Jake Cuenca clarifies rant about local magazines

MANILA – Jake Cuenca clarified that he was not pertaining to any particular celebrity when he ranted about his disappointment over local magazines.

Through a Twitter post three weeks ago, Cuenca questioned the decision of magazines in the Philippines in featuring “people who could sell rather than having people who can actually influence fashion.”

“I don’t want to make it bigger than what it is. That’s my opinion. Take it or leave it. Wala namang personal. Wala lang, I was just looking at magazines tapos ganun ang naging reaction ko,” he said.

Cuenca stressed that he has nothing against Kathryn Bernardo or Daniel Padilla, who appeared on the cover of Yes magazine’s most beautiful stars issue, which came out on the same day he ranted on Twitter.

“I was not mentioning any single actor. I wasn’t going off about actors or celebrities. I was talking about magazines. At the end of the day, alam ba ng mga tao kung gaano kami ka-close ni DJ? Okay kaming dalawa nun. I’m not pertaining to any celebrity,” he said.

Cuenca said he was just “pushing for people to be more creative.”

“Is it so bad for someone to react to something, especially I’m an actor? But like I said, opinion ko lang 'yun,” he said.

Cuenca is currently part of the ABS-CBN daytime series “Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin,” which also stars Kim Chiu, Gerald Anderson and Coleen Garcia.

Jake Cuenca, girlfriend back together after third breakup

MANILA - "Sabi nga nila, third time's a charm (You know what they say, third time's a charm)."

This was the statement of actor Jake Cuenca as he admitted that he and model Sara Grace Kelley recently broke up for the third time -- and got together again.

Cuenca, who was a guest on Thursday's episode of the ABS-CBN talk show "Magandang Buhay," said he and Kelley continue to work on their relationship.

"Oo, nag-break kami recently ulit (We broke up again recently)," he said.

"Every day, we are working on it," he added. "Pero nakakatuwa kasi nga nakikita niya ang effort ko na magbago (I'm happy because she sees my effort to change)... And she still comes back here for me. So I just want to thank her for that."

Addressing Kelley on television, he said: "I love you, Babe."



It was in December 2015 when Cuenca and Kelley called it quits. Last June, they were spotted kissing on a beach, prompting fans to say that love is sweeter the second time around.

Looking back, Cuenca said he has never met anyone like Kelley, adding that he will never give up on her again.

"Alam ko ang worth at value niya bilang tao. Kaya naman every time na may nangyayari ay hinahabol ko siya talaga kasi mahal na mahal ko siya (I know her worth and value as a person. That's why I always make an effort to pursue her, because I love her so much)," he said.

"I've never been so proud to be a boyfriend... I'm just making the most of every day na kasama ko siya (that I'm with her)."

Chanel OliThomas: ve No advantage of being Jake's ex

MANILA – Nueva Ecija beauty Chanel Olive Thomas believes her previous romantic ties with actor Jake Cuenca had nothing to do with her victory at this year's Miss Philippines Earth pageant.

Thomas, who broke up with Cuenca in late 2014, was crowned Miss Philippines Air at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Sunday night.

Speaking on “Mornings@ANC” on Monday, Thomas said the pageant world is completely different from showbiz.

“I didn’t know anyone in the pageant world so I really stepped into it fresh, clean slate. I was really just myself. With the girls, I just grew. For me, there’s no advantage of being the ex-girlfriend of Jake,” she said.

Although she cherishes what she and Cuenca had, Thomas stressed that she is “my own person and I have my own path.”

“God has a future for me and I’m excited for that and whatever he gives me is my own hard work. That’s how I was raised. I never told the girls in the beginning [that Jake was my boyfriend] because that doesn’t define me,” she said.

According to Thomas, joining beauty pageants is not really her thing. That’s why she considers her Miss Philippines Earth experience as life-chaning.

“This is the first pageant I’ve ever done in my life. I was never actually a pageant girl. For me, doing this actually, I felt I grew so much. I learned so much from the girls. I made so many new friendships. I guess it was a great journey for me because I saw myself change so much during the whole phase of the pageant,” she said.

Asked what made her decide to join Miss Philippines Earth, Thomas said: “No one really pushed me for it. All my friends were surprised… Doing this was really out of my comfort zone. I don’t know. I just saw myself really changed. I don’t know how to explain it.”

Although she was raised in Australia, Thomas said she fell in love with the Philippines and decided to stay in the country.

“I grew up in Australia. I moved to the Philippines last year… I was here for a vacation with my mom and then all of a sudden, I got offered modelling work and I had no commitments back in Australia so I just stayed and never looked back,” she said.

Why Jake Cuenca walked out of 'GGV' taping

MANILA – Jake Cuenca finally opened up about reports that he walked out of a taping of “Gandang Gabi Vice” where he was supposed to promote his upcoming show “Pasion de Amor.”

In an interview with ABS-CBN News and other reporters last Friday, Cuenca explained why he walked out of show, which allegedly surprised host Vice Ganda.

“Nagulat ako. Siyempre bago tinawag ang mga pangalan namin, pagsilip ko sa pintuan, nakita ko 'yung ex ko. Nandoon kasi lahat ng candidates ng Miss Earth. I just didn’t want to put my ex-girlfriend in that situation,” he said.

Cuenca is referring to Filipino-Australian model Chanel Olive Thomas, who is one of the 41 candidates in this year's Miss Philippines-Earth, representing San Antonio, Nueva Ecija.

“Hindi sa hindi ko kaya [na nandoon siya]. Naging gentleman lang ako na ayaw ko ilagay sa alanganin 'yung tao, lalo na moment niya ngayon na mag Miss Earth,” the actor added.

After what happened, Cuenca said he approached Vice Ganda to apologize and the TV host totally understood the situation.

“Nag-apologize ako kay Vice. Wala namang harm done kasi alam niya kung bakit ko ginawa 'yun. At the end of the day, nakatulog ako ng maayos kasi I did what a gentleman should have done in that situation,” he said.

“Hindi ko naman sila pwede paalisin. Paano ko ipo-promote ng maayos sa capability ko na nagulat ako na nandoon 'yung ex ko? Paano ko mapo-promote 'yung show ko?” he added.

Cuenca said he still respects his former girlfriend and believes he did the right thing.

The “Pasion de Amor” actor is currently in a relationship with model Sara Grace Kelley.

Jake Cuenca not in a rush to settle down

MANILA - Although he is already 27 and old enough to get married, Jake Cuenca said he is not in a rush to settle down and start his own family.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Wednesday, Cuenca said he just wants to go with the flow and see what’s in store for him.

“Bahala na si Batman. Kung naramdaman mo, gawin mo. Sa akin sa ngayon, ayaw kong madaliin kasi nakakasira lang sa relasyon kapag minamadali. Wala naman akong problema mag-settle down. Kapag naramdaman ko, gagawin ko. If hindi, hindi,” he said.

The actor said what’s important is that he is happy in his professional and personal life. Cuenca is currently in a relationship with model Sarah Grace Kelley.

“Super saya. 'Yun na lang muna [ang maibabahagi ko]. Ayaw ko naman maudlot yung nangyayari sa akin sa buhay ko ngayon,” he said.

Prior to his relationship with Kelley, Cuenca was going out with Filipino-Australian model Chanel Olive Thomas.

Meanwhile, the actor said he is looking forward to show his supporters what he has been working on these past few weeks.

“Meron akong ‘Pasion de Amor.’ Malapit na malapit na 'yun. Sana abangan niyo. Tine-taping na namin siya ngayon with Joseph Marco and Ejay Falcon,” he said.

Jake Cuenca wants to reconcile with ex-GF

MANILA – One month after he announced his split with Filipino-Australian model Chanel Olive Thomas, actor Jake Cuenca admitted he is still hoping they could get back together.

“I admit naman I’m not the perfect guy when it comes to relationships. Mahirap kasi malayo. I was away for more than a month. But we’re still friends and I’m hoping she’ll give me another chance... Sana this Christmas, ‘di ba?” Cuenca told entertainment site Push.

In a past interview, Cuenca said he considers his relationship with Thomas as something “for keeps.”

“Sobrang saya ko na nakilala ko 'yung girlfriend ko. I think this one’s for keeps. Super saya. Nag-e-enjoy ako sa relationship kasi kapag walang taping, hindi taping 'yung pinag-uusapan, hindi pelikula 'yung pinag-uusapan,” he said at the time.

This is why many were surprised when Cuenca revealed on Twitter last month that he is “single again.”

Meanwhile, Cuenca admitted that he got disappointed when his performance in “Ikaw Lamang” was not recognized in the recently concluded Star Awards for TV.

“I didn’t win. Nag-expect ako, so I was really disappointed kaya I will never expect again. Move on na lang tayo,” he said.

Nonetheless, the actor said he is excited to go back to work after taking up a one-month course on Method Acting in New York.

“It gave me a deeper understanding of the craft of acting. One month lang ako roon and it went so fast. Parang back to basics ang nangyari sa akin kasi kinakabahan ako uli,” he said.

“More than film and TV acting, they respect acting in theater, so I really want to try doing theater this year kasi iba talaga ang response ng live audience. The experience is very inspirational for me and also a confirmation na tama ‘yung personal thoughts and direction ko about acting,” he added.

Cuenca said he will try to take up more courses in New York if his schedule permits.

“Bitin nga, eh. Gusto ko pa sanang mag-aral kaso kailangan ko nang bumalik para magtrabaho. Baka next year, mas matagal akong mag-aaral,” he said.

Ejay, Ellen Adarna to heat up new soap

MANILA - Actor Ejay Falcon has already started working on his upcomimng series "Pasion de Amor," which also stars Coleen Garcia, Arci Muñoz, Ellen Adarna and Jake Cuenca.

"Nakapag-taping na po kami matagal na. Hinintay lang po namin si Jake Cuenca nakabalik na siya," Falcon told reporters.

In the series, a remake of the Colombian telenovela, Falcon will have Adarna as his leading lady.

"Ito ang pinakabago sa akin masasabi ko na grey charater siya pero ito ibang iba. Napanood niyo naman siguro. Napanood ko dati hindi pa ako artista noon, alam ko na din ang kwento," Falcon said.

Falcon said he really prepared for the new series and admitted that one of the requirements of the show is to have a sexy body.

"Matagal na pong pinaghandaan ito at ngayon ay tuloy-tuloy na. Paglabas ko pa lang ng 'PBB 'na cast na ako dito, 2009. Pinaghandaan namin, hindi lang ako, lahat kami pinaghandaan namin at yun ang unang requirement sa show na kailangan maganda po talaga ang katawan," he said.

Falcon said they are hoping to air 'Pasion de Amor' early next year.

Jake Cuenca wins Best Actor Award in New York

MANILA - Actor Jake Cuenca took home the Best Actor Feature award at the recently concluded 2014 International Film Festival Manhattan, held last October 23 at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Consulate General in New York.

The Kapamilya star was recognized for his role in the independent film "Mulat," while the film's director, Diane Ventura, was named Best Director for a global feature.

Moments after receiving his "first best actor award," Cuenca took to his Twitter account to describe his win: "Never won best actor in the Philippines. But certainly felt sweet winning it here in the states."

He also shared a photo of his award, along with Ventura's, on his Instagram account with the caption: "Yup that just happened! To God be the glory this is my first international award and I I just won best actor."


Mulat tells the story of a young man who falls in love with a mysterious woman with a "strange mental affliction."

Meanwhile, actress Liza Diño was also recognized at the festival for her role in the film "In Nomine Matris." The movie, directed by Will Fredo, was also named Best Feature Film.

The actress said her second win at the event --the first back in 2011 for her role in "Compound"-- felt "surreal and a million more emotions". She also thanked her fiance, Aiza Seguerra.

Mark Justine Aguillon, another Filipino, also won Best Actor in the Short Film category.

What Jake Cuenca feels about villain roles

MANILA -- Despite getting good reviews for his performance as the villain Franco Hidalgo in the hit primetime series "Ikaw Lamang," actor Jake Cuenca said he would like to take a break from playing bad boy roles.

In an interview with ABS-CBNNews.com, Cuenca explained that he wants to be choosy with his next role after "Ikaw Lamang," which also stars Coco Martin and Kim Chiu.

"It depends on the offer," Cuenca said when asked about doing more villain roles. "But if you ask me from where I'm standing now maybe, yes (I want to take a break from those roles).

"I don't want the character of Franco to easily be forgotten so I will have to preserve that by selecting the next villain role carefully," he added.

The actor said he is just thankful that viewers appreciate his performance in "Ikaw Lamang."

"I'm overwhelmed. It feels so good that people see the hard work I put into this role. All the more I'm decided to pursue studying acting more, so in the next project I can give the audience another unforgettable performance. I owe it to them," he said.

This doesn't mean, however, that "Ikaw Lamang" is about to end.

"Book one will end soon," he clarified. "There are still many things to expect."

"Ikaw Lamang" airs weeknights on ABS-CBN's primetime block after "Hawak Kamay."

Jake Cuenca bags nomination at NYC film fest

MANILA -- Actor Jake Cuenca bagged a best actor nomination at the 2014 Queens World Film Festival in New York for the indie movie "Nuwebe."

Cuenca is the only Filipino actor to receive a nomination in the competition, which runs from March 4-9.

Directed by Joseph Israel Laban, "Nuwebe," a Cinemalaya entry, is inspired by the actual story of one of the youngest mothers in Philippine history. Krista was just nine years old when she became pregnant. Her mother believes that she was impregnated by malevolent supernatural creatures called "nuno sa punso" but "the real story will prove to be more complicated than it seems."

Also part of the film were Barbara Miguel, Nadine Samonte, Manny Castañeda and veteran actress Anita Linda.

Jake Cuenca to try out for Azkals

MANILA - Actor Jake Cuenca wants to pursue his dream of becoming a football player.

During his guest appearance on the ABS-CBN game show "Minute to Win It" on Friday, Cuenca said he plans to try out for the Philippine national football team, also known as the Azkals.

"'Yung Jake Cuenca kasi para sa mga tao, usually bad boy, maangas. Pero ang hindi nila alam, susubok ako na maging professional football player next year. Susubok ako mag-Azkals," he said as he introduced himself in the show.

"Bukod doon, mama's boy ako. Mahilig din ako magluto pero mas mahilig akong mag-football," he added.

Currently, Cuenca is busy taping for ABS-CBN's hit series "Maria Mercedes" with Jessy Mendiola.

He is also promoting his film, "When The Love Is Gone," with Alice Dixon, Gabby Concepcion, Andi Eigenmann and Cristine Reyes.

In 2011, Cuenca expressed his interest in joining the Philippine football team.

Jake Cuenca denies fight with Rocco over Lovi

MANILA -- Actor Jake Cuenca denied that he had a fistfight with actor Rocco Nacino, who is now being linked romantically to actress Lovi Poe.

Cuenca had been vocal of his feelings for Poe, but the actress repeatedly addressed the Kapamilya star's intentions, saying they remain "genuine friends."

“I don’t have any reaction on that kasi Lovi is single, she can date,” Cuenca said during the much-awaited Star Magic Ball on Saturday at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati when asked about the supposed incident with Nacino.

According to tabloid reports, the two actors allegedly saw each other at Poe’s condominium unit.

Poe has earlier denied that such an incident occurred and on Saturday, Cuenca even said he hasn’t even met Nacino. “"Di ko pa siya nakikita," he told reporters.

But asked if he is the type of guy who would engage in a fist fight over a woman, he said: “Ipaglalaban ko kapag dapat ipaglaban but no instance like that."

Cuenca and Poe are starring in the upcoming drama ‘Lihis,” while Poe and Nacino appear in a new soap in another network.

Poe has also earlier denied any romance with Nacino, saying they have long known each other. She also denied to the entertainment website Pep.ph that Nacino is the reason for her "falling out" with Cuenca.

“No, mahirap kasing magsalita about that. Pero si Rocco, matagal ko na siyang kaibigan and it’s very different, malayo,” she told Pep.ph.

Jake Cuenca denies dating Cristine Reyes

MANILA – Actor Jake Cuenca has denied that he is currently dating actress Cristine Reyes after several photos of them together made the rounds online.

In an interview with “The Buzz” on Sunday, Cuenca said he and Reyes are just good friends and there is nothing more than that.

“Magkaibigan lang kami nun. We have a very good understanding. Isa siyang friendship na ayaw kong sirain,” he said.

Cuenca, however, admitted that Reyes is an attractive woman. “Alam niyo naman si Cristine, isang napakagandang babae na talagang kapag katrabaho mo, hindi mo kayang tigilang tignan,” he said.

Despite this, Cuenca maintained that both of them are happy being single.

Heartbreaker? Jake Cuenca says the pain always cuts both ways

Actor Jake Cuenca didn’t expect that in the press conference for his newest soap on ABS-CBN some seers would be around to give the stars and the press a reading.

One fortune-teller told Jake how adventurous and courageous he is, adding that if he wanted to get married now, he could surely make it happen.

“Natakot naman ako. Natakot lang nung sinabing huhulaan ako. Siguro hindi lang ako comfortable. Eh, kasali pala ‘yun sa presscon,” he said.

So is the tarot reader right in saying that sooner than later, he might be planning to tie the knot already? Wait, where’s the bride-to-be?

“This year? Parang malayo pa. I am only 24 years old,” he said.

“Eh ang ini-imagine kong paglagay sa tahimik, ‘yung parang kay Kuya Goma (Richard Gomez). Mga ganoong edad at estado na. Syempre, iisipin mo kung kelan ito. Paano. ‘Yung nasa tamang lugar. And these are the questions I do not ask myself. Obviously, I won’t be getting married this year. I am taking it slow nga in everything I do. Ibig kong sabihin, pinag-aaralan din.”

The subject of heartbreak was on everybody’s lips because the title of the new soap is “Kahit Puso’y Masugatan”, which also stars Iza Calsado, Andi Eigenmann, Gabby Concepcion and Ms. Jaclyn Jose.

So Jake is besieged with questions about his reputation as a heartbreaker. First off, he thinks it’s patently unfair.

“Paano ako manugat ng puso? Hindi naman intentional ‘yun. Hindi ko naman intensyon makasugat. Kung may mga nangyaring gano’n, ang feeling ko naman at that point, hindi lang ako ‘yun,” he said.

“Doon din nate-test ang character ko. Kasi, may mga sitwasyon’g nag-aapologize ka na, hindi naman tinatanggap ang pagso-sorry o paghingi mo ng kapatawaran. Kaya pinadadaan ko na lang. Hindi ko na rin binabalikan.”

For Jake, this heartbreak business always cuts both ways.

“Hindi naman isang tao lang ang nasasaktan kung natatapos o nawawala ang isang relasyon, ‘di ba? Ang sa akin, nasa kanila na ‘yun kung tatanggapin nila ang pagso-sorry ko sa inakala nilang pagsugat ko sa puso nila,” he explained.

He declares he is currently loveless. IWhat is Lovi Poe to him?

“A friend. Nagkasama lang naman kami sa movie. And up to now, nagpatuloy naman ang friendship namin. So wala akong masasabing may relasyon kami whatsoever.”

He is not being coy but circumspect.

“’Pag handa na ako to talk about it, hindi ko naman itinatago ang mga relasyon ko. Naging very honest naman ako. Kaya lang, napapansin ko lang, ‘pag nagpapadala ako sa mga sinasabi ng mga tao sa paligid,’pag nagpapadala ako sa ganoong feeling, parang it never works out,” he observed.

“Sino ba naman ang ayaw na magkaroon ng girlfriend ‘di ba? Gusto ko rin naming mag-succeed aas a boyfriend o sa relasyon na papasukin ko. But when it comes to that part, ngayon, gusto ko na talagang maingatan ng husto. Marami na rin ako natutunan sa mga dinaanan kong relationships. Kaya ‘yung mga sa tingin ko, sumablay ako, doon ako iiwas. Baka kasi another failed relationship na naman. Kaya gusto ko, gradual naming mangyari ang lahat.”

So he is taking it slow this time. He admits that he and Lovi go out on friendly dates.

“Yeah, date. Pero hindi ako nanliligaw. Friends nga. Masarap na maging simple muna,” he qualified.

Apart from his new soap which will start airing on Monday, Jake is also excited about his role in “Lihis”, a Joel Lamangan film in which he stars opposite Baron Geisler.

He plays a gay character in the movie, a new challenge for an actor looking to expand his range.

“I couldn’t say no to Direk Joel. And comfortable naman ako sa sexuality ko. I liked the script. Nangyari siya in the ’80s. panahon ng mga aktibista. At a time na hindi pa tanggap ang mga ganoong relasyon. But it’s not ‘yung tipikal na gay film. Kung may kissing scene, hindi pa naman nakukunan. But I know, maaalagaan kami ni Direk if we need to do the scene. It will be a first for me. It’s a beautiful love story. Hindi stereotypical.”
