Nikki Reed stuns in Pinoy designer's gown at Oscar's party

MANILA – A creation of Filipino fashion designer Francis Libiran has been spotted at the Elton John Oscar's party in Hollywood.

Libiran's fully-embroidered semi-serpentina gown was worn by Hollywood actress Nikki Reed.

Reed attended the Oscar's with husband Vampire Diaries star, Ian Somerhalder.

Reed played the role of vampire Rosalie Hale in the famous movie saga Twilight.

In an interview with Inquirer Preen, Libiran said the "milestone" is not only his to celebrate.

“[My] goal is to bring pride to the Philippines so all the appearances [of my designs] in Hollywood are all for the country,” Libiran was quoted as saying in the report.

The report explained that Libiran had a chance to dress up Hollywood celebrities with their Los Angeles showroom, where stylists pick gowns.

Libiran studied Architecture at the University of Santo Tomas and then pursued a course in Fashion Design at the Fashion Institute of the Philippines.

He has worked with Hollywood supermodel Tyra Banks in the longest-running reality television show "America's Next Top Model British Invasion."

Gwyneth Paltrow posts own take on chicken adobo

MANILA - Hollywood actress Gwyneth Paltrow decided to take on Filipino cuisine, trying out the highly-popular local dish -- the chicken adobo.

In her lifestyle website Goop, Paltrow recently posted the recipe of the dish, matching it with waffles and dipping sauce made from lemon juice, maple syrup, peppers, and soy sauce.

"This is Filipino adobo, not the Spanish version. The vinegar brightens the richness of the fried chicken and helps with digestion," she wrote in her post.

Paltrow kept it simple with her adobo -- letting the chicken simmer in the broth of white vinegar, bay leaves, garlic, sugar, soy sauce, salt, pepper flakes, and peppercorns.

She then dunked the pieces in buttermilk before taking it out to be breaded and fried.

The Oscar-winning actress suggests, however, that one add or lessen the amount of chiles "depending on how much heat you like."

Paltrow started Goop, a weekly digital publication, in 2008 "to share all of life's positives."

She previously featured the local brand Datu Puti, as she attempted to give an Asian flavor to her local vegetable dish by using the Filipino condiment.

"From creating a delicious recipe to finding a perfect dress for spring, Gwyneth began curating the best of lifestyle to help her readers save time, simplify and feel inspired," the website said.

Lucy Liu sorry for 'look a little Filipino' quip

MANILA, Philippines – Hollywood actress Lucy Liu has apologized for her comment about looking Filipino on “The Late Night Show with David Letterman” show last week.


In an interview with Ruben Nepales of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, Liu said she never intended to insult Filipinos.

“I am so sorry that my comment was taken out of context, as I would never insult another group or ethnicity,” she said.

On October 11, the Hollywood actress of Chinese descent appeared on Letterman's show to promote her upcoming series “Elementary.”

She also talked about her regular exercise regimen with Letterman.

Asked if she likes running outdoors or indoors, the Hollywood actress of Chinese descent said: “I run in a machine. It's easier for me. Also if I get really dark, I'll start to look a little Filipino, it wouldn't match. If I start getting darker, you know what I mean? I can get really dark if I’m in the sun too much.”

Liu’s statement drew mixed reactions, especially those on social media.

Some said Liu sounded a bit of a racist with her comment while others believe there is nothing wrong with the actress' statement.
