Gionee Marathon 3 focuses on longer battery life

MANILA -- The Gionee Marathon 3 or M3 is a device designed for the long haul. That's because this smartphone was developed in response to the clamor of users for a longer battery life.

While there are alternatives such as the powerbank, not everyone is receptive to these power sources, which tend to be cumbersome.

The centerpiece of the M3 is the 5000mAh battery that ensures longer operating hours than any Android-based brand currently selling in the market, Gionee claimed. It provides 33.7 hours of talk time and 32.8 days of standby time.

One of the unique features of the M3 is On the Go (OTG) Reverse Charging, which enables a user to charge his phone to another unit while attending important call on the other line but the battery is running low.

It also has an OTG Data Transfer. Just plug in the files and you can access your files on the phone.

If you are on the road caught in a monstrous traffic jam along EDSA, you can tinker with the HotKnot feature that allows sharing of photos by just lightly knocking two phones together.

A Mediatek quad core 1.3 GHz processor provides the computing muscle for the user to download all the files he needs for work and leisure. An 8 gigabit (GB) of internal memory, meanwhile, and 1 GB of RAM give users plenty of space to store the files.

Running on the Android (Kitkat 4.4 version), the M3 can connect to GPS, Wi-Fi, radio, Bluetooth and loud speaker.

For the photo aficionados, the M3 has an 8 megapixel camera. And if you want to enjoy music, the micro dual SIM phone is equipped with dual noise cancellation and digital theater sounds (DTS) capability.

The M3 may not be a sexy phone but it delivers the power to enable the user to stay longer being connected.

It carries a retail price of P7,999.

Review: Gionee Gpad G5 and Elife Mini 7

Gionee, a Chinese mobile phone brand that's making its mark in the global phone market, continues to introduce new models to the Philippine market like the Gpad G5 phablet and the Elife Mini 7 smartphone.

At first glance, the Gpad G5 impresses with its size. Measuring 157.3x77.6x7.9mm and weighing 104.6 grams, you could say the G5 is a mobile workhorse. For one, its 2400mAh battery is expected to deliver up to 288 hours of standby time, up to 15 hours of talk time on 2G, and up to 12 hours talk time on 3G.

Operating the Gpad 5 requires some adjustment because of the bigger size compared to the smaller smartphones. Users with a small grip would find it a bit hard to handle the Gpad 5. Nevertheless, Filipinos don’t seem to mind this. Just observe the millennials who are playing their 5.5-inch smartphones in coffee shops, restaurants, buses and even while walking.

With dual-SIM functionality, running on Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box operating system, the G5 gives users convenience by having greater access to contacts and they can also watch videos in HD. The surface is ensured to be scratch-proof thanks to the AGC Dragontrail glass protection.

The G5 comes with an 8-megapixel rear camera with LED flash, and a 2-megapixel front facing camera. It has 8GB of inbuilt storage with that can be expanded up to 32GB.

For seamless connection, the G5 has 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS/A-GPS. For music lovers, it has FM radio connectivity and also sports dual crystal loud speaker with DTS.

While the G5 has definitely good features, it is competing in a very tough category. But after having used G5, it is absolutely a good buy.

Elfie Mini

Just like the Elife 5.5 endorsed by screen siren Ellen Adarna, the Elife E7 is equally sexy, inside and out. Internally, E7 is guaranteed to deliver powerful performance thanks to an octa-core processor. Watching videos on the E7 is a pleasure with its 4.7-inch 720p IGZO display from Sharp. Although the resolution of the screen is not full HD, the E7 still manages to deliver higher pixel density due to the comparatively smaller screen size.

On the outside, one can notice Elife E7 has exquisite design and quality. The company has been able to give E7 a classy look even if it’s made of plastic. Resembling a rectangular bar with rounded top and bottom edges and flat side edges, the E7 can give branded models a run for their money in terms of loooks.

With a smaller frame, it is easy to handle, especially for people with average-sized hands. The front panel below the swivel camera features glass and adds to its attractive look.

User convenience is greatly considered with the power and volume rocker keys conveniently located at the right edge. The micro-USB port and 3.5mm headset jack are placed at the bottom edge. The left edge has the micro-SIM tray that cleverly houses two slots.

The swivel camera sits above the display, joining the top edge of the phone. It also houses the earpiece. The swivel can be easily twisted to bring the camera lens to the front. However, you'll need to rotate it back the opposite way as it doesn't move 360-degree.

Gionee claims that it has tested the swivel for several thousand rotations. During use, we never had problems with it and rotation was pretty smooth. Still, it remains to be seen how it will stand the test of time and wear and tear. The swivel lets one use the 13MP lens as the rear camera as well as the front one.

Overall, Gionee Elife E7 Mini looks and feels like a premium smartphone.

Ellen Adarna is endorser of 'sexy' Gionee phone

MANILA -- International mobile phone brand Gionee has chosen sexy star Ellen Adarna to be its Philippine brand ambassador as it launched on Sunday the ELIFE S5.5 at the SM North EDSA in Quezon City.

“We chose Ms. Ellen Adarna as our main endorser because she embodies the slim and sexy image of our ELIFE S5.5 model," said Michael Bangayan, president of Belexis Concepts, Inc,, the official distributor of Gionee mobile phones in the Philippines, in a interview with ABS-CBN online at the sidelines of the launch.

"She also projects a healthy and active lifestyle which Gionee is very active in pursuing,” Bangayan added.

Gionee has high expectations for the ELIFE S5.5 as he encourage Filipinos to visit its stores and request for a demonstration so they can experience the many features of the phone.

"I urge the consumers to try the ELIFE S5.5 so they can achieve the total experience,” Bangayan said, noting that Gionee is backed up by a strong research and development program.

Bangayan also boasted that Gionee has the capability to produce unique products in terms of features, noting that the earlier ELIFE phones have created a good impression among users.

"Gionee will be launching a lot of products as we go along,” he said, noting that the features of the ELIFE E and S series are "competitively priced as compared to other brands.”

Although Gionee is doing well in the market, Bangayan said the brand can still expand its market share because it has several products to offer and is three times more durable compared to the second generation after tests showed decreased visible scratches by 40 percent and increased compressive strength by 50 percent. It weighs 133 grams.

Although the ELIFE S5.5 is a slim device (1.45.1mm x7.20 mm x 5.6mm), Oliver Sha, Gionee head of global narketing, said it packs power with an octa-core chipset at 1.7 gigahertz (GHz), a processing power that was initially only found in big laptops.

“With such strength, the ELIFE S5.5 is capable of playing high definition movies while using high-end apps simultaneously without any lags,” said Sha.

“Gionee also threw in the best capacity to density ratio in the ELIFE S5.5’s battery, which means it is slimmer but lasts longer than other smartphones. Multitasking has never been this fun and stylish,” added Sha.

For multimedia requirements, Sha said the ELIFE S5.5 has two high-resolution cameras. The primary has 13 megapixels and the front camera with five megapixels. While on autofocus function, Sha said the main camera guarantees to capture images and videos with the sharpness and vibrancy similar from the one taken with a professional camera. Other functions of the camera include geo-tagging, panorama and high dynamic range.

Furthermore, Sha said the front camera is equally enjoyable with its 95-degree ultra wide angle, capturing more people and sceneries in a selfie.

On top of that, the ELFIE S5.5 has an image and video editor for processing multimedia before sharing it.
