TV5 confirms dropping Willie Revillame's show
MANILA -- Executives of TV5 have confirmed an earlier announcement of TV host Willie Revillame that his noontime program will go off-air in October after a six-month run.
During a recent press conference announcing the network's line-up of new programs, TV5 President Noel Lorenzana and Chief Entertainment Content Officer Wilma Galvante were asked as to what's ahead for Revillame's "Wowowillie."
Lorenzana confirmed that the show is indeed ending next month, as quoted by entertainment news site Yahoo! OMG in a report published Thursday.
He added that the TV host's contract will no longer be renewed. "If Willie comes back, it will be under new circumstances, a new format, and that's a big if," Lorenzana said.
Various iterations of Revillame's variety programs, dating back to "Wowowee" as it aired on ABS-CBN from 2005 to 2010, have been fraught with controversies.
The 2010 primetime program "Willing Willie," Revillame's first show on TV5, was accused of child abuse when a 6-year-old contestant was supposedly made to perform as a "macho dancer."
The controversy, which involved advertisers pulling out from the show, prompted Revillame to announce it would go on hiatus. A month later, it resumed as the reformatted "Wiltime Bigtime."
Yet another revamp as "Wowowillie" marked the program's transfer to a noontime slot in January this year. The show once again drew controversy, however, when Revillame went on an on-air tirade against co-host Ethel Booba for allegedly disrespecting him.
Dared by Revillame to resign from his show, Ethel Booba never returned as a co-host on "Wowowillie."
On the same program in May, Revillame announced his plans to retire, saying "Wowowillie" will air its last episode on October 12.
"Alam ninyo, may mga personal na rason na hindi ko na sasabihin sa inyo. Ako muna'y magpapahinga ng ilang buwan, ng isang taon o anuman...Tatapusin ko na lang po ang kontrata ko sa TV5," he said.

Willie Revillame to end contract with TV5
MANILA – Television host Willie Revillame is reportedly not renewing his contract with the No. 3 network TV5 when it expires in October.
According to entertainment website Pep.ph, the TV host made the announcement during his noontime show “Wowowillie” on Tuesday.
With his contract set to expire on October 15, Revillame said: “Maybe October 12 will be the last show ng Wowowillie.”
Revillame said he made the declaration to finally put an end to speculations about his future plans. He also added he was the one who personally wrote a letter to TV5 chairman Manny V. Pangilinan.
“Anyway, tingnan po natin, baka may pagkakataon ay magkita-kita pa rin tayo. Yun lang po para matapos na ang haka-haka. Ako ay sumulat na sa pamunuan ng TV5, ako po ay nagpaalam na—May 17. Actually po, sinagot na nila ako na I think tinatanggap nila 'yung aking pagpapaalam sa TV5. Para wala nang news, basta po tatapusin ko ang kontrata ko hanggang October," he said.
The controversial host, however, hinted that he will possibly appear on another show in the future.
“Kapag may nagsara na bintana, may magbubukas na pintuan. Basta mag-e-enjoy pa rin tayo,” he said.
Last month, ABS-CBN president and chief executive officer Charo Santos-Concio denied rumors that Revillame will return to the Kapamilya network.
"That's not true. We're not in talks with Willie Revillame. We're very happy with the ratings of '[It's] Showtime.' We're very happy with 'Showtime,'" she said in a press conference.
Revillame left ABS-CBN in 2010.

Marvelous stumbles in intense Live Exam on ‘Artista Academy’

Intensity was the order of the day for the fourth Live Exam of “Artista Academy” as the remaining 13 scholars raised their game. In a show with the theme “Intense”, most of them students lived up to the name.
Marvelous Alejo, however, found out the hard way that missing a crucial exam date can have dire consequences. Although she managed to escape expulsion last Monday, Principal Wilma Galvante nonetheless ordered her to do a make-up exam, which means she had to perform in both the dancing and acting competitions for this week.
The double preparation seemed to take its toll on Marvelous as the critics were not impressed with her showing in both categories.
While director Mac Alejandre complimented her overall impact in the dancing round, all four critics (Galvante, Alejandre, Lorna Tolentino and Gelli De Belen) were unanimous in saying that her performance was simply not so marvelous in the acting department.
By the end of the show, the 16-year old Valenzuela native was joined in the bottom three by Benjo Leoncio, who didn’t fare so well himself in the dancing segment, and Brent Manzano, which was quite a surprise considering that he wasn’t singled out by any critic in the acting showdown.
On the opposite end of the spectrum, Vin Abrenica, Sophie Albert, Chanel Morales continued to live up to their frontrunner status as they consistently topped their respective categories.
Although Vin was cited as the overall Top Performer in the dancing and singing categories, the critics noted that his acoustic performance of Adele’s “Someone Like You” was somewhat lackluster and the only reason he got the highest grade there is that he was still better than his singing competitors Mark Neumann, Shaira Mae and Akihiro Blanco.
Knowing that he’s no Justin Bieber, Mark tried to make up for his lack of singing abilities by adding some dancing to his overall performance of Bieber’s “Baby” and managed to impress LT, Gelli and Principal Wilma.
Akihiro, who excelled in the acting face-off last week, failed to maintain his momentum as the female critics all called him out for his uninspired singing this week.
For the third week in a row, Sophie was once again a standout in the dancing competition even as she was also given a recognition as the overall Top Performer in the acting category.
Alberto Bruno was also cited for his dancing as Direk Mac noted how hard he has been working on his craft.
And critics’ darling Chanel Morales was particularly impressive in the acting derby as all competitors, including Marvelous, Brent, Malak So Shdifat and Stephanie Rowe, had to play characters with dual or multiple personalities and interact with other actors in their sets.
In a suspense thriller-themed contest, Chanel delivered the goods with her performance of a mental patient possessed by an evil spirit. Malak and Stephanie were also cited by their convincing portrayals as well.
While there was very little by way of surprises and the scholars brought their A-game to the Live Exam, it was also clear that they showed more confidence and seemed more relaxed on stage.
Getting more public exposure may have something to do with that as the scholars also graced the premiere of “I Do Bidoo Bidoo (Heto nAPO Sila)” to which they paid tribute in their opening number and a special screening of “Bwakaw,” both at SM Megamall.
In any case, fans still need to vote to keep their favorite scholars from being kicked out in another expulsion night this coming Monday. To vote for you favorite “Artista Academy” students and save them from elimination, text AA space (name of student) and send to 5656.
Hosted by Cesar Montano, Marvin Agustin and Valeen Montenegro, “Artista Academy” airs on TV5 every Monday to Friday at 9PM and every Saturdays at 9:30PM.

Appearing on T3, MMDA's Fabros, 6 daughters get cash, gifts, scholarship

MANILA, Philippines - Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic enforcer Saturnino Fabros, who shot to fame for stoically absorbing physical and verbal abuse from a road-rage-stricken motorist, is finding out how much sympathy he and his family have gotten from the public.
Besides the torrent of comments---often abusive as well—condemning his aggressor Robert Blair Carabuena and showing sympathy for him, Fabros is the beneficiary of a fund raiser by concerned citizens, notably TV5 host Arnell Ignacio.
On T3 on Friday afternoon, Ignacio presented Fabros a check for P50,000, representing the proceeds from the fund raiser that the TV host started shortly after learning of the lowly government employee’s dire situation.
The US-based VOC Foundation offered a scholarship to one of Fabros’s six children, it was announced at the show.
Also at T3, the hosts announced that Fabros will also receive a sack of rice, a gift certificate and two cabinets.
One of his daughters thanked TV5 and T3, which had first aired Fabros’s story and the video taken by TV5 producers who happened to be at the scene when Robert Blair Carabuena repeatedly struck and cursed Fabros, who cited him for ignoring the traffic enforcer’s order to halt at the intersection of Tandang Sora and Capitol Hills in Quezon City.
Carabuena’s father explained that Fabros had provoked the outburst by repeatedly hitting the family’s Volvo S-60.
Before appearing at T3 on Friday, Fabros, a single father, and his six daughters, who were seen with him in their Payatas hovel in a video profile at InterAksyon.com, visited the InterAksyon office on Friday afternoon.
Fabros, despite a full-time job that earns him just P8,000 a month, stands as both mother and father to his daughters---Jorraine, Julianne, Janica, Joanna, Jennifer and Jusan---after his wife died. With Tricia Aquino, InterAksyon.com

Pregnant at 40, Amy Perez takes 1-year leave from ‘Face-to-Face’

Maybe life does begin at 40 after all. For Amy Perez, it is certainly the time of her life when blessings come in abundance.
Career-wise, things have never been better. While Amy is already a household name thanks to her memorable stints in such TV shows as “Palibhasa Lalake,” “Sang Linggo nAPO Sila” and “Magandang Tanghali Bayan,” it wasn’t until she landed the hosting gig for TV5’s “Face To Face” that she truly endeared herself to the masses who now refer to her as simply T’yang Amy.
It also did not hurt that she landed the well-loved character role of Ina Magenta on the huge “Enteng Kabisote” MMFF franchise of Vic Sotto and will be playing the role once again for the third time in a row.
On the personal front, her relationship with radio host Carlo Castillo continues to blossom even as she had to endure a temporary setback when the Supreme Court denied her petition for the annulment of her marriage with estranged husband Brix Ferraris.
Be that as it may, Amy and Carlo have already been blessed with a three-year old son and will soon be joined by another new member of their growing family. She is three months pregnant, she announced in a media conference on Thursday.
“I’ve come to a point that I feel so blessed because God has given me a great family and career. I just can’t thank Him more for another blessing. I pray that it’s a girl para hindi na ko outnumbered ng boys sa family,” Amy said in reference to Carlo, their son, Sean Kyle and Adi, her 15-year old son from her union with Brix.
Amy’s date with the stork, however, is not without its trade-offs and per advice of her doctors, she has to temporarily bid adieu to “Face To Face”, the top-rated morning reality show dubbed “Barangay Hall on Air”.
She will soon hand over her Barangay Kapitana duties to Gelli De Belen, at least for one year.
“I have to heed the advice of my doctor who said that at my age, delikado na ang magbuntis so kailangang magbawas ng konting trabaho. Kahit sa bahay nga, I cannot carry my three year old so hindi rin ako pwedeng mag-ganun,” she revealed.
Amy is quick to qualify that she informed TV5 of her personal plans way ahead of her pregnancy. But she admits that she is still saddened by her temporary departure from the show that has meant so much to her for the last two years of its well-received run.
“It’s never easy leaving something that has become a big part of your life, even if only temporarily,” she lamented. “But at the same time, I’m glad that the show is in good hands as I believe Gelli is more than up to the challenges.”
And by challenges, Amy may be referring to all the slapping, hair-pulling, chair-throwing, and exchanging of profanities between the disputing parties who can’t settle their differences on their respective barangays.
“Being a referee on the show is no easy task,” Amy admitted. “It requires patience, a deep understanding of everyday people and genuine care to resolve their conflict.”
Gelli agrees. “Actually, I thought a lot about that before I accepted this,” she confessed. “But in the end, I think it’s something I can handle. Carry na rin.”
Even as she is no slouch when it comes to hosting, Gelli still has big shoes to fill. Amy is such a steadying presence on “Face To Face” that in addition to keeping the peace between the protagonists, she also balances the so-called “sawsaweros” and “sawsaweras” (the partisan studio audience) even as she deftly solicits the opinions of the show’s Trio Tagapayos who provide the spiritual, psychological and legal advice on the show.
With regards to her own legal matters, Amy said that with the denial of her annulment, she is just waiting for the passing of the divorce bill in the country.
“Ang nangyari po kasi talaga, eh, na-technical kami sa lower court, hanggang sa na-appeal siya several times sa higher courts pero na-deny pa rin,” she revealed.
“So right now, ipinapahanap ko po talaga si Brix kasi I heard he’s abroad so if he’s there at nakapag-asawa na siya ng iba, most likely, citizen na rin siya. I just need the divorce papers because we’re now at a point na it’s either siya o ako ang magpalit ng citizenship para isa sa amin makapag-divorce sa kung sino.”
And if the divorce bill does become law here in the Philippines?
“Siguro ako ang unang taong magiging masayang-masaya. Baka ako magpapiyesta ng ilang barangay at lahat ng mahihirap na hindi ma-afford ang annulment sasagutin ko para maging masaya na rin sila sa buhay,” she declared.

With TV5 transfer, Daniel Matsunaga’s heart finds a good place

Rumor has it that TV5 chairman Manny V. Pangilinan saw Daniel Matsunaga crying in a TV interview after the latter’s breakup with Heart Evangelista and took pity on him. That supposedly is how the Brazilian-Japanese hunk became a talent of TV5.
Daniel speaks candidly about the matter: “Naawa sa akin? Iyak? I think the iyak part happened a long time ago na. And hindi naman ‘yun iyak. I cried nga like you said, balde-balde pa, pero sa Brazil na ‘yun. So kung umiyak man ako o hindi, whether nakita ako or hindi, ang importante po, I am happy now dahil I was given this opportunity.”
When he went home to Brazil back in March, Daniel knew his relationship with Heart, which they had confirmed to the public back in September 2010, was over.
“I really needed that time to be with my family,” he recalls. “One month po ako doon. Talagang I relaxed lang. Went to church. And tried to live a calm life.”
He admits the breakup tormented him then.
“Marami rin po akong iniyak, eh. My parents loved Heart naman po. They had the chance to meet her. But why it came to a breakup, hindi namin talaga alam. If she said it was about cultural differences, let’s respect that. Ang importante po, now mahal ko siya as a person. Mabait siya and I learned a lot from her.”
He is aware of the talk that Heart’s parents did not approve of him.
“I did my best to be close to them, to all of them. The whole family. After that one month in Brazil, where nag-break na kami, when I came back, nag-usap pa rin kami. And mahaba po. So, maybe the reason also why ngayon I can say na we’re still friends and we communicate pa every now and then.”
Three months later, the rumor mill says Heart has a new boyfriend in Senator Chiz Escudero, and Daniel is said to be dating Glaiza de Castro.
“Me and Glaiza, nagkasama kami po sa ‘Grazilda’ kaya I greet her sa Twitter, ganoon. Pero hindi kami. About Heart and Senator Chiz, narinig ko naman po. Hindi ko alam kung totoo. Masaya ako sa buhay niya. Kung gusto na niya ibang love life, I’m supporting her naman.”
So has he given up on the chance of a reconciliation with Heart? “Single ako now. Am not closing my doors. But for now, I want to spend my days working lang,” he says.
And if work is the best cure for a broken heart, his transfer to TV5 is just what the doctor ordered.
Daniel is part of the new Sunday noontime game show “Game ‘N’ Go”, which premiered last June 17, and will be in the all-star cast of the upcoming fantasy series “Enchanted Garden.” He will also be featured in the horror anthology “Third Eye”.
“There’s two ways ng pag-move on ko,” he says. “One for my work. The other one for my personal life. Now I have decided to be single for a while. Kaya focus sa trabaho. Kaya I’m polishing my Tagalog. Tutor every day for two hours. There’s acting, hosting, singing, guitar playing workshops. Six hours at least so there’s time rin for other things. And 3-4 hours in the gym.”
He’s proud of the fact that his Tagalog is improving with every sentence.
“Dati kasi I had a teacher once a week. And tamad ako to learn. Twenty lessons lang nagawa ko. Now, mas okay kasi, even in written and sa pagsasalita, marunong na ako. I can understand now. Kaya, pwede na rin ako makagawa ng love notes. Sa tweets ko, hindi ako madalas magTagalog kasi may fans din ako all over the world. But I mix both.”
His resolve to learn the language is proof of how much he loves the Philippines, the state of his heart notwithstanding.
In fact, he wants to settle down here, just like his sister, the model Vanessa Matsunaga-Sunga, who married a Filipino.
“I just fell in love here. May pamilya ako rito. My sister is here and married to a Filipino. And I think, that’s one of my goals. God sent me here,” he intones.
Before moving to Manila three years ago, Daniel had been based in Hongkong for almost seven years.
“I’ve been in so many countries na rin. More than twenty. And a lot of opportunities have been presented to me. Sa Hong Kong, I was stable na. But God spoke to us. And I obeyed. That’s the reason now why I am planning to stay here. To bring my family here and my other siblings. And just for the record po, I don’t have plans yet to get married. Not anymore po.
“My future will depend on a lot of things pa. And it is not in my plan to marry and use that as a reason for me to acquire the citizenship. Now I’m just happy that I was granted a guaranteed deal in being a Kapatid for two years, and I can still work with all the networks. That is if they also want to hire me and give me a show. I carry a working permit renewable every three years. And it looks like everything is really happening very fast.”
Now that he’s a certified Kapatid, is there anybody he wants to be paired with?
“Sharon Cuneta! Maybe in an action-drama movie. But in ‘Enchanted Garden’ I will be part of the triangle with Alex Gonzaga and Martin Escudero.”
His heart may not be fully healed yet, but Daniel is positive that he is moving in the right direction.
“Kung walang heart, walang buhay. Kailangan ko ang puso ko. You gain and you share. Now, I am just starting to know a little bit of everything. And I think I am taking the right path.”

Rufa Mae Quinto leaves ‘Wil Time Bigtime’ – Cristy Fermin

Rufa Mae Quinto has left “Wil Time Bigtime” after only five weeks as a co-host, Cristy Fermin reported on “Paparazzi Showbiz Exposed” on Saturday.
Cristy said the sexy comedienne, who moved to TV5 after her contract with GMA expired in April, was no longer a part of Willie Revillame’s primetime game show starting Friday.
The “Paparazzi” co-host suggested two possible reasons for Rufa Mae’s abrupt departure: the production deemed the talent fee she was demanding too high and she did not consider the show her top priority.
Neither Rufa Mae, who joined the nightly program on May 7, nor the producers of “Wil Time” have issued an official statement about the matter.
She was not part of the delegation that performed in Los Angeles and San Francisco recently as part of The Big Launch of TV5 International in the US.
Willie only brought co-hosts Mariel Rodriguez and Camille Villar with him.

OPINION: T3 and Free Expression

"If the press is not free, if speech is not independent and untrammeled, if the mind is shackled or made impotent through fear, it makes no difference under what form of government you live, you are a subject and not a citizen." - William E. Borah
In 2005, the Supreme Court decided the case of MTRCB vs. ABS-CBN. It said that freedom of expression and the press "has no preferred status" under the Constitution. In an earlier 1985 case, Far Eastern Broadcasting vs. Dans Jr., the Supreme Court said that "freedom of broadcast media is lesser in scope than the press because of their pervasive presence in the lives of all Filipinos." Notwithstanding this, however, the Supreme Court still emphasized that
All forms of media, whether print or broadcast, are entitled to the broad protection of the freedom of speech and expression clause. The test for limitations on freedom of expression continues to be the clear and present danger rule - that words are used in such circumstances and are of such a nature as to create a clear and present danger that they will bring about the substantive evils that the lawmaker has a right to prevent. (Far Eastern Broadcasting vs. Dans Jr. 137 SCRA 628)
One of the greatest protections of freedom of speech is the prohibition against prior restraint. This means "official governmental restriction on the press or other forms of expression in advance of actual publication or dissemination." (Bernas, The 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines, 2009 edition Page 232).
The exceptions, when expression may be subject to prior restraint, apply in this jurisdiction to only four categories of expression, namely: pornography, false or misleading advertisement, advocacy of imminent lawless action, and danger to national security. All other expression is not subject to prior restraint. (Concurring opinion of Justice Carpio in Chavez vs. Gonzales G.R. No. 168338 February 15, 2008)
In a more recent 2009 case, Soriano vs. La Guardia et al, the Supreme Court said that there can be other exceptions if compelling circumstances warrant. In the Soriano case, a program classified as "for general patronage" aired at a time accessible to viewing children and anchored by a host using foul language, was meted out a preventive suspension by the MTRCB. This was considered allowable "prior restraint" as the "balancing of interest" tilts in favor of the interest of the children not to be exposed to foul and belligerent language. Ultimately however, the Supreme Court simply meted out penalties for the host but did not maintain the suspension of the show.
Recently, the hit TV5 show "T3" hosted by the three Tulfo brothers was meted out a preventive suspension order by the MTRCB for a period of 20 days. The preventive suspension had already prevented the airing of the show. It had already effectively curtailed TV5's, the show's producers' and creators' right to express their thoughts and advocacy as reflected by what has officially been done in the show.
Whether one uses the clear-and–present-danger rule or the balancing-of-interest rule, the special circumstances of this case must still be resolved in favor of freedom of speech.
The objective of the show is obviously one of public service and news. It is not pornography and does not involve false and misleading advertisement. Neither does it endanger national security nor advocate imminent lawless action. Arguably, while the anchors who were suspended by TV5 may have uttered "threatening" statements in a matter of about 4 minutes in a 30 minute-show (directed not to the general public but to two individuals), their utterances do not reflect the advocacy of the show itself, which is designed to help and assist the needy especially against abusive or negligent government officials.
There is clearly no imminent danger of substantive evil that will affect the State should "T3" be allowed to continue. And this became very evident from the fact that, after the anchors' suspension by TV5 management, temporary hosts were made to fill their places. As usual, the show went through with its public service advocacy. It did not endanger the State.
Indeed, the show hosted by the alternate-anchors even aided the State in its program of providing justice for all. The show was able to have a public official, who had been withholding the release of another public official's salary, commit such release to the aggrieved party. Also, the show was instrumental in advising the mother of a murdered rape victim on their remedial actions. The clear-and-present danger rule evidently is not applicable to justify the preventive suspension order issued the MTRCB against the showing of "T3".
The balancing-of-interest-rule likewise is of no help to curtail the constitutional right of expression in this instance. This test mandates that the conflicting rights and obligations “are to be judged in the concrete, not on the basis of abstractions." (Soriano vs. La Guardia et al). Important factors have to be importantly considered in weighing the conflicting rights. One of these is "whether the necessary safeguarding of the public interest involved may be achieved by some other measure less restrictive of the protected freedom." (Soriano)
These are the concrete facts. "T3" is a show approved by the MTRCB. Its advocacy is to provide news and also public service. It is rated not for general patronage but for strict parental guidance. It is aired 5:15 in the afternoon. Its lasts 30 minutes. The show has actually helped needy people. The Mon Tulfo incident occurred at the airport. Video showed his mauling. Thereafter the three Tulfo brothers saw the video and, for more or less four minutes they made remarks that seem to suggest retaliation. TV5 promptly suspended the three Tulfo brothers. And three temporary anchors were placed in their stead and continued the advocacy of the program. Then MTRCB called a conference and, thereafter on the same day, promptly issued the preventive suspension order for 20 days.
Just what contending and compelling public interest overrides freedom of the press or expression in this "T3" case is not clear. At the most, any "public interest" here is an abstraction or a general concept of some kind of public good. This is not enough when allowable infringement of constitutional rights is the issue. It must be judged in the concrete. Moreover, is there "some other measure less restrictive of the protected freedom" that will adequately safeguard this undefined "public interest" which MTRCB should or must have found? Or, considering the imposition immediately after the meeting, was there any determination at all of this "public interest"? The excessiveness of the the 20-day preventive suspension highlights the arbitrariness of the preventive-suspension order.
The news-and public-affairs advocacy of "T3" which have helped a lot of needy people should have been distinguished from the particular and personal motive of the three-Tulfo brothers regarding a private matter which, unfortunately, manifested on TV. Should the fate of T3 as a show with a clear and unmistakable mission be made equivalent to the motives of the erring anchors? Surely it should not. And if this is so, then it is clear that the penalty for the anchors cannot be the penalty for the show.
As a lawyer and professor of law, I have always been suspect of any act infringing upon our freedom of speech on the ostensible excuse of saving some general good. When the issue is about freedom of speech, the presumption must always be in favor of its expression and against censorship or any of its forms and nuances.
What makes T3's preventive suspension more frightening is the fact that the curtailing-decision was, in reality, made by men and women who are equally fallible like any of us. I am not saying that they are not qualified as MTRCB members. Perhaps they are. Their motivation may even be in good faith. But having been given a mandate to "monitor" speech, they must be discerning enough to know that they must be patriotic enablers of speech and not its censors.
For the MTRCB to immediately prevent "T3" from airing, despite the very clear detectible root of the problem which is separable from the advocacy of T3 as a platform-program, is to effectively control free thought, speech and expression arbitrarily.
Commendable therefore is the decision of TV5 President Atty. Ray Espinosa and TV5 News/Current Affairs Chief Luchi Cruz Valdes to question what appears to be a grave abuse of power by the MTRCB.
Finally, let me quote former US Associate Justice William Douglas:
"What we must remember, however, is that preservation of liberties does not depend on motives. A suppression of liberty has the same effect whether the suppressor be a reformer or an outlaw. The only protection against misguided zeal is constant alertness to infractions of the guarantees of liberty contained in our Constitution. Each surrender of liberty to the demands of the moment makes easier another, larger surrender..."

Lourd de Veyra's graduation speech for UP MassComm Batch 2012

First time akong makaka-attend ng graduation ng college. Hindi rin ako naka-graduate on time.
Maraming salamat ulit.

TV5 ladies' man Kean on good terms with exes Alex, Danita, Arci

MANILA, Philippines – Actor-singer Kean Cipriano may be regarded as the resident ladies’ man of TV5. Three of the Kapatid Network’s lovely leading ladies - Alex Gonzaga, Danita Paner and Arci Munoz – have been his girlfriends.
But, he insists, he’s no playboy. The Calla Lily vocalist insists, “Hindi ako babaero. Nagmamahal lang.”
Kean smiled when asked about the seemingly aborted relationship with Alex Gonzaga. It’s been said that even if they worked together on the TV remake of “P.S. I Love You,” the old feelings just aren’t there anymore.
“We shared some things together that no one’s ever gonna know. Kumbaga, things happen. And we’re very much okay now.
“I’m happy that we got stronger. I mean, as friends.”
Alex has lately been teased about being on good terms with Cris Tiu, her co-star in “Toink” at TV5.
Does Kean feel jealous, especially on hearing that Alex has admitted having had a crush on Cris before? “Wala naman akong kailangang pagselosan, e.”
What’s stopping him from winning Alex back? “Nothing. I don’t know. You know me, I don’t talk much.”
Is there someone else? “Ako kasi in love na in love ako sa music ngayon. Do’n ako nakatutok right now. Kasi magri-release kami (Calla Lily) ng bagong album.
“So I’m putting myself there in that zone where whatever happens, I’d be inspired by myself.”
Does he have regrets that the special relationship with Alex was nipped in the bud? “Ang importante, kami ni Alex okey kami ngayon,” is the cryptic reply.
Asked to comment on impressions that he’s a playboy or someone who can never take a relationship seriously, he replies: “Hindi naman siguro… ako, I refuse to take that. Kasi hindi naman ako babaero, e.
“Napagbibintangan lang, e!” Kean laughs out loud.
“Kumbaga hindi rin naman biro magmahal, e. Baduy na kung baduy. Cheesy na kung cheesy. Pero…hindi naman biro magmahal.
“Kasi ibibigay mo ang sarili mo do’n, e. Di ba? Ang totoong lalake, marunong magmahal.”
Unfortunately, he adds philosophically, “when it doesn’t work out, there’s nothing you can do.”
Was this the case with Alex? That he loved well and gave everything of himself?
“Hindi naman!” he laughs again.Ilang percent lang ng sarili niya ang ibinigay niya kay Alex? “Hindi ko alam!” replies Kean.
“I don’t wanna gauge. You know how it is? Ayoko ng gano’n. So lahat sila (na naugnay sa kanya), kapag nakikita ko masaya kami.
“Si Danita (Paner na naging girlfriend din niya), nakita ko kanina sa Robinson’s Galleria. Nagkuwentuhan kami. Kumustahan kami. Alam mo ‘yon?
“I’m just happy we shared something together,” he adds, referring to the women in his life.
“And I’m happy. I learned a lot. And I love them. I still love them as…you know.” Kean shrugs his shoulders.
He and Danita are unattached these days. “She looks happy. I think she’s doing something now with TV5. So I’m happy for her.”
Will he be ready to work with Danita if there’s an opportunity? Or with Arci Munoz?
“Why not? Yeah! If the project is right, and it fits my schedule, why not?”
Then adds: “Kung mahulog lahat sa lap ko… game!”
What if there’s a project with all three as his leading ladies--Danita, Arci, Alex?
“Wow!” is his short reply.
Kean may not have won in the Breakthrough Performance By An Actor category in the Golden Screen Awards of the Entertainment Press Society, but he says he’s happy enough being nominated for his role in “Ang Babae Sa Septic Tank.”
It’s his first nomination as an actor, he notes, and “Nakakatuwa na nanu-notice ako sa pagsabak ko na rin sa acting. I think I’m just very blessed to have a good management, a good family, a good circle of friends.
“Parang ang ganda lang ng balik sa lahat ng ginagawa ko. I appreciate everything that’s been happening,” he concludes.

TV5's Batibot a finalist in prestigious Prix Jeunesse International Festival 2012

MANILA, Philippines - Batibot, the well-loved all-Filipino children’s program, is back in the international scene as a finalist in the prestigious Prix Jeunesse International Festival 2012.
The highest-rating children’s program was chosen as one of the finalists for the “Up to 6 years old Non-fiction” category and is set to compete with 11 other entries from European, North and Latin American and Asian countries (Japan and India) in this 25th festival Jubilee from June 1-6 in Munich, Germany.
Festival Coordinator Kirsten Schneid wrote Batibot’s producer, “Prix Jeunesse International 2012 received a record number of entries. It also makes me really happy that Batibot’s next generation is in the finals! The pre-selection was so tough, out of 353 only 86 programmes made it to the final round. You and your team can be really proud!”
TV5’s Batibot’s entry is an episode on “Art Around us: Shapes and Lines” and features basic concepts that help very young children make sense of their world: arts as well as relationships (friendship), simple basic concepts: shapes, colors, puzzles.

Batibot’s themes, stories, visual and sounds focus on the essentials of living, growing and learning in a world that is both enriched and challenged by the human and cultural diversity that exists in the Philippines and the bigger world.

Batibot continues its mission of providing the most valuable and the most innovative content for kids to watch and enjoy. Watch TV5’s Batibot weekdays at 9:30am and every Saturday at 8:30am.

Nora Aunor returns Friday

"I think walang operation or surgery na nangyari. Theraphy lang yata ang ginawa sa kanya sa Boston.
"Sana nga, makuha sa theraphy para hindi na dumaan sa operation. We're really hoping na makuha sa theraphy.
"Mukha namang may improvement, malalaman natin mismo pagdating niya bukas.
"May naka-line up na teleserye at movie. Kung sinu-sino ang mga artistang makakasama niya, idi-discuss pa namin sa TV5," pagtatapos ni Boy, manager ni Nora.

Sharon to star in new TV5 show; addresses 'haters'
MANILA, Philippines – Megastar Sharon Cuneta is set to make a TV comeback next month.
Speaking in a taped interview on “Juicy” aired Feb. 16, Cuneta announced her impending return.
“Yes, ‘Sharon’ is starting sa March na po. Monday to Friday ng hanapon. Abang niyo po ‘yan. Mas malaki ang puso, mas mae-enjoy niyo po. Mas makabuluhan ito compared to all the shows that I’ve done,” she declared enthusiastically.
Cuneta inked a five-year contract with the Kapatid network November last year for a talent fee allegedly amounting to two billion pesos, which the Megastar has neither confirmed nor denied. Reports say that the projects for Cuneta, as per her contract, include a daily show, a reality show and a film.
While on a break from TV projects, Cuneta busied herself interacting with her fans via her official Twitter account (@sharon_cuneta12). However, just a little over two months since joining the microblogging site, the Megastar already has had bitter a taste of what haters were like.
Days after Valentine’s Day, the Megastar apparently did not receive “love” from her haters as she posted a salvo of tweets addressing their bashing her.
“My gulay same ole bashers are crowding my page! They are probably panicking bigtime... They all sense that 2012 is gonna be DIFFERENT and big for me!! They're looking like demons trembling in fear cos they're about to be cast out! How some people choose to use their time -- so unwisely in this case, instead of doing good or for self-improvement -- I will never fathom. God sees everything. God is good. And he made me FEISTY!!! Hahahahahahahahaha!” wrote the award-winning actress on her account.
“Funny how some people call u 'fake' or 'plastic' then when u reply you're 'pumapatol!' They can't even make up theirlittle minds about what I supposedly am! Defend yourself cos you're being real, keep quiet & ignore - it's damned if u do & damned if u don't,” she further lamented.
Cuneta then fired back, “Well -- here's a thought: they focus on ME. And I don't know who they are (who does?)! So they can pretend to be better but I KNOW I'm a better human-being. I hope they've at least changed some lives in their lifetimes, or kahit touched some lives lang. I doubt that they have! Here's big news for them: YOU HAVE NO POWER. Over me or anyone in this page. Or in this country. Except siguro those littler than u who know you! Soap your mouths! And thanks for all the energy & time & effort that u put into bashing me! I feel so important that I seem to be your scariest threat! family time guys! I slept so well that I dunno how I'll sleep tonight! Oh, no!!!”
After cooling down from her unexpected Twitter outburst, Cuneta then told one of her followers that she had to say her piece because “It's unfair lang that people who have never even met me think they have the right to describe me in such a hurtful way.”
