Tuason as state witness a tactical decision: De Lima
MANILA - Justice Secretary Leila de Lima defended the admission of "pork barrel" scam respondent-turned-state-witness-applicant Ruby Tuason into the Department of Justice's (DOJ) Witness Protection Program (WPP) on provisional coverage.
The justice chief stressed that the DOJ's move was a "tactical decision."
De Lima said that Tuason's testimony has a value added to the evidence of the DOJ and NBI against those charged for the multi-billion peso scam; and it completes the entire picture since Tuason has "direct personal knowledge" about the delivery and receipt of the supposed kickbacks.
Every time the DOJ admits anybody to turn state witness, it is always in furtherance of successful prosecution, she pointed out.

'Abused' maid seeks witness protection
MANILA, Philippines – House helper Evalyn Tanael, who is also
accusing the Marzan couple of abuse, is applying to be covered by the
Department of Justice's (DOJ) witness protection program (WPP).
Accompanied by public attorney's office (PAO) chief Persida Acosta and Bonita Baran, Tanael went to the DOJ office where she was interviewed by WPP officers for evaluation purposes.
Tanael said she is not backing down from her claim that Anna Liza and Reynold Marzan also maltreated her.
Baran has slapped the couple with illegal detention, homicide, and serious physical injuries before a Quezon City trial court.
Tanael will serve as witness in Baran's case, and is contemplating on filing separate charges.
"Kinukurot ako, sinasampal, tsaka sinasabutan. Konting pagkakamali, nananakit. Lakas loob lang ako nagpunta dito, iniwan ko nga mga anak ko, para matulungan si Bonita," she said.
Acosta, meantime, lashed back at the Marzans for threatening to ask the court to cite her in contempt for her alleged damaging statements against them in media interviews.
"Bakit ako ipapa-contempt? Sila naman ang una nagsasalita," Acosta said.
Acosta also hit the Marzans for accusing Baran's camp of trial by publicity, saying it does not apply in the case because the case was covered by a Senate inquiry.
