Butt exposure on daytime gets MTRCB's attention

MANILA -- A "buttocks exposure scene" in an episode of a locally aired foreign sitcom drew the attention of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB), prompting a mandatory conference to discuss the matter.

On its official Twitter page, the MTRCB on Tuesday identified the scene which aired on Monday, October 21, during an episode of the popular British program "Mr. Bean."

"Mr. Bean," which had a six-year run in the United Kingdom starting 1989, currently airs at 9:45 a.m. as part of ABS-CBN's "Team Animazing" line-up.

Other programs in this block include the cartoon adventure "Jackie Chan's Fantasia" and the live action series "Power Rangers RPM."

In the episode of "Mr. Bean" aired locally on Monday, the title character portrayed by Rowan Atkinson is seen woken up by loud music from a neighboring hotel room. Appearing to be naked, he gets up to demand silence but somehow ends up locked out from his own room.

The character then scrambles to hide from passers-by along the corridors. He gets various items, such as signages and a fire extinguisher, to cover his private parts. At one point, he is seen crawling into an elevator with his buttocks exposed.

Noting the episode aired over "free TV," the MTRCB on Tuesday said it has set a mandatory conference with ABS-CBN on November 5.

'Wowowillie' under probation over skimpy outfits

MANILA, Philippines -- The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) placed the noontime show "Wowowillie" on a three-month probation.

The board also subjected the show, which is hosted by Willie Revillame, to a Strong Parental Guidance (SPG) classification effective immediately.

In a statement, MTRCB said the show already apologized to the board.

"At today's hearing conducted by the MTRCB's Ad Hoc Committee on the skimpy outfits and excessive flesh exposure in Wowowillie's 16 April 2013 & other episodes, TV5 and the said show accepted responsibility for the said lapses and apologized to the MTRCB," the statement read.

"The MTRCB, through the panel, ordered placing the program under probation, subjecting it to per-episode review for 3 months, and subjecting it to an SPG (Strong Parental Guidance) rating effective immediately. Tv5 and Wowowillie were further required to submit reform and self-regulatory measures by 06 May 2013," it added.

The probation came after the agency called the show's attention over the revealing outfits of "Wowowillie" dancers wore on its April 16 episode.

Last month, MTRCB also called the attention of "Wowowillie" after Revillame lambasted his guest co-hosts Ethel Booba and Ate Gay live on air.

MTRCB slaps 20-day suspension on 'T3'

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board on Thursday slapped a 20-day preventive suspension order on TV5's public affairs show "T3" over threatening comments made on air by brothers Ben, Raffy and Erwin Tulfo against showbiz couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barreto.

The couple figured in a brawl with the Tulfos' brother, Ramon, at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport last Sunday.

The MTRCB said it will be hearing the case on Monday.

MTRCB spokesman Eugenio Villareal said they will also look into the relationship and dynamics "between the anchors and networks."

"Did you issue measures to prevent such incidents?" Villareal said.

The Tulfo brothers were earlier given a three-day suspension by TV5.

With the MTRCB ruling, their entire show cannot air until the end of the month or after the MTRCB concludes its investigation.

MTRCB sets hearing on Tulfos’ threats vs Santiagos

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) - The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has scheduled a hearing on the threats made by Erwin, Raffy and Ben Tulfo against celebrity couple Raymart Santiago and Claudine Barretto on their show, "T3," which aired on TV5 on Monday.

Acting on numerous complaints from the general public and based on the Board's own monitoring, the Office of the MTRCB Legal Counsel has found probably cause to charge the television program "T3 Kapatid Sagot Kita," aired over TV5, for violation of Section 3(c), P.D. 1986 for airing scenes and utterances that are indeceent and contrary to law, or with a dangerous tendency to encourage the commission of violence, or of a wrong or crime, during its 07 May 2012 episode,” MTRCB chairperson Mary Grace Poe Llamanzares said in a statement on Tuesday.

The MTRCB said it is also “endorsing” the matter to the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) for “approriate action with respect to the television personalities involved.”

Earlier in the day, MTRCB board member Atty. Eugenio "Toto" Villareal said the MTRCB was "shocked" that the Tulfo brothers threatened and cursed the celebrity couple live on their show.

He said the MTRCB’s legal department will conduct an investigation and if proven that they violated the board's guidelines, the show could face suspension or even cancellation.

The MTRCB also appealed to the executive producers of all networks to be careful for the sake of TV viewers, especially children.

In 2010, the MTRCB placed the ABS-CBN talent show "Showtime" on a 20-day preventive suspension, after guest judge Rosanna Roces made controversial statements against teachers and co-judge Vice Ganda.

Last year, TV5's "Willing Willie" hosted by Willie Revillame was also suspended by the MTRCB for one month amid a public uproar over its March 12 episode wherein a 6-year-old boy was cajoled into simulating a striptease.

The MTRCB concluded that the episode of "Willing Willie" violated a law against immoral and indecent broadcasts that run counter to Filipino values. -- with report from Dennis Datu, DZMM
