo umasta ng ganun," he said.
4. Avoid getting married
Since spirits roam the world of the living, they might interfere with occasions like weddings. "Baka unexpected guest mo sila sa iyong wedding. [Baka] i-curse ka nila, bigyan ka nila ng sumpa," he warned.
If a wedding has already been set, hold the celebration between morning until noon.
5. Be careful when driving
Drivers, especially women, should bring a companion with them when driving.
6. Avoid repairs and construction
House repairs and construction should be started before the ghost month, as spirits get attracted to noise.
7. Avoid starting a business or signing a contract
Businesses and agreements signed or reached during ghost month tend to face challenges.
8. Watch over children carefully
"Pilitin natin sila umuwi bago magtakipsilim. Kasi mahina pa 'yung mga enerhiya nila e. Hindi pa sila matured. Madali silang mapaglaruan," Fugoso said.
9. Postpone any surgery or medical procedure
According to Fugoso, those who undergo a medical procedure during ghost month tend to recover longer.
10. Avoid killing insects
There is a belief that insects are reincarnation of spirits.
11. Avoid emotional instability
Fugoso advised those with emotional problems to stay strong during ghost month. "Ipasa-Disyos lahat 'yan para hindi tayo maapektuhan dahil eventually, baka makain ka 'nung pagkahina mo, masakop ka, mapaglaruan ka," he said.
12. Avoid air or sea travel
"Maraming conflict. [Halimbawa], nakatulog ka sa airport o may dumating na bagyo kaya hindi ka nakaalis. Delays lang, hindi naman necessarily na death," he clarified.
To prevent spirits from going to your house, Fugoso advised putting enough lights or salt in both the house's front and back doors. He also advised displaying the images of Kuan Kung and Chung Kwei inside the house.

What to wear with your green Lumia
MANILA - "Wearing green, painting the office color green, using green
bags or using green color elements would enhance money and wealth luck
to you."
This is the forecast of popular feng shui expert Hanz Cua for the coming Year of the Sheep, which starts on February 19.
With that in mind, Microsoft Philippines has tapped one of the country's top professional make-up artists, Jake Galvez, to come up with a stylish look to match the lucky color.
"Green is a very versatile color that can be used as a great eyeshadow for day or night. It is also perfect for Filipina skin and best with brown or hazel eyes," said Galvez.
"Green as a makeup color is very modern, unique. It's also perfect for color combinations of eyeshadow shades. If you're wearing a green dress or something green, it is best to wear makeup that compliments your dress. You can use something warm on the eyes like taupe or something shimmery like gold or bronze," he added.
The company also asked actress Yana Asistio for tips on what to wear in combination with her green Lumia smartphone.
According to young actress, another way to incorporate the lucky green in your looks is with your outfits and accessories.
"Green is one of my favorite colors. I usually wear green if I want to catch the attention of people," said Asistio. "But since I can’t always wear green I can now bring other green items with me for luck."
Microsoft's Lumia line of smartphones, which are available in green, is available in the Philippines.

Kris wants to play mom to KathNiel, Kim Chiu
MANILA -- Actress-host Kris Aquino is open to do a drama movie if she will be given a mother role.
"Tinanong ako ni Tita Malou Santos nung Friday, 'Kris, do you want to do a drama next year?' Sabi ko 'Tita Malou at my core I am a mother,'" she said during the press conference of her horror film "Feng Shui," which is an official entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.
"So kung 'yung role is to be the mom of KathNiel (Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla), to be the mom of Enrique (Gil) or to be the mom of Kim Chiu, I would love to do it. Pero kung ilalayo mo ako sa kung ano ako talaga at my core, I don't think I would be effective," added Aquino, who is turning 44 next February.
Aquino has been very vocal about how she's a proud stage mom to son, James "Bimby" Yap Jr., who has finished his second movie "The Amazing Praybeyt Bejamin" with Vice Ganda.
"Totooo talaga umaamin ako na stage mother ako. Sa shooting days niya, tatlo lang ang na-miss kong araw because those days nagshu-shoot ako at today nandito ako. As much as possible inaayos nila ang schedule na I could be there. So yes, I'm really am a stage mother and yes nakialam talaga ako," Aquino said.
Can't ask for more
Meanwhile, Aquino, who is often described as having everything in life, admitted that she can't ask for more -- including her love life.
"Hindi naman pwedeng maibigay ang lahat sa iyo ng sabay-sabay. So alam niyo naman lahat kung ano ang kulay sa buhay ko." Obvious naman, hindi ko naman kailangang ipagsigawan 'yan ngayon," she said, referring to her string of romantic disappointments.
Aquino was last linked to Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista but that romance proved to be short-lived.
"Pero kung hindi talaga panahon ngayon siguro darating 'yung time na hindi na ganito 'yung trabaho ko baka pwede na doon na ang panahon ng pag-ibig," she added.
Pressed if she found a new love, Aquino replied: "Wala. Nagshu-shooting pa ako tapusin ko muna siya. Wala akong sini-set aside, sinasabi ko lang siguro kapag hindi ko na kailangang mag-press conference."

'Lucky' ways to eat on Chinese New Year
MANILA – For most Filipinos, leaving the last piece of food on a serving plate is an act of courtesy. For the Chinese, however, it is a way to attract money and good luck.
Paul Kwok, president of Modern Shanghai restaurant, said they intentionally leave a piece of fish on the plate during Chinese New Year to boost the chances of having more savings in the coming months.
“It means you’ll have savings for the year,” explained Kwok, who recently flew in from Hong Kong to meet members of the media and bloggers at Modern Shanghai. “You shouldn’t finish the fish.”
Dimsum baskets and appetizer trays are also a hit during the Chinese New Year, Kwok noted, saying that these are comparable to treasure boxes.
Modern Shanghai has its own version of the “lucky” offering, serving a plate with the soupy xiao long bao dumplings, sio mai, hakaw and pork buns.
They also have an appetizer platter with Chinese staples such as jellyfish and drunken chicken.
“When it’s Chinese New Year, you’ll see that Chinese houses have a treasure box with all these things. You eat them and you pass the box around,” he said.
Another way to attract good fortune on Chinese New Year is serving pork knuckles, which symbolize longevity and positive energy.
A Filipino version of the traditional Chinese dish is the pata tim, which is usually cooked in a blend of soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar and cornstarch.
For vegetables, one cannot go wrong with the use of iceberg lettuce, Kwok said. This can be served as is, or can be used to wrap different meat fillings.
While he personally believes in feng shui principles and applies them on Chinese New Year and on his own home, Kwok does not incorporate superstition into his businesses, saying that his main priority is his customers.
“If it’s for my home, I’ll get a feng shui consultant, but not for business. I believe what’s more important is to create a good environment for the customers, creating a comfortable space for them,” he said.
“Because in the end, lucky or not, good food is about using the right ingredients. It’s about the quality of the product,” he added.
Most Filipinos already know that fish is considered “lucky” in Chinese culture, as well as uncut noodles and sticky rice.

Feng shui expert: 2014 not good for new relationships
MANILA -- If 2013 is the "best time to start over," 2014 is the "best time to go with the flow," according to a feng shui expert.
Citing her analysis of feng shui charts, Marites Allen said the Year of the Wood Horse, which will start on January 31, 2014, is not the ideal time to get into a relationship, tie the knot, invest or start a new business.
"This is actually the year in one sentence: going with the flow is key in the Year of the Horse," Allen said in a press conference on Tuesday.
"For relationships, you must do it before the end of the year... Relationships that would start next year are ill-fated. They're doomed. Heartbreaks and breakups are in store for them," she added. "But you can still take risks."
Allen said one can expect quick tempers and an "intense environment" to be common next year, noting the presence of two "aggressive sword stars."
Given these, the feng shui expert encouraged the public to maintain a positive attitude and to always think twice and take a step back before saying or doing anything.
"Expect to be misinterpreted a lot," she said.
'Lucky' signs
Allen went on to share which animal signs are "lucky" during the Year of the Wood Horse.
Aside from those who are born in the Year of the Horse, people under the Sheep and Monkey animal signs are predicted to get the energies of the "white star," which is associate with overall success, she said.
Other "lucky" animal signs include the Rooster, which is seen to have "heaven luck" or good karma, and the Rat, which is said to have more prosperity next year.
On the other hand, Allen said those who are under the Dragon and Snake animal signs may get into more arguments in 2014. People born in the Year of the Rabbit are more likely to suffer from illness; the Tiger and Ox may tend to be more violent; and the Dog and Boar may experience misfortune.
Allen stressed, however, that a person's luck does not only lie on his or her animal sign, citing human action and the environment.
"Pwede kasing lucky ang sign mo, pero puro nega (negative) ang mga tao sa paligid mo," she said, adding that these could be countered by certain feng shui-inspired charms.

What to expect in Year of the Snake
MANILA, Philippines -- Feng shui master Joseph Chau Kam Shing gave his annual predictions for the upcoming Chinese New Year, which starts next month.
Chau, who has been practicing feng shui for over 30 years, has been personally involved in Mandarin Oriental Manila’s annual celebrations to welcome the new lunar year and other feng shui-related events since 2000.
According to Chau, the Year of the Yin Water Snake is a time of “challenges” and “conflicts.” Couples planning a wedding this year may want to postpone the date to next year.
Lucky colors for the year are gold, silver, white, beige, yellow, brown and red, while the unlucky colors are green, black, grey and blue.
Here are his forecast highlights for the upcoming year:
Snake (1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989, 2001, 2013)
People born in the year of the Snake will suffer inauspicious and difficult periods from time to time throughout the year. However, financially, it is a fortunate year for Snakes; they will have satisfactory stable incomes but never from gambling. Money comes from all sources, but it is easy come and easy go. It is not a good time to develop another new investment or business expansion. They have to watch their expenses to avoid being over budget.
They also have to pay attention to the relationships with their father, partners, friends and brothers or sisters. In doing business, it is important to have contracts in black and white to avoid any conflicts or regrets in the future.
Love affairs are in the flat line. They should not expect too much or they will be disappointed. Lovers should be patient and avoid being over-emotional with each other.
On health, Snakes should pay special attention to road safety, stay away from sharp objects and beware of problems with the liver, heart, high blood pressure and cardiovascular system. They have to watch their diet and do more proper exercise.
Horse (1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990, 2002)
This is a challenging year for Horses. They will face many problems and obstacles within the year. It is important that they do not act rashly and blindly when handling their work or business.
Financially, it is in the flat line and money is easy come and easy go. They should be extremely careful in handling their expenses.
On love affairs, single Horses will have many chances to fall in love with the opposite gender. However, married Horses should be cool-headed and keep away from temptation; they have to be especially cautious in the lunar months of February, March, April, July, October and November.
On health, Horses should not over-indulge in sensual pursuits or their health condition will be badly affected. With the existence of the Sickness Star under the sign, they will easily get sick, so they should pay special attention to their diet and hygiene.
Goat (1919, 1931, 1943, 1955, 1967, 1979, 1991)
This is a good year for Goats and their fortune will see some improvement. That means Goats will have more opportunities in career or business development. It is important that they work hard if they wish to make important breakthroughs in their career since the presence of the two lucky stars shines brightly upon the Goats. Financially, it is lucky for Goats to start a new business and expand or explore their business.
On love affairs, because of the presence of lucky stars, Goats will enjoy good relations with others and romantic sparks with the opposite gender are ignited easily. However, they should not be double-minded; otherwise they will end up isolated or with regrets.
On health, due to the appearance of the unlucky stars within the sign, Goats must pay attention to their diet and hygiene to avoid sickness. It is most important that they exercise more and sleep earlier to avoid exhaustion. Elderly Goats have to pay attention to their blood pressure and back pain. The young generation must pay attention to road safety and watch the health of the eldest member in their family.
Monkey (1920, 1932, 1944, 1956, 1968, 1980, 1992, 2004)
This is a compatible and conflicted year for Monkeys. They have to be careful in handling their business and work cautiously to avoid acting rashly. They must check and read carefully especially when they sign contracts—it is the only way to avoid being cheated by others or falling into a money trap. It is important that they keep in mind that “to be a winner, they have to work patiently and in a persistent way so that they will enjoy the fruitful results at the end.”
Financially, money luck is pretty good. They will surely have good profits in return.
On love affairs, Monkeys will enjoy good relations with others and get along well with friends and clients. They will easily get romantically involved with the opposite gender and romantic sparks are easily ignited. However, married Monkeys should keep away from temptation to avoid extramarital affairs, or they will suffer a separation.
On health, due to the appearance of the unlucky stars under the sign, Monkeys have to pay special attention to their diet to avoid digestive and stomach problems. Married ladies will have the chance to get pregnant, but they should be careful of their diet and pay special attention to their health to avoid miscarriage.
Rooster (1921, 1933, 1945, 1957, 1969, 1981, 1993, 2005)
The Rooster is compatible with the Snake this year. Their fortune will be better than last year and many opportunities are open for them. But they should not look for fast success or take any shortcuts at work. Businessmen should handle their work cautiously and consider their actual economic situation before they act; otherwise they will burden their debts if they make the wrong decisions.
Financially, it is stable and promising. They should consider buying property this year if they are able. It is important that they do not borrow money from others.
Love affairs are not too stable. Single Roosters should not expect too much this year; however, they should not be too disappointed. They will have a very good romantic year in the year of the Horse next year and will be sure to have a chance to get married. Married Roosters should keep away from temptation; otherwise they will face many problems that will affect both their family life and career.
On health, with the presence of the Sickness Star under the sign, they have to pay special attention to their hygiene and diet. Apart from this, they should make sure that they have enough rest and relax more.
Dog (1922, 1934, 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006)
Luck of the Dog is much improved and smoother this year. It is a good year for them to exhibit their talents both at work and business. They should consider exploring their business in overseas markets. It is certain that they will have abundant profits in return, especially if they were born in either the autumn or winter season. Working employees will have the chance to get a promotion or migrate abroad.
Financially, it is smooth and promising. But they have to handle their wealth with extra care so that they will not be easily lost. It is important that that they are not too greedy, otherwise the loss will outweigh the gain.
On love affairs, this is a romantic year for Dogs but they should not over-indulge to prevent serious troubles later on. Single Dogs will have a chance to meet their dream lover and end up getting married.
Because of the influence of the unlucky stars, their health is seriously affected and vulnerable. So, they have to beware of their diet and hygiene. They have to pay attention to their personal safety to avoid accidents. It is important that they avoid any dangerous sports especially in the lunar months of March, July, September and October.

Feng shui expert cites 'luckier' bets in 2013
MANILA, Philippines -- On February 10, the Chinese community will usher in the Lunar New Year and the "Year of the Water Snake."
Feng shui expert Master Joseph Chau said 2013 is a year of “challenges” and “conflicts.” Tensions may also escalate as election day draws near.
But candidates in the May 13 elections who are under the zodiac animal signs dragon, dog, rabbit, monkey, and snake are luckier.
Couples planning a wedding this year may want to postpone the date to next year. Chau said 2013 is a “blind year” because spring will come earlier on February 4 than the Chinese New Year. In the Chinese tradition, this is bad luck for weddings.
But, Chau added, money will be easier to earn this year.
Some good business opportunities are in the tourism sector, hotel and restaurant, transportation and even the stock market.
According to the 2013 feng shui chart, there are areas in the house or office that are luckier, such as the northeast where the wealth star is located, and south, for the prosperity star.
To start the year right, place five kinds of fruits like pineapple, apple, banana and orange at the dining table on the eve of New Year's day.
