Kelsey Merritt joins Viva family

MANILA – Kelsey Merritt has finally joined the Viva Artists Agency (VAA) family.

The Filipino-American model made the announcement herself through a social media post on Saturday.

“So happy to share that I’m now represented by @vivaartistsagency in the Philippines,” she wrote in the caption of her Instagram post.

VAA made a similar announcement on its own page as it listed down Merritts achievements at a young age of 23.

Born in Pampanga, Merritt began her career in the Philippines as a commercial model before moving to America to try to make a name for herself.

True enough, she became a pride of the Philippines as she became the first Filipina to join the coveted Victoria’s Secret fashion show in 2018.

A year later, she announced her Sports Illustrated Swimsuit stint.

“Appearing in both Victoria’s Secret and Sports Illustrated is a rare feat for many models from all over the world, and Kelsey has already achieved that in just 2 years after debuting in the international modelling stage,” VAA said.

Before her modelling career, Merritt finished AB Communications at the Ateneo de Manila University.

What keeps Maria Ozawa busy during quarantine

MANILA -- Japanese actress Maria Ozawa is currently in Japan and just like everyone else, she’s also making a lot of self-discoveries while in strict quarantine.

Speaking on the radio show Monster RX 93.1 on Wednesday, Ozawa shared that she flew to Japan mid-April to be with her family and friends in her home country.

But prior to that, she spent a month of lockdown here in the Philippines.

“Actually before the two weeks [of my quarantine] here in Japan, I had a whole month in the Philippines not being able to do anything. That was really hard. Staying home for 24 hours, I never knew it was this hard,” she said.

When asked what kept her busy during those times, Ozawa said: “Cooking every day, drinking at the house. But the alcohol ban was really strict in Paranaque area. Two weeks after the lockdown in the Philippines, we weren’t able to buy any alcohol so that was crazy also.”

Since her boyfriend Jose Sarasola is a chef, Ozawa said she also learned how to cook several Filipino dishes.

“I tried making monggo. It was actually good. I like sinigang, adobo. In Japan, we have a very similar dish to adobo so I try to arrange that. It was good actually. Maybe I’m good at cooking,” she said.

Aside from cooking, Ozawa has also kept her hands full with a lot of do-it-yourself stuff.

“I never thought I could do the sewing, or knitting but when I started making like key holders, I was like maybe this is a different part of myself that I never knew. That was kind of interesting,” she said.

In Japan, Ozawa said she’s spending most of her days working out “because that’s the only thing I can do every day.”

Meanwhile, Ozawa shared that she has yet to see her family who are not with her in Tokyo.

“I’ve been talking with my dad maybe every other day but I haven’t visited them yet. They don’t live in Tokyo so I have to get in the train for an hour or so. I’m still just waiting for everything to die down first because I don’t want to go in a train that’s stuffed. After that, I’ll go visit them,” she said.

Has it been hard for her to be away from her boyfriend, who is living in the Philippines?

“It definitely made me realize that LDR (long distance relationship) couples are something else. It’s really hard. I haven’t done LDR before and I never thought I could do it because it’s too sad right. Now, we are trying to make it work. We video call every day before we sleep. We text each other where we are. Communication is always the key,” she said.

Ozawa said quarantine has already been lifted in Japan but she doesn’t see herself coming back to the Philippines soon because of the global pandemic.

Gigi Hadid confirms baby on way with Zayn Malik

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Supermodel Gigi Hadid on Thursday confirmed she was expecting a baby with former One Direction singer Zayn Malik, saying the couple were both excited and happy.

Hadid, who turned 25 last week, appeared remotely on Jimmy Fallon’s “Tonight Show” on Thursday to give the news following rumors circulating for several days in the celebrity media.

“We wish we could have announced it on our own terms but we are very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes,” said Hadid, according to an advance excerpt of the video.

Hadid and British singer Malik started dating in late 2015 and their on-off romance made them one of the most sought-after celebrity couples. They appeared together in Malik’s romantic “Pillowtalk” music video in 2016 and at the Met Gala in New York but announced in 2018 that they had split up.

They were spotted together again in January in New York.

Hadid on Thursday gave no details on when the baby was due but said the couple were relishing their time in lockdown due to the coronavirus.

“It is a nice silver lining to be able to be home and be together and really experience it (the pregnancy) day by day,” said Hadid.

The child will be the first for both Hadid and Malik.

Pamela Anderson and new husband split after just 12 days

LOS ANGELES - Former "Baywatch" star Pamela Anderson and movie mogul Jon Peters have called it quits just 12 days after tying the knot.

The actress and animal rights activist wed "Batman" producer Peters on January 20 at a ceremony in Malibu reportedly attended by her 2 sons and his 3 daughters and ex-wife.

But there was apparently trouble in paradise as Anderson abruptly flew to her native Canada on Saturday morning, The Hollywood Reporter said, just days after posting a photo of herself and Peters on her Instagram account.

"I have been moved by the warm reception to Jon's and my union," Anderson, 52, said in a statement to US media.

"We would be very grateful for your support as we take some time apart to re-evaluate what we want from life and from one another."

The pair had each been married 4 times prior.

Anderson said in her statement that the wedding had never been formalized and the pair had decided to step back while mulling their next move.

She was previously married to rockers Tommy Lee and Kid Rock. She twice wed professional poker player Rick Salomon.

More recently she dated French soccer star Adil Rami, with whom she lived in France.

Peters, 74, a former hair stylist, rose to Hollywood prominence after a high-profile romance with Barbra Streisand, going on to produce her 1976 version of "A Star Is Born."

He subsequently oversaw the Tim Burton "Batman" films in the 1980s and 1990s, and brought another DC comic books icon back to the screen in 2006's "Superman Returns."

He was co-chairman of Columbia Pictures for a stint in the 1990s.

Peters reportedly first met Anderson at the Playboy Mansion in the 1980s, and proposed to her shortly after.

"There are beautiful girls everywhere. I could have my pick, but -- for 35 years -- I've only wanted Pamela," he told THR when the pair tied the knot in January.

LOOK: Model Chrissy Teigen has swollen lips

Chrissy Teigen has swollen lips.

The 33-year-old Sports Illustrated model feels like her mouth is "about to explode" after she suffered a flare up of the autoimmune condition angioedema -- the swelling of the deeper layers of the skin caused by a build-up of fluid -- which she believes is a result of altitude sickness from flying from Los Angeles to Utah.

Taking to her Twitter account, the brunette beauty uploaded a close-up photograph of her puffy pout and wrote: "very upset and saddened that my own birth state, Utah, has chosen to poison me with terrible altitude sickness.

"did u know angioedema can be triggered from altitude sickness? learn something new every day! my lip about to explode. goodbye world

"It's so big it's shiny and hard like glass (sic)."

Teigen isn't afraid to give her fans a close-up view of her body as just last week she shared a video of her getting Botox in her armpits by Dr. Jason Diamond.

She wrote over a clip of her being injected: "@drjasondiamond is my favorite human. "BOTOXED MY ARMPITS.

"TRULY BEST MOVE I HAVE EVER MADE.

"I can wear silk again without soaking woohoo! (sic)"

In the video, the "Lip Sync Battle" star -- who has Luna, three, and Miles, 14 months, with "All of Me" hitmaker husband John Legend -- shared how painless it was and breathed a sigh of relief as she admitted she was scared.

She said: "That really isn't anything.

"It looked very frightening."

And the doctor told her: "That's it."

Although it was her first time having Botox under her arms, Teigen previously revealed she had her armpit "sucked out" to make her "feel better in dresses."

She shared: "I had an armpit sucked out, which was one of the best things.

"It's a big secret, but I don't care.

"It was nine years ago or so.

"And I had two inches to my armpit. Now it's back though, so now I've gotta pay for [liposuction] again."

However, Teigen admitted that it was "the dumbest" thing she's ever done.

She explained: "It was so easy. It made me feel better in dresses; I felt more confident. It was the dumbest, stupidest thing I've ever done. The dumbest, but I like it, whatever. I have no regrets, honestly."

Former Miss USA Olivia Jordan reveals she was molested, raped

MANILA – Former Miss USA Olivia Jordan took to social media where she revealed that she was molested as a child and was raped as a teenager.

The revelation was part of a lengthy Instagram post, where Jordan aired her opinion about laws concerning abortion.

Jordan said it is through that lens that she views “the new policies that govern what happens to a woman’s body as a direct assault.”

“Decisions were made for my body without my consent. My body and mind have been traumatized in ways I am still recovering from many years later. Maybe it sounds unjust to compare criminalizing abortion to being raped; but to me, it feels the same,” she said.

“I used to get angry when confronted with anti-abortion messaging. I used to want to yell and scream back how I felt. But then we would just have two people screaming,” she added.

Jordan clarified that she is stating her piece not to impose her beliefs on others.

“No one will ever force you to have an abortion. And I ask, if you could pause for one second and realize how insane it is to impose your views on me, to force me or any woman to endure a pregnancy she is not ready for, maybe even one she didn’t consent to in the first place,” she said.

“Maybe you haven’t had the life experience I have had where your body has been controlled too many times without your consent but I have, and I will fight hard to stop any person from enduring the same fate,” she saud,

To end her post, Jordan appealed for others not to support “policies that strip people of their rights and their free choice.”

“Because when men make laws that govern women’s body without their consent, I feel like I am being assaulted all over again. I feel like we are letting the perpetrators win,” she said.

She then hoped “for a better future where we can realize that we can live in harmony even when we don’t agree.”

Meet the Olympian boyfriend of Kelsey Merritt

MANILA – Conor Dwyer, the Olympian boyfriend of model Kelsey Merritt, is currently in the Philippines for the first time.

The multi-awarded swimmer from Team USA was one of the celebrities who walked the runway during the Bench fashion show over the weekend.

In a rare opportunity, Dwyer granted a one-on-one with ABS-CBN Lifestyle where he opened up about his relationship Merritt.

According to Dwyer, he is a self-confessed fan of Merritt, who made waves last year for being the first Filipina to be featured in the coveted Victoria’s Secret fashion show.

“Who wouldn’t be a fan of Kelsey?” he gushed. “We’ve been together almost a year now. I have to say [I like] just how sweet and humble she is as a person. She hasn’t changed a bit. I really appreciate and adore how sweet and kind she is.”

Dwyer said he first met Merritt during a vacation in Costa Rica and the rest was history.

“I walked in and I shook right off the bat, nervous to meet her,” he recalled.

When asked what’s their workout routine together considering they both have sexy bodies, he said: “We do Pilates a lot. She kind of helped introduce me into Pilates. It’s very hard but we like to go to that together.”

“She’s good in the weights room, in Pilates, in yoga but when it comes to running, swimming and biking, she’s more laidback in that,” he added.

But while they are here in the Philippines, workouts may just have to take a backseat for a while since they want to have the best vacation.

“We’ve been saving up for this trip so I’m gonna eat everything that Kels tells me to eat,” he said.

Do they plan to see the beaches too?

“Yes. From Manila, we go to Palawan and then Boracay and then finishing in Siargao. I am a surfer so I think it’s only right that I check it out. Kels and I have been cold for months so we are excited to go to a warm island and her homeland. It’s pretty special,” he said.

Miss International Organization reacts to Kylie Verzosa's sexy video

MANILA – Kylie Verzosa’s sexy video on Instagram has caught the attention of netizens, and even the Miss International Organization.

The video, posted on Verzosa’s Instagram page last August 21, shows the Miss International 2016 titleholder posing in front of a mirror while wearing a bright orange string bikini.

While comments about her video were mixed, the remark made by the Instagram account of the Miss International Organization stood out the most for Verzosa.

“That’s why you are Miss International!” the comment read.

Reacting to this, Verzosa told the entertainment website Pep in an article published Monday: “O di ba, supportive ang Miss International? Thank you so much. I love you, guys.”

The beauty queen-turned-actress proudly shared that she has lost 10 to 15 pounds in the past year, thanks to her workouts.

Verzosa said she would rather not focus on the negative comments – which include indecent proposals – she has been receiving because of her sexy video.

What is important is that she is supported by the people she loves, which includes her boyfriend.

“Proud siya, super supportive. Iyon ang gusto ko sa kanya,” she said.

Model breastfeeds baby on catwalk, stirs debate

MIAMI, United States - An American model has made a splash by breastfeeding her baby daughter on a Miami catwalk -- no small gesture in a country where many women still feel uncomfortable nursing in public.

Walking the runway at a Sports Illustrated swimsuit show on Sunday, Mara Martin stepped out in a sparkling gold bikini while breastfeeding five-month-old Aria, kitted out for the occasion in green swimwear and noise-cancelling headphones.

In an Instagram post a day later, Martin expressed thanks for the overwhelmingly positive public response -- which far outweighed the smattering of posts on her social media feed criticizing the move as "not appropriate" or even "gross."

"I can't believe I am waking up to headlines with me and my daughter in them for doing something I do every day," she wrote. "It is truly so humbling and unreal to say the least."

"I'm so grateful to be able to share this message and hopefully normalize breastfeeding and also show others that women CAN DO IT ALL!"

According to Martin and organizers interviewed Tuesday on NBC's "Today," it was a spontaneous decision to breastfeed Aria on the runway.

"She was getting a little hungry and it was her dinner time, because the show kept getting pushed back," Martin told "Today."

So when one of the team suggested she go ahead and nurse her on the runway, she said yes.

The debate over public breastfeeding regularly resurfaces in the United States, where women are strongly encouraged to nurse their babies, even though many return to work within weeks of giving birth.

While all but a handful of US states give legal protection to mothers who breastfeed in public, much of society remains squeamish about the practice.

Cases of women being asked to cover up while feeding babies in restaurants, in stores or on public transport sporadically make headlines in the country -- with "nurse-ins" held in protest to demand wider acceptance of the practice.

In the latest breastfeeding-related controversy, President Donald Trump weighed in this month to defend women's "access" to formula milk, after the United States was accused of seeking to torpedo a World Health Organization resolution promoting breastfeeding.

The WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding until the age of six months, and partial breastfeeding for two years or more.

Model Janice Dickinson tells jury that Cosby drugged, raped her

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (Reuters) - Former supermodel Janice Dickinson testified on Thursday that Bill Cosby drugged and raped her at a Lake Tahoe home in 1982, a story similar to those of other alleged victims called as witnesses in the comedian’s sexual assault retrial.

“I wanted to hit him, wanted to punch him in the face,” said Dickinson, a highly successful model in the 1970s and 1980s. “I felt anger, was humiliated, disgusted, ashamed.”

Cosby, who played the loveable patriarch and “America’s Dad” on “The Cosby Show,” is on trial in Pennsylvania for a second time on accusations of drugging and sexually assaulting former friend and colleague Andrea Constand, 45, in 2004.

In all some 50 women have accused Cosby of molestation going back decades. All but Constand’s case were too old to be prosecuted, and Cosby’s first trial ended in a mistrial last June due to a deadlocked jury.

Cosby is accused of giving pills to college administrator Constand and assaulting her at his home near Philadelphia.

Cosby has denied the charge of aggravated indecent assault of Constand, saying any sexual contact was consensual. His lawyers have portrayed Constand as a gold-digging con artist.

Dickinson is the fourth of five accusers permitted by Montgomery County Judge Steven O’Neill to tell their stories to the jury in the suburban Philadelphia courtroom.

Describing a scenario similar to three previous accusers, Dickinson said Cosby contacted her and offered career help.

He flew her to Lake Tahoe, Nevada, where she met Cosby and his musical director for dinner and complained of menstrual cramps. “I have something for that,” Cosby said, according to her testimony.

She testified that he gave her a little blue pill, which she swallowed. Cosby then took her back to his room, where Dickinson, 27 at the time, shot several pictures of him with her Polaroid camera that were projected in court.

“I was really light-headed,” she said. “When I spoke, it didn’t sound like words were coming out. We weren’t discussing my career. He was on the phone.”

She testified that when he finished his call, he climbed on top of her.

“I remember his breath, the taste of his kiss, cigars and espresso. Here was ‘America’s Dad’ on top of me, a happily married man with five kids, and how very, very wrong it was,” Dickinson said.

She found semen between her legs the next day, she said. Confronting Cosby later that day, she demanded to know why he did it. His response was silence and a facial expression that conveyed, “You’re crazy,” she testified.

Dickinson said she did not report the assault to police out of fear it would destroy her career. She said she had long struggled to make it as a model and finally had premiere clients such as cosmetics titan Revlon Inc “who would not have appreciated it if I had been raped and gone to the police.”

Defense lawyer Thomas Mesereau began his cross-examination by focusing on a book ostensibly authored by Dickinson but actually ghost-written by Pablo Fenjves, who also penned O.J. Simpson’s book, “If I Did It.”

Dickinson said she wanted the book’s sections about her rape to be complete and honest and gave that information to Fenjves but its use was overruled by publisher Judith Regan.

VIRAL: Boyfriend-for-rent this Chinese New Year

MANILA – Have you always dreamt of having a date with “Meteor Garden's” Dao Ming Si or your favorite K-Drama male lead crush?

No need to wait for Valentine's Day when you can have a "boyfriend" this Chinese New Year.

Twenty-year old Agassi Ching has gone viral on social media after posting an advertisement of himself, ready to date whoever will "rent" him for P600 for the entire Chinese New Year.

On his Facebook post with now more than 10,000 shares as of writing, his bio says he is 5'8” tall, visibly Filipino-Chinese, "guwapo according to (his) parents," and with abs.

However, he also included a list of things his date should not expect from him, which includes speaking fluent Mandarin, make his eyes bigger, defend his date from flying cockroaches, and defer from taking an angbao, or a Chinese red envelope with money for good luck.

Good news: He is single.

Bad news: It was a prank post.

But the disclaimer on his now viral post did not stop thousands of potential dates from flooding his inbox starting this Wednesday night, when he posted the "ad."

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Ching said he was overwhelmed by the number of response he got from the "entertaining" post.

"I've been getting a lot of responses from various people. It even reached Malaysia, Dubai, different countries," he shared.

The model and artist wannabe gained thousands of followers on his Facebook page, which now reached 19,000 from Wednesday's 7,400. About two thousand followers were also added in his Instagram account.

Despite the post being a jest he did to make his friends laugh, he appreciates the reactions he gained online.

Ching also believes that he will be lucky this year according to feng shui, which might also be the case for his love life.

"Right now, hindi ako nag-iisip sa relationship kasi focus ako sa career and business. But if I will be in a relationship this year, it will probably be a good thing. I'm gonna treat it as a blessing."

Fil-Am transgender to co-host new show on USA Network

NEW YORK - Geena Rocero's platform for social activism just got bigger. The Filipina model, producer and transgender rights activist is one of the hosts and correspondents for a new TV show on the USA Network.

"Aspireist" is a 30-minute feature news program designed for 21st century viewers, the millennials.

"Aspireist" tells inspirational stories not only to inform but to empower its viewers to do something about issues that matter to them.

"What's important on this show is after we do the reporting, deep reporting, is that there is a call to action," said Rocero.

"Aspireist" is created by Emmy award-winning producers including Solly Granatstein of "60 Minutes."

"I think there is a different way to present the news to the millennials," said Granatstein. "I don't think they're looking for this 'objective,' voice of God, kind of standard, anchor-driven news. I think they're looking for something more experiential, more interactive, they can get involve with that has more an activist bent to it."

The hosts are not traditional news anchors. They are 20- and 30-something personalities who are themselves inspiring and passionate activists, environmentalists, social entrepreneurs and educators.

And they all have one thing in common: they all have appeared in Ted Talks.

The hosts also get to share their views on issues at the end of each story.

"Geena, from the very moment that we met her, we were absolutely charmed by her," said Granatstein. "She has such an incredible charisma and it's really grounded being a very real person."

Meantime, Rocero's "Beautiful As I Want To Be" show on Logo TV is receiving the 2016 GLAAD media award in Los Angeles on April 2nd.

Producers hope that this new show "Aspiriest" will help promote their vision for a humane and inclusive future.

Georgina Wilson mum after manager drops her as talent

MANILA – Model Georgina Wilson chose to keep mum following reports that she was dropped from manager Shirley Kuan's roster of talents.

Over the weekend, entertainment site Pep reported that Kuan has decided to drop the model as one of her talents after Samsung, a brand which Wilson endorses, went straight to the TV host instead of her to close a deal.

In an interview with reporters on Sunday, Wilson said she would rather not comment on the matter, saying, “I’ll have my lawyer comment on that.”

She only said that she and Kuan have already talked about what happened.

“I did [talk to her] yes, yesterday,” she said.

In the said Pep report which was published Saturday, Kuan was quoted as saying that she will file charges against Wilson and Samsung.

“Samsung is run by unprofessional executives. Their agent called my office for Georgina and we gave them the rate. Then Samsung went straight to Georgina and closed the deal. No wonder I did not hear back from their agent after we gave the rates. The nerve,” Kuan said.

Kuan also asked other people to pass on her statement so more people could know about Samsung’s “rude” and “uneducated” move.

Last Friday, Samsung launched Wilson as one of the brand ambassadors of Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge in an event held at the SM Mega Fashion Hall.

What Alyzza Agustin tells 'bashers'

MANILA - Glamour model Alyzza Agustin on Wednesday responded to the backlash she received after claiming in a social media post that she used an alleged business card of a police official to dodge a traffic violation.

Agustin has since apologized for the gaffe.

She issued a new statement on Facebook in reaction to the flak she has been getting.

"I made decisions that I regret, and I took them as learning experience. I'm human, not perfect, like anybody else," she wrote.

"Thanks sa walang sawang nag papagaan ng loob ko at sa mga nag babash sa akin thanks as well were [sic] human we made mistake so sana wag niyo ako I judge by what happened," she added.

Agustin also explained the reason she shared the now deleted Facebook post, which went viral on the social media site on Monday.

The model said she was just "overwhelmed" by what happened and that she has since come to regret her decision.

Agustin concluded with: "I was regretted [sic] of what I have done because of simple status I almost ruined my life."

Philippine National Police (PNP) Director for Plans Chief Superintendent Alexander Ignacio has denied involvement with Agustin.

He also pointed out that the business card the model used was not an official card representing his office.

"I will not tolerate the use of my business card, the facilities of my office or the privileges of my rank for unlawful purposes," Ignacio said in a statement.

Peaches Geldof dead; Daughter of entertainer Bob Geldof was 25

LONDON - Peaches Geldof, the wild-child second daughter of Irish singer Bob Geldof who filled the pages of British tabloids with her late-night antics as she partied through the world of fashion and celebrity, was found dead Monday at age 25.

There was no immediate word on the cause of her death at her home in Wrotham, Kent, southeast England but police called it "unexplained and sudden."

Peaches Geldof had admitted using drugs in the past but said in a 2009 interview that she had quit.

The news of her death came as a shock to Britain's entertainment and fashion circles, where Geldof had been active as a model, television presenter and fashion writer. She was a frequent attendee at fashion shows in London and New York, and was photographed just last week at a London show for the Tesco brand F&F.

Geldof was only a girl of 11 when her mother Paula Yates, a popular television presenter, died of a drug overdose in 2000, and those who knew her said it hit her extremely hard.

The last tweet she sent on Twitter came on Sunday, when she posted a photograph of herself as a toddler next to her mother along with the caption: "Me and my mum."

Her father issued an anguished statement Monday from the family about her death.

"Peaches has died. We are beyond pain. She was the wildest, funniest, cleverest, wittiest and the most bonkers of all of us," he wrote. "Writing 'was' destroys me afresh. What a beautiful child. How is this possible that we will not see her again? How is that bearable? We loved her and will cherish her forever."

The statement was signed by Bob, Jeanne (his partner), Peaches' sisters Fifi and Pixie and her half-sister Tiger Geldof.

Kent police declined to name Geldof, but when asked about her death they said in a statement that officers were called to a house near Wrotham following a report of concern for a woman's welfare Monday afternoon. They said the 25-year-old woman was pronounced dead by emergency officers and that the death was being treated as "unexplained and sudden."

In an interview with the Guardian newspaper in 2009, Geldof acknowledged that she used drugs as a teenager but said she had stopped.

"'Yeah, I've taken drugs. Yes, I have had experiences, and a few of those experiences were unsavory, not ones I want to repeat, but I was growing up. I wanted the experience," she told the paper.

"I wasn't hugely into drugs and I'm sober now," she added. "I'm not Amy Winehouse. I never have been. I wasn't a crackhead."

Geldof was married twice. She leaves behind her second husband, Tom Cohen, lead singer of the defunct London punk band S.C.U.M, and two sons, 23-month-old Astala and 11-month-old Phaedra.

"My beloved wife Peaches was adored by myself and her two sons Astala and Phaedra, and I shall bring them up with their mother in their hearts every day. We shall love her forever," Cohen said in a statement.

At age 19 she married Max Drummey, a vocalist with U.S. indie rock band Chester French, at a drive-thru chapel in Las Vegas while the two were on holiday. The marriage lasted six months and ended in 2009.

Reaction from other friends and acquaintances across Britain was disbelief.

"It's very, very sad. Peaches has overcome a lot in her childhood, seemed to be getting her life together. You hear something like this and words can fail you. It's just tragic, terrible news," Ray Levine, Peaches' former publicist, told Sky News.

"Having to deal with the death of your mother at such a young age would be difficult for any child, let alone someone in the public spotlight," he added.

It was not easy being the daughter of a famous, wealthy father. In the public eye since her teenage years, Peaches Geldof struggled with a turbulent social life, highlighted at every turn by a British press eager for celebrity news.

Born on Mar. 13, 1989, she left home at 16 and began writing columns for fashion magazines and newspapers, as well as dabbling in television presenting and modeling. She was well-known among London's young and trendy crowd, frequently snapped wearing cutting-edge outfits on catwalk front rows or on red carpets at movie premieres and exclusive club events.

But more often than not, British tabloids and gossip magazines focused on the more sordid details of her life, including reports that she was caught shoplifting cosmetics and claims that she used heroin.

In 2010 she was dropped from a lingerie modelling contract after photographs showing her topless and allegations that she used drugs surfaced.

Bob Geldof, 62, rose to fame in the late 1970s as the lead singer of the Irish punk band The Boomtown Rats, which still occasionally performs. He became an internationally renowned social activist in the 1980s by marshaling the power of his fellow music celebrities, most notably as co-organizer of the 1984 Band-Aid movement and the following year's Live Aid concerts that raised millions for famine relief in Ethiopia.

The fundraising song he co-wrote, "Do they Know It's Christmas?" featuring an ensemble of pop stars remains a radio favorite in Britain and Ireland at Christmastime.

In 2005, he helped organize more celebrity-studded concerts under the banner Live 8 — timed to coincide with a G8 summit taking place in Scotland — that raised funds to fight poverty. For the past decade he has worked alongside fellow Irish rocker Bono at events organized by the U2 singer's anti-poverty charity One.

Kate Upton three-peats (sort of)

Kate Upton and I go way back, to the spring of 2011, when we rapped about her being a fan of the Yankees, Knicks and especially Jets, thanks to her sister working in client relations for the team.

But we both were younger and more innocent then. In the ensuing years she has become an international star, with three consecutive Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue covers, joining Christie Brinkley...

Danica Magpantay has message for aspiring models

MANILA – For supermodel Danica Magpantay, it was not easy to get to where she is now.

Even after winning the prestigious Ford Supermodel of the World competition in 2010, Magpantay still had to get used to rejection before scoring modeling projects.

“Dati, akala ko ‘di ako naaapektuhan, like ‘hindi, okay lang ‘yan. Hindi. ‘Pag one [rejected application] okay. Two, okay. ‘Pag nakawalo ka na, sampu, ‘yun na ‘yung magsta-start na magka-self doubt ka,” she said in an interview on the ABS-CBN program “Tapatan ni Tunying” aired on Thursday.

Magpantay eventually realized that she was not chosen in some projects not because she wasn’t good enough – it just so happened that they were looking for a specific face, a specific character.

“Lahat naman ng tao na nagpapa-book, may gusto silang look. Hindi lang ikaw ‘yung gusto nilang look,” she said, adding that she opted to focus on the projects where she got accepted.

The same applies to models who have achieved a certain level of success, said Magpantay, who noted that one should not rest on her laurels in this kind of industry.

“It’s a job that pays well as long as you work well. Kung wala kang trabaho, wala kang pera. Hindi siya ‘yung nine-to-five na trabaho na you have [a stable] income,” she explained.

Having said this, Magpantay gave this advice to those who want to venture into the world of modeling: “It’s not [just] about you.”

“Keep your feet on the ground. Know what you’re getting into. Work professionally. And enjoy [because] at the end of the day, ‘pag tapos na lahat, it’s just an experience,” she said.

“Always give back. Always offer it (achievement) to God,” she added.

Values, education

Magpantay is currently based in New York as she continues to fulfill her dream of being a supermodel.

“At a young age, I’ve achieved this much. I’m experiencing life for myself… That’s already success for me,” she said. “Hindi lang ‘yung modeling ‘yung tinitignan ko eh. Tinitignan ko ‘yung experiences I’ve gained, people I’ve met, how much I’ve learned from myself. Mas nakilala ko ‘yung sarili ko.”

While she is away from her family most of the time, the 20-year-old Filipina beauty said she does not forget the values that her parents taught her through the years.

“I really have to give it to my parents. They raised me well. Hindi naman po sa pagmamayabang, pero hindi po talaga ako maloko,” said Magpantay, whose mother is Supermodel of the World Philippines 1990 winner and makeup artist Lala Flores.

“I can enjoy life and still be responsible,” she said when asked if she has been influenced by the bad lifestyle choices associated with modeling.

Before moving to New York, Magpantay was a fine arts student of the University of the Philippines.

She said she is still planning to get a college degree despite her lucrative modeling career.

“I’m saving up for school. I want to study again. Sabi ng parents ko, ‘you have to go to school.’ And I have to give them a diploma,” she said.
