Vandolph in another car accident; 1 injured

MANILA - A motorcycle rider was injured after the vehicle of actor Vandolph Quizon figured in an accident along Sucat Road, Paranaque on Thursday.

According to an eyewitness account, the black Toyota Fortuner driven by Quizon was traversing Sucat Road from Paranaque towards Baclaran when the vehicle swerved to the right, hitting the Paranaque boundary sign.

The impact resulted in the vehicle going to the opposite lane, hitting and injuring motorcycle rider Michael Fereira.

The incident caused a traffic jam within the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) complex.

Quizon was brought to the Paranaque traffic office for investigation and his vehicle was towed by traffic authorities.

Fereira was brought to the nearest hospital.

Vandolph is the son of the late Comedy King Dolphy with former sexy actress Alma Moreno.

In November 2001, Vandolph crashed his F150 pick-up into an Isuzu Elf Truck in Pangasinan.

His girlfriend, Desiree "Ishi" Raquiza, died weeks later. Vandolph underwent several operations to repair his damaged bones.

Dolphy properties up for auction

MANILA - A public auction featuring over 30 real estate properties passed down by the late Comedy King Rodolfo "Dolphy" Quizon will be held on January, son Eric Quizon revealed.

In an interview on "Aquino & Abunda Tonight" aired Friday, the younger Quizon explained that the decision to auction off the inherited properties was part of an initiative to raise funds for the planned museum honoring his father.

"We've been trying to liquidate some of the assets kasi nga kailangan din namin ng pera. Kung baga we have plans na i-develop 'yung mga properties pero siyempre kailangan namin ng magkaroon ng pera," he shared.

The Dolphy Aid para sa Pinoy Foundation is also set to receive part of proceeds, according to Quizon.

The Dolphy Estate Auction will be held live at the Dolphy Theater. It will be open to those who register before January 31.

Those interested will need to contact HMR Auctions.

Among the properties that will be sold off are those in Batangas, Antipolo, Cavite, Samar, Baguio, and Bulacan, among others.

Dolphy, whose body of work in the entertainment industry spans decades, succumbed to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease on July 10, 2012. He was 83.

Quizons recall fond memories of Dolphy

MANILA – Exactly a year ago today, the showbiz industry and the country lost its Comedy King.

On Wednesday morning, a Mass was held at Dolphy's burial site at the Heritage Park in Taguig City to commemorate the comedian's first death anniversary.

Present during the Mass were members of the Quizon family including Dolphy’s long-time partner, singer Zsa Zsa Padilla.

Also there were Doplhy’s daughters Nicole and Zia, as well as the comedian’s sons Vandolph, Eric, Ronnie and Epy.

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Eric said he and the rest of his siblings can't believe that a year has already gone by since Dolphy died.

“Parang ang bilis lang ng mga araw. Hindi namin namalayan na isang taon na pala. Pero dahil araw-araw nasa isip namin siya, hindi namin napansin na ganun na pala siya katagal nawala,” Eric said, noting that there have been numerous occasions where Dolphy has appeared to them in dreams or has made his presence felt.

The actor-director said his father may be physically gone but he is still very vibrant in the hearts of so many.

“Just like anyone, siyempre isang importanteng tao ang nawala sa amin. We are all coping. Hindi mawawala ang pain, he said.

Meanwhile, Zia shared that she is still having a difficulty every time she feels Doplhy’s absence.

“It’s hard kasi we are still living in the same house so it feels like parang every day, parang nasa hospital lang siya. Parang flashback to those days,” she said.

But just like her other siblings, Zia said she is trying her best “to move on and fill our lives with positivity.”

Dolphy monument to be unveiled this month

MANILA, Philippines -- A monument honoring the late comedian Dolphy will soon rise along Roxas Boulevard, Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim announced on Tuesday.

The monument for the country's Comedy King is now being constructed in front of the Museo Pambata near the US Embassy, as well as the statue of another showbiz legend, action king Fernando Poe, Jr.

Lim, who inspected the site on Tuesday, is one of the closest friends of the well-loved actor who died last year.

In a statement, Lim said he believes "it is but fitting to honor him for his great contribution to the field of arts, particularly the movie and television industry and touching the lives of so many Filipinos when he was alive, through the countless movies and TV shows he made."

The mayor revealed that unknown to many, Dolphy helped numerous needy people without any fanfare, including the poor children of Manila.

City engineer Moises Alcantara said Dolphy’s statue is a seven-feet bronze hot cast antique finished and weighs about 300 kilos.

Alcantara said the statue, which is being made by famous sculptor Jonas Roces based on a photograph supplied and duly approved by Dolphy’s family, will be finished within the month.

Meanwhile, former Miss International Gemma Cruz-Araneta, deputy chairperson of the Manila Historical and Heritage Commission, explained that the Museo Pambata was a beneficiary of the RVQ Foundation which was established by Dolphy in 1966, which is the reason why it had been chosen as the site of his monument.

Araneta said the monument will all be at the personal expense of Lim, "just like the monument he built for FPJ."

Dolphy was awarded as Outstanding Manilan in 2010 and received the Diwa ng Lahi award in 2012, given by City Hall in celebration of the city’s founding anniversary.

Araneta also noted that Dolphy grew up in Manila, where he began his showbiz career as a dancer at the Avenue, Lyric and Orient theaters.

Nida Blanca's daughter says goodbye to Dolphy

MANILA, Philippines -- Kay Torres, the daughter of the late actress Nida Blanca, attended the requiem Mass for Comedy King Dolphy on Sunday morning.



The veteran actor considered Blanca, who played his wife in the long-running sitcom "John en Marsha," his favorite leading lady.

"'Di magkikita na sila uli ni Mommy, di ba? Ang saya nila siguro. I love you Tito Dolphy, nag-iisa ka talaga!" Torres said.

Also attending the Sunday Mass were showbiz stalwarts Eddie Garcia and Rosa Rosal.

Garcia, 83, said, "Mabuti siyang tao, walang kaaway."

The veteran actor and director also cracked a joke -- in keeping with Dolphy's wish for people to smile at his funeral.

Eric Quizon plans roast for Dolphy's birthday

MANILA, Philippines – From the time the country’s Comedy King Dolphy was rushed to the Makati Medical Center on June 9 and on to the the many tributes after the veteran actor passed away on Tuesday night, his son, Eric Quizon, had been a picture of strength and grace.

As the appointed spokesman for the popular comedian’s family, Quizon faced the cameras and the media with admirable calm.

“A source of grace and strength? I tried my best,” Quizon said. “After this 'di ko alam kung bibigay na ako, I had no time to mourn him so hindi ko alam how I will handle myself.”

And on Sunday, Quizon finally gave in to grief, as his father was brought to his final resting place at the Heritage Park in Taguig.

But Quizon’s job is far from over.

With Dolphy’s upcoming birthday on July 25 – he would have turned 84 – Quizon and the rest of his siblings are set to gather again – and hopefully the mood would be a lot lighter.

“I want it to be a roast, laughter,” Quizon said.

Quizon also said he would lead the Dolphy Aid Para sa Pinoy Foundation, which aims to provide educational assistance to less fortunate children.

“That was our vision. Matagal na naming plinano ang adbokasiyang ito. Kaya kahit wala na siya, andyan pa rin ang legacy. Maraming salamat sa inyong lahat na dumamay sa amin,” he said.

Bernardo Bernardo remembers Dolphy

GLENDALE, California – Upon learning of Comedy King Dolphy’s death, some Los Angeles-based members of the Filipino entertainment industry gathered at a local restaurant to grieve and remember the passing of one of their most beloved colleagues.

“I was devastated. It’s so final because, in a sense, Dolphy is immortal. His ceasing to be here physically does not end his presence for all Filipinos. He’s part of our collective memory as Filipinos,” said actor, singer and former co-star Bernardo Bernardo.

Perhaps no other living LA based-Filipino has worked more with Dolphy than Bernardo.

Bernardo spent 10 years on the Dolphy sitcom “Home Along da Riles” in the 1990s and was a frequent guest on “John and Marsha,” another top-rating sitcom in the '70s and '80s.

Bernardo, who is now an acting coach, said he passes on his experience with Dolphy to his pupils.

“What I remember especially is that (Dolphy) doesn’t want to shine on his own. He wants to make sure every single person in the cast is able to contribute something. He gives little tricks of the trade, little punch lines to make others shine,” he recalled.

Bernardo said the local Filipino community is planning to hold a tribute concert for the comedy king with the proceeds going to the Dolphy Aid Para sa Pinoy Foundation.

Some of Dolphy’s Los Angeles-based friends and family members will also hold masses and prayers in his honor throughout the week.

Doplhy’s last wish granted

In the Philippines, friends and family of Dolphy came together to celebrate and remember the life and career of the Philippine Comedy King and granted his last wish – to go home.

Dolphy’s remains were brought to his house at Marina Bay subdivision in Parañaque City before he was returned to Quezon City.

Dolphy also returned to his old home television network ABS-CBN on Wednesday, where his family, friends, and former colleagues in the media offered a necrological service for the late kind of comedy.

Dolphy’s long-time partner, Zsa Zsa Padilla, said the whole family came together, while he was still in the hospital.

“Posible naman pala na kahit ang mga anak ni Dolphy galing sa iba’t ibang nanay, pwede naman palang magkaisa,” said Padilla. “Hindi naging madali pero he was worth it.”

The Dolphy Theater at ABS-CBN was opened for public viewing on Wednesday in Manila.

His remains were brought back to the Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig for further public viewing till Saturday.

His internment will be on Sunday.

Last month Dolphy fell gravely ill and was admitted to Makati Medical Center. He passed away Tuesday night in the Philippines due to complication with pneumonia. He was 83.

Essential Dolphy: 10 to make you laugh, cry

From stage to radio and from TV to film, Dolphy has done it all.

Born Rodolfo Vera Quizon, Sr. on July 25, 1928, he began his career as a dancer and chorus boy at the Avenue and Lyric Theaters, where he took on the name “Golay.” He reverted to his given name when he was discovered by Fernando Poe Sr., which led to Dolphy’s first movie “Dugo ay Bayan,” which he made when he was only 19.

What emerged from that small role was a career that spanned more than 60 years.

Here are 10 of his most memorable works:

1. Jack and Jill (1954)

What's it about: In this movie version of Mars Ravelo's komiks novel, Dolphy plays Gorio, the gay brother of the tomboy Benita (Lolita Rodriguez), who drives a jeepney. When their father dies, Benita pretends to be a boy to get a job, while Gorio, disguised a girl, is "adopted" by a rich family.

Why it matters: "Jack and Jill," produced by Sampaguita Pictures, established Dolphy as a movie actor.

Dolphy's recollection of the film: Dolphy admitted he wasn't the first choice to play the role. "Hindi ko alam na ayaw ni Mars sa akin. Nalaman ko na lang dahil no'ng mag-showing na ang pelikula, sumulat: 'I apologize for underestimated your ability,'" he recalled in his biography, "Hindi Ko Ito Narating Mag-isa."

"Hindi rin ako nahirapang mag-prepare sa role ng bakla. Bukod sa marami akong nakikita, mayro'n akong mga uncle na gano'n, magkakabarkada sila," Dolphy added. "May nanligaw rin sa aking bakla, hindi naman mawawala iyon. No'ng panahon ng Hapon, mayro'ng bigay ng bigay ng kung anu-ano. Ako naman, tanggap ng tanggap."

2. Kalabog en Bosyo (1959)

What's it about: Based on Larry Alcala's long-running comic strip, which first appeared on Pilipino Komiks in 1947, "Kalabog en Bosyo" tells of the many misadventures of two bumbling detectives, played by Dolphy and Panchito.

Why it matters: "Kalabog en Bosyo" marked the first movie team-up of Dolphy and Panchito.

Dolphy's recollection of the film: Dolphy said he first met Panchito when he was still working on stage and the two also worked on radio. While Dolphy was already doing comedy at the time, Panchito started in drama.

"Niyaya ko si Panchito, 'Mas maganda itong mag-comedy ka. Iwan mo na iyang mga drama. Puro ka naman role ng tatay na namamatay, at kung anu-ano. Dito tayo, mas may pera dito," Dolphy said, adding that he asked Panchito be the "feeder" in their act.

"Walang tatalo sa timing ni Panchito na mag-feed. Iba ang bitiw niya," he said.

3. Captain Barbell (1964)

What's it about: The Pinoy superhero, who first appeared in Pinoy Komiks in 1963, was created by Mars Ravelo, who also created the female superhero Darna. Dolphy plays the superhero's alter-ego Tenteng, a thin, weakling and asthmatic person whose only dream was to become strong and muscular.

Why it matters: This film saw the collaboration of Dolphy and lifelong colleague, Fernando Poe Jr., who produced the film under his own D'Lanor Productions.

Dolphy's recollection of the film: "Kinuha niya (FPJ) ako sa D'Lanor, sa dalawang magkasunod na pelikula in 1964, parehong directed by Herminio 'Butch' Bautista, na tatay ni Herbert, at dati ring kasama ni Ronnie (Poe) at Erap (Estrada) sa 'Lo Waist Gang,'" Dolphy said.

"Sa 'Captain Barbell,' as Enteng, nakasuot ako ng mahabang sando na maluwang, nakalawit ang pinaka-tirante. Pag binubuhat ko ang barbell at sinisigaw ko ang 'Captain Barbell' nagiging si Bob Soler na ako. Kumita iyon."

4. Buhay Artista (1967)

What's it about: The comic tandem of Dolphy and Panchito headlined "Buhay Artista," one of the top-rating TV shows in the '60s. A Sunday evening treat for the whole family, telecast over Channel 3, from 7:30 t0 8:30 p.m., it dealt with the lives of ordinary people in various professions. A movie based on the TV show was later made in 1967.

Why it matters: The TV series of the same name marked the beginning of Dolphy's long affiliation with ABS-CBN, while the movie of the same name was the first movie produced by Dolphy's own RVQ Productions.

Dolphy's recollection of the film: "No'ng itatayo ko na ang RVQ Productions, nagpaalam ako sa kanya (ABS-CBN's Eugenio "Geny" Lopez Jr.) na balak ko sanang gawing movie yung show as my initial offering at kung puwede akin ang rights. Ang bilis ng sagot niya,'Sige, iyo naman talaga iyon.' Iba siyang kausap."

5. Facifica Falayfay (1969)

What's it about: Directed by Luciano "Chaning" Carlos, the movie is about a boy, Pacifico, who was raised as a girl. Film critic Noel Vera wrote: "Dolphy makes a grand entrance, sashaying down a staircase in a see-through raincoat over bikini underwear, and not once looks back -- it's a horrifyingly hilarious performance full of slapstick, cheap humor and about a hundred costume changes, each more outrageous than the next."

Why it matters: "Facifica Falayfay" was among Dolphy's highest-grossing films of all time. It also spawned several sequels, including "Fefita Fofongay vda de Falayfay."

Dolphy's recollection of the film: "Overwhelming ang box-office results ng 'Falayfay.' Top grosser na kami, na-extend pa ang showing, kahit tapos na ang festival, sa Rialto. Na-bad trip lang ako, dahil top grosser, bibigyan ka ng parangal. Kamala-mala mo, sabi no'ng babaeng judge -- huwag na lang banggitin ang pangalan -- sa mikropono ha, na talagang dinig ng lahat, huwag na raw ako uling gumawa ng gano'ng pelikula tungkol sa mga bakla," Dolphy recalled.

"Nagpanting ako. Hindi ko siya binastos nang harapan, at may edad na. Pagdating ko sa kotse, hinagis ko 'yung trophy, pinasosoli ko kay Mayor (Antonio) Villegas. Tinawagan ako ni Yeba -- expression niya 'yon kaya naging nickname na rin -- huwag na raw akong magtampo, tanggapin ko na lang daw uli ang trophy, alang-alang sa kanya."

6. Tayo'y Mag-Up and Away (1970)

What's it about: Dolphy's collaboration with Chaning Carlos continued with this entry to the 1970 Manila Film Festival, where it emerged as the top-grosser. The movie features his then-girlfriend Pilar Pilapil, Nida Blanca, Ricky Belmonte and Panchito.

Why it matters: Dolphy was among the first actors who would shoot movies in foreign locations. This one was filmed entirely in Rome, Paris, London, New York, Las Vegas and Hawaii.

Dolphy's recollection of the film: Shooting a scene in Rome, Dolphy and Belmonte were supposed to wash their underwear in a public fountain. The scene called for them to be arrested by the police.

"May kausap kaming dalawang mobile police, babayaran namin ng tifpi-50 dollars. Kunwari, huhulihin kami. E take two si direk Chaning," he recalled.

"Naku! Ibang pulis na'ng lumapit sa amin, hindi na 'yong naka-mobile, pinaka-kapitan na siguro. Si Ricky, takot na takot. Binubulungan ko na tumuloy-tuloy lang, kahit na ba hinuhuli kami, e talaga namang kailangan kaming hulihin sa eksena.

"Sa madaling salita, nakunan ang eksena. Kinumpiska and camera, pinabigay ko 'yong walang laman; ang nakunan, pinatago ko. Pina-claim sa amin ang camera sa estasyon ng pulis. ... Walang kamalay-malay si Kap na ang eksena niya ang ginamit namin sa final print ng sine."

7. John en Marsha (1971)

What's it about: With Nida Blanca as his wife and a young Maricel Soriano as his daughter, this sitcom followed the struggles of a poor man working hard for his family while enduring the contempt of his condescending mother-in-law (Dely Atay-atayan).

Why it matters: For many showbiz historians, Dolphy’s biggest triumph was this multi-awarded sitcom, which premiered in 1971 and ran for 15 successful years. It also spawned eight movies.

Dolphy's recollection of the TV show: "Sa ABS pa lang naisip na ni Ading (Fernando) na pagsamahin kami ni Nida (Blanca) sa TV. This was mga late '71, bago pa mag-Martial Law. Palagi niyang sinasabi na, Si Nida parang Dolphy na babae, bagay na bagay kayong dalawa," he said.

But when ABS-CBN was closed with the declaration of Martial Law, Dolphy's long-time collaborator Ading Fernando looked for another producer.

"Ang working title, parang something like 'Walang Tiyaga, Walang Nilaga.' Medyo nag-react ako. Para kakong sinauna pang title 'yon. Hanggang sa nakarating kami sa 'John en Marsha,'" he recalled. "Ang taas ng ratings! Maganda ang response sa lambingan namin ni Nida. Pati si Matutina, click. Lalo na ang punchline ni Dona Delilah G. Jones: 'Kaya ikaw John, magsumikap ka...'

8. Ang Tatay Kong Nanay (1978)

What's it about: Coring (Dolphy) is a cross-dressing gay man who is forced to raise Nonoy (played by Niño Muhlach) after the child was abandoned by his father to join the U.S. Navy. At first, he tries to hide his sexuality from the boy, who later discovers Coring in drag. Coring eventually agrees to give Nonoy back to his real mother but soon realizes his mistake -- during a gay beauty pageant, no less.

Why it matters: This highly-acclaimed film marked the rare dramatic collaboration between Dolphy and National Artist for Film Lino Brocka. It also featured then "child wonder" Niño Muhlach.

Dolphy's recollection of the film: "Kinausap ako ni Orlando Nadres ..."Dolphs, mayro'n akong istorya para sa iyo, talagang sa iyo lang babagay. Gusto ko, ikaw ang gumawa. Gustung-gusto rin 'to ni Lino Brocka.'"

"'So sige,' kako, 'basahin ko muna.' Aba, maganda nga. 'Sigurado ba kayo?' tanong ko. 'Drama 'to, iyakan, hindi comedy.'"

Dolphy, who had just won his first FAMAS Best Actor award for his dual role in "Omeng Satanasia" the year before, agreed to do the film.

"Hindi man ako nanalo for it no'ng bigayan uli ng awards next year, nakatrabaho ko si Lino na magaling talagang director."

9. Home Along Da Riles (1991)

What's it about: “Home Along Da Riles” revolves around an extended Filipino family living alongside the railroad tracks. Dolphy played the family breadwinner Kevin Cosme, who works as a messenger and janitor but dreams of working overseas. While the Cosmes are poor, they, like the Puruntongs, are happy, maintaining a positive outlook on life.

Why it matters: With his career in a slump after his breakup with Alma Moreno and news of his relationship with Zsa Zsa Padilla, Dolphy staged a major comeback with this ABS-CBN sitcom in 1991, which ran for 11 years until 2002.

Dolphy's recollection of the TV show: "Talagang very welcome ako sa ABS-CBN. Buhay pa si Geny, pero pa-advise-advise na lang siya; hindi na halos nakikialam sa network. ... Sabi ko, huwag nang ilapit sa John en Marsha dahil kung may-asawa uli ang role ko, parang magkakaro'n ng comparison. 'Imposibleng mapantayan 'yon,' kako," he said in his book.

It was Dolphy who suggested that his character should be a widower with children.

But because of his controversial image at the time, many expected the TV show to fail.

"No'ng mag-e-airing na kami, nag-umpisa na naman ang mga batikos. Kesyo bangkay na raw, ba't bubuhayin pa; kesyo ang nakalibing na, 'di na dapat hukayin," he said in his book.

"Dasal ako, one-on-one na naman ako with the Lord. First episode, No. 2 kami kaagad. Pinaka-overwhelming na rating namin, umabot sa halos 81%, dinaig pa ang Miss Universe. Sa madaling salita, gano'n kasikat! Natameme ang mga kalaban na writers."

10. Markova: Comfort Gay (2000)

What's it about: Based on a true story, “Markova: Comfort Gay,” is about the recollections of an aging Filipino homosexual who was forced to have sex with Japanese soldiers occupying Manila when he was working as a drag performer during World War II.

Why it matters: Dolphy won his first international award, when he and sons Eric and Jeffrey "Epy" Quizon shared the Best Perfomer award at the Brussels International Film Festival.

Dolphy's recollection of the film: "Katas na, kung baga, ang 'Markova' para sa akin. Maganda ang pelikula, kahit hindi pang-masa. Tuwang-tuwa ako no'ng nanalo si Epy ro'n ng award. But, of course, ang pinakamalaking kasiyahan ko ro'n, eh, nakasama ko'ng tatlong anak ko sa isang project na naiiba naman. Marami na akong nagawang movies with my other children pero karamihan do'n kasi comedy," Dolphy said.

"Sa 'Markova,' kontra-bida si Freddie; Epy, Eric and I played Markova at various ages of his life. Bihira ang gano'ng chance, and ang ganda nang ginawa para sa career ni Epy."

Dolphy Passed away

Dolphy was rushed to Makati Medical Center and placed in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) since June 9 because he was having a hard time breathing.

Dolphy set to leave ICU; family ecstatic

MANILA, Philippines - King of Comedy Dolphy may soon be released from the intensive care unit (ICU) at the Makati Medical Center (MMC), his son, Eric Quizon, said on Friday.

Quizon was all smiles on Friday as he announced the latest medical bulletin of the once-ailing veteran film actor.

He said his father may finally be released from the ICU on Monday or Tuesday next week after fighting for his life for almost three weeks.

"Baka ilipat na siya sa isang regular room. Like I said, it's all good news from now and of course the family's ecstatic about the developnmet," Quizon said.

The actor said Dolphy continues to make strides toward improvements in his health condition -- among them the lessening need for blood transfusions, and the improving functioning capacity of his kidneys.

"For the last two days there was no blood transfusions, so atleast nagi-improve 'yun. According to the doctors, there's no more bleeding, no more internal bleeding, which is good," he said.

"[His] kidney function has improved. From less than 10 percent, now the doctor says it's a little over 20 percent, which is a really big improvement."

Dolphy also continues to have regular sessions of dialysis, Quizon said. The sessions, however, may be put on hold over the weekend to see if the condition of Dolphy's kidneys will manage to improve even without administering dialysis.

"Hopefully itong weekend na 'to ipapahinga muna siya sa dialysis kasi it seems like yesterday hindi siya nag-dialysis, nagkaroon ng malaking improvement eh.'

"So of course, 'yung dialysis nakakatulong 'yan, pero 'yung gagawin nila ngayon itong weekend na 'to, off muna siya sa dialyusis. Titingnan natin kung ano 'yung magiging improvement ng kidney niya.'

"It's all positive from now, may output na. Even his stomach, his intestines are all doing well."

As his vital signs continue to improve day by day, Dolphy has also increasingly become lucid. He now communicates better with members of his family and even jokes with his children.

"He's very lucid. 'Dad, nakikita mo ba ako?' [He nods.] Hindi pa namin siya nadidinig, but he mouths. Nagsasalita siya, mina-mouth niya 'yung sinasabi niya, so kailangan namin klaruhin kung ano 'yung sinasabi niya," Quizon said.

Among Dolphy's most recent expressions, Quizon said, was of his desire to be discharged from the hospital and go home.

"Palaging sinasabi niya,'Uwi, uwi na tayo.' Gusto na niyang umuwi. Pero syempre, hindi pa namin pwede gawin 'yun dahil nga mino-monitor pa 'yung kundisyon niya," Quizon said.

After mouthing "I love you" to his long-time partner singer Zsa Zsa Padilla, Dolphy continues to interact with his family members, according to Quizon.

"Yesterday, for example, sabi ni Zsa Zsa, 'Lovey, kiss!' Talagang ngumuso siya, gumanon, ta's nag-kiss sila. Even my sisters ganun din, lahat sila humalik sa daddy ko," Quizon said.

"Kanina pala dumila, nag-lolokohan sila. Sabi niya doon sa mga nurse at mga sisters ko. Dumila siya. Nagagawa parin niyang magpatawa," Quizon added.

Quizon attributed his father's breakthroughs to the doctors attending to the veteran actor, as well as to the unceasing prayers for his recovery from his close friends and long-time supporters.

"Gaya nga ng sinabi ko lahat sa inyo, sinagot 'yung dasal ng pamilya namin at dasal ng lahat ng mga Pilipino at lahat ng mga nagmamahal sa kanya," Quizon said.

"We'd like to think it is a miracle."

Dolphy has developed pneumonia in both lungs, son says

MANILA, Philippines - Hours after telling media that the condition of his father had improved after dialysis, Eric Quizon on Friday evening said Comedy King Dolphy had developed pneumonia in both lungs - his 11th bout with the disease in 11 months.

Nonethless, Quizon said there was an improvement in Dolphy's hemoglabin count, which had increased. However, he said that the vetaran actor's platelet count was down.

Dolphy's family is hopeful that he will survive pneumonia as it was detected early, according to Quizon.

Dolphy, who will be turning 84 next month, is confined at the Makati Medical Center. Five years ago, he was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), an illness that results in breathing difficulty and worsens over time.

Quizon recently revealed that Dolphy's COPD had progressed to Stage IV.

"Five years ago, sinabihan na siya na stage four 'yong sakit niya na 'yon. When you say stage four in cancer terms, very critical na 'yon," Quizon said in an interview with a television program last June 20.

Most people suffering from COPD are smokers or used to smoke. About 600 million people worldwide suffer from COPD, according to the World Health Organization. COPD is the third leading cause of death in the United States, which has more than 12 million people diagnosed with the disease.

According to webMD.com, people with COPD suffer from other health problems such as:

1. COPD flare-ups , also called exacerbations, which are sudden increases in coughing, shortness of breath, and/or the amount or color of mucus you cough up.

2. More frequent lung infections, such as pneumonia.

3. An increased risk of thinning bones (osteoporosis), especially if you use oral corticosteroids.

4. Depression or anxiety. COPD may limit your ability to work and may reduce your independence, sexual activity, social activities, and self-esteem. This often causes depression. Having trouble breathing can make you feel very anxious.

5. Problems with weight. If chronic bronchitis is the main part of your COPD, you may need to lose weight. If emphysema is your main problem, you may need to gain weight and muscle mass.

6. Heart failure affecting the right side of the heart (cor pulmonale).

7. A collapsed lung (pneumothorax). COPD can damage the lung's structure and allow air to leak into the chest cavity.

8. Sleep problems because you are not getting enough oxygen into your lungs.

FVR sends well wishes to Dolphy

CALIFORNIA – Former president Fidel V. Ramos shared his thoughts and well wishes for the ailing King of Comedy, Dolphy.

“We hope that Dolphy will recover fast to receive his award because people are happy about that, as far as I’m concerned. And we go like this (jumps up and down) ‘Kunin mo, kunin mo! Baka hindi mo na kaya’,” said Ramos.

Ramos met with the San Diego Filipino community. The energetic ex-president is in California to raise funds for his campaign.

“Si Dolphy kaedad ko iyan. Pareho edad naming, 84,” he said.

Dolphy’s fans in the US are also praying for their idol. They said Dolphy made them happy for many years. They also hope that he would live longer to continue bringing happiness to people.

“Magaling siyang magpatawa. Number one. Wala naman makakaparis kay Dolphy. Iba siya,” Dolphy’s fan, Marissa Fernandez said.

Fernandez also joins the clamor to honor Dolphy with a national artist award.

“Malaki din ang kontribusyon niya sa industriya ng pelikula so dapat bigyan talaga siya ng acknowledgement,” she said.

She urged fans to continue praying for Dolphy’s good health.

“Maraming nagdarasal para kay Dolphy. Just keep praying and he’ll make it,” she added.

Dolphy thanks everyone for their prayers; Eric Quizon says he's responding to treatment 'very well'

Philippine entertainment legend Dolphy has been in the Makati Medical Center since Saturday undergoing treatment and observation for pneumonia, his son, actor-director Eric Quizon confirmed to News5. 'Currently his vital signs are all in order and he is responding to treatment very well,' Quizon said in a text message.

"My dad was sent to the hospital last Saturday because of pneumonia," Quizon said. "This made him weak because of his (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). They had to attach a respirator in order to help him breathe. Currently, his vital signs are all in order and he is responding to treatment very well."

TV5 head for creative and entertainment production Perci Intalan visited Dolphy at the hospital on Thursday afternoon. "His vitals are stable and he's got good color," Intalan said. "He was even awake when I saw him, and improving."

Quizon acknowledged that Dolphy is "still under close observation and round the clock intensive care to make sure he recovers fast."

"Thank you for your love and prayers," Quizon continued. "My Dad says 'Maraming salamat' from the bottom of his heart."

Dolphy comes out on 'Paparazzi,' says he's fine, thank you

MANILA, Philippines - Once again, the King of Comedy came out to say that rumors of his death are greatly exaggerated.

Dolphy appeared on “Paparazzi Showbiz Exposed” on Saturday to disprove rumors circulating in the media and social networking sites that he is in dire health, if not dead already.

“Ito po si Dolphy at hindi po ako double,” he quipped in an interview taped in his Parañaque home.

The 83-year-old comedian used the interview to thank his fans, especially those who continue to watch his Sunday afternoon show on TV5, “Pidol’s Wonderland.”

“Gusto ko pong magpasalamat sa inyo. Gustong-gusto ko kayong makapiling pero nagpapalakas pa ako ngayon. Huwag kayong mag-alala, magkikita-kita pa tayo. [I want to thank all of you. I really want to be with you but for now I’m just regaining my strength. Don’t worry, we’ll see each other again soon] Mwah!” he said.

Singer-actress Zsa Zsa Padilla, his companion for two decades, said taking care of Dolphy has galvanized their family. “Everything that has happened to our family just brought us closer to each other. We’re tight now,” she said.

Zsa Zsa said their home is open to everyone among Dolphy’s children by other women who want to visit and cheer up their old man.

Since he came home from a recent hospitalization, she has hardly left his side.

“I’m just doing my job. Our relationship is tested, and we’ve been through a lot. And I know that if the same thing would happen to me, he would also do it for me,” she said.

One of Dolphy’s older children, TV5 director Eric Quizon, also expressed his gratitude to friends and fans who have prayed for his father’s good health.

“Talagang down ang immune system niya ngayon. Saka let’s face it, Mang Dolphy is 83 years old turning 84 in July 25.

“With his condition, we cannot expect him to be like Wendell Ramos or Diether Ocampo. Hindi nga ako makadalaw kasi kung may sipon or ubo ako, siyempre madaling mahahawa ang pasyente.

“Kaya nga minsan naka-mask din ‘yung mga dumadalaw sa kanya.

Zsa Zsa Padilla turns emotional over Dolphy's health condition

MANILA, Philippines - Singer Zsa Zsa Padilla shed tears when asked about her partner Dolphy’s health condition.

“Sa gitna ng saya sa sa tagumpay ng ‘Budoy’ [ay] ‘di mapigilang maluha ng gumaganap na ina ni Gerald (Anderson) sa serye na si Zsa Zsa Padilla. Apektado si Zsa Zsa sa kondisyon ni Comedy King Dolphy,” the report said on “TV Patrol,” Feb. 28.

“Hindi n’yo lang alam, on a personal level I’m not strong,” Zsa Zsa quipped, on the verge of tears.

“Ayaw na niyang idetalye pa ang kondisyong medical ng partner. Pero kailangan niyang magpakatatag at maging lakas ni Pidol,” the report added.

“I never show fear ‘coz in my home nobody can panic. Parang, ‘O sige mag-panic kayong lahat puwera lang ako.’ ‘Yun ang rule namin, eh, ‘coz I have to think straight.”

“Higit sa lahat kailangan niya ng tibay ng loob para sa mga anak nila ni Pidol,” the report noted.

In a report posted on the same day on abs-cbnnews.com, Zsa Zsa admitted that the ace comedian is far from healthy.

“Siguro kahit paano you'd been hearing rumors, the past years have been very difficult with my family. Alam naman nila na si Dolphy, aside from being 83-years-old, he's not in the pink of health," Zsa Zsa was quoted to have said.

The singer was grateful for the considerations afforded to her by her “Budoy” co-stars.

"And a lot of times ay naging very considerate ‘di lang ang mga co-stars ko kung hindi pati ang mga director at staff namin. Manggagaling ako sa ospital [and then] diretso ako sa set. Ganoon ang buhay ko. So, naramdaman ko ang alaga at pag-aalaga,” the singer shared.

While the comedian is already home, “he's hanging in there.”

“He's in good spirit and we do our best to take care of him," Zsa Zsa related.

She was made to comment on reports that her partner for more than two decades has been in and out of the hospital lately.

The singer said that this could not be avoided as “83 na siya.”

“Kumbaga, kung dumating man ang panahon ay idi-discuss natin 'yon.”

Zsa Zsa refused to dwell more about Dolphy’s medical condition, as “I don’t think I’m in the position to discuss that right now,” she said.

“Maybe in another time if the whole family is ready. Kasi I don’t want to be the only one to be saying things regarding his health.”

Aware that there are people who think she’s just after the comedian’s money, Zsa Zsa felt the need to explain her side on this matter.

“Ang daming nagsabi na, ‘O, tuloy na ang pangarap niya, talagang pera lang 'yan, blah blah,’” she said, admitting it was “masakit sa akin.”

She explained that this was not the case really “because all my life I’ve been working and the few instances na hindi ako nagtrabaho, siguro nagbuntis lang ako tapos I went back to work.”

This continuing mindset of some people hurt the singer.

“Kahit paano affected ako, aaminin ko, na iniisip sa akin ng tao 'yung ganoon. Sa tagal ng pagsasama namin ay nabibigyan pa rin ng malisya at sasabihing ‘pera lang yan.’ So I just wanted to prove that (it’s wrong).”

To avoid further complications in their relationship, “we found it best na huwag na lang [magpasakal].”

The couple believed that there is no need for them to tie the knot as “kumbaga tayo pa din naman. Nothing has changed and I’m still here, I’m still supporting you 100% at ganoon pa din siya. Emotionally binibigay niya ang best niya [at] wala na akong mahihiling pa.”
