California minimum wage rises to $9 per hour
REDWOOD CITY, Calif. – Good news for minimum wage workers in California — the state with the largest number of Filipinos.
On Tuesday, the Golden States’s minimum wage workers got their first raise in six years.
The state’s minimum wage gets bumped to $9 an hour; the first of two scheduled increases.
On January 16, 2016, workers will get another boost to $10 an hour.
When he signed the law last fall, California Governor Jerry Brown said it was his moral obligation to bring a living wage to a state with the highest cost of living.
But some business owners fear it will be the customers who will pay the price for the increase as the higher cost of doing business would get passed on to them.
