What went wrong? A look back at Bea-Zanjoe romance

MANILA - Following much speculation, actor Zanjoe Marudo has finally confirmed on Wednesday that he and Bea Alonzo have called it quits.

On "Tonight with Boy Abunda," the 33-year-old Marudo, who was nearly in tears, admitted that his five-year relationship with Alonzo has come to an end.

While it didn't come as a surprise considering that the two were rarely seen together for the past few months, many were still sad to find that the reports about the couple's split were true.

With that in mind, we take a look back at the long relationship of Alonzo and Marudo -- their many firsts and those early signs of trouble -- to maybe shed light as to why the latter declared that her former flame was "worth the fight."

In their first photo together on Alonzo's Instagram account, the two can be seen sharing a meal at Little Tokyo in Makati. A month later, she and Marudo celebrated their first anniversary as a couple.

At the time, Marudo admitted that their relationship was stronger than ever. "Mas nai-in-love pa ako lalo. Mas mature na ang relasyon. Kumbaga hindi lang sa relasyon ng boyfriend at girlfriend. Parang alam mo 'yon para na din kaming best friend at magkaibigan nandoon ang usapan, ganoon na ang level."

Why Bea Alonzo isn't on Facebook, Twitter

MANILA -- Why is Bea Alonzo not on Twitter and Facebook?

Alonzo, who does maintain an Instagram account, said she still wants to keep some aspects about her life private, despite being an actress.

In an interview on Tuesday at a press conference for her newest endorsement Fuji Film, explained that she the reason she is on Instagram is because she loves taking and looking at photos.

"Actually bago pa lumabas ang Instagram, madami sa akin ang nagtatanong kung bakit wala akong Twitter and Facebook accounts. Actually I keep my private life really private. I only give a part of myself to the public, that's why I never opened a Twitter account and a Facebook account. I only opened an Instagram account because I like looking at pictures and I like posting pictures," Alonzo said.

"It's not really sharing too much. It's not really about telling everyone who I am and what I do every day. It's more of posting really nice pictures of my travels. Kasi mas gusto ko na nakikilala ako through my movies and not through my personal life," she added.

Meanwhile, Alonzo, who is also promoting her upcoming film "A Second Chance" with John Lloy Cruz, urged those on social media to be more responsible when posting.

"Kung mapapansin mo sa account ko, wala akong negativity. I only post positive pictures and positive thoughts because 'yun ang gusto kong i-share sa publiko. Sana I can keep it that way," she said.

What caused Zanjoe-Bea quarrel

MANILA -- Zanjoe Marudo admitted having a recent argument with girlfriend Bea Alonzo, which he said stemmed from their lack of time for each other.

"Oo, dati, nakakainis din pag, alam mo 'yon, hindi na kayo... nawawalan na kayo ng time. Mabilis na uminit 'yung ulo niyo dahil hindi na kayo nagkikita," he said.

"Pero nalagpasan na namin," the 31-year-old actor said in an interview on "Showbiz Inside Report" aired Saturday.

The "One More Try" star, who has been in a relationship with Alonzo since March 2011, said they have come to accept their situation.

Both prized talents of ABS-CBN, Marudo currently stars in primetime series "Annaliza," in addition to being a mainstay on the late-night gag show "Banana Split"; while Alonzo is hard at work on her latest film "She's the One."

"Natanggap na namin na kailangan natin magtrabaho. 'Anong gusto natin gawin? Huwag na magtrabaho tapos mag-enjoy?' Hindi naman pwedeng gano'n," the actor said.

"Darating din naman 'yung punto na magbe-break ka nang matagal, so do'n naman 'yung time na pwede siguro i-enjoy ang isa't-isa," he said.

Asked how he plans to tackle similar situations in the future, Marudo said, "Iyon 'yung mga bagay na, kung pwede, minsan, pag-aawayan pa 'diba."

"Pero kumbaga nalagpasan na namin. Kumbaga nagiging malawak na 'yung utak namin. Nagkakaintindihan na kami sa mga gano'n. Malulungkot ka nalang pero hindi niyo na gagawing issue," he said.

Bea holds golf tournament for Zanjoe's birthday

MANILA - Actress Bea Alonzo organized a golf tournament on Sunday for her boyfriend, actor Zanjoe Marudo, who will celebrate his 31st birthday on Tuesday, July 23.

The golf tournament was supposedly a surprise for Marudo but his good friend, comedian Bayani Agbayani, accidentally told the actor about it due to excitement.

The event was attended by Marudo’s family and close friends in and out of showbiz.

In an interview with “The Buzz,” Marudo said he appreciates what Alonzo did because playing golf is his passion, aside from acting.

“Hindi ko in-expect na magkakaroon ako ng ganitong klaseng selebrasyon so nakaktuwa talaga. Nakakatuwa na 'yung ginawa niya, talagang makakapagpasaya sa akin. Ito ang hilig ko talaga, maglaro ng golf,” he said.

Asked whether Alonzo also gave her hand in marriage as a gift to Marudo, the actress said: “Bakit ba sila nagmamadali? Nagsasawa na ba sila sa amin? Hindi, matagal pa iyon.”

“Gusto muna namin i-enjoy ang stage na ito kasi hindi mo na ito mababalikan kapag naging mag-asawa na kayo, 'di ba?” she said.
