'We Are the World' to get an 'American Idol' alumni encore

LOS ANGELES - “We Are The World,” the celebrity-packed 1985 charity single, is getting an encore this weekend, courtesy of the stars of “American Idol.”

“Idol” judges Lionel Richie, who co-wrote the song with the late Michael Jackson, Katy Perry and country singer Luke Bryan will perform it on Sunday alongside former stars and winners of the television talent show, broadcaster ABC said on Friday.

ABC said it will be the first television performance in 35 years of the song, which originally was written to raise money for African famine relief and featured musicians including Jackson, Diana Ross, Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Bob Dylan and many others.

Sunday’s singers will include “Idol” alumni Fantasia, Jordin Sparks, Katharine McPhee, Kellie Pickler, Lauren Alaina, Ruben Studdard and Scotty McCreery, as well as the top 11 finalists from the current season of the show.

The singing contest, which will crown this year’s winner during the broadcast, has been produced remotely since mid-March when the coronavirus shutdown movie and television sets throughout the United States.

Richie said he had been “asked a thousand and one times” whether he was going to write another song that captures the coronavirus era.

“My answer is, exactly the lyrics I would have written for the new song are in the old song,” he told television talk show host Jimmy Kimmel this week.

“The lyrics work perfectly,” he added, referring to lines such as “We’re saving our own lives.”

Asked why he wanted the song sung by the “American Idol” family, Richie told Billboard on Friday, “We’ve done the all-star cast and it was historic. These kids inspire me with their talent and they reflect the diversity of the world.”

Fil-Am Francisco Martin enters 'American Idol' top 7

Francisco Martin has earned his ticket into the top 7 of “American Idol.”

Host Ryan Seacrest revealed the results of the nationwide votes in America on Sunday (Monday in Manila).

Aside from the Filipino-American singer, also advancing to the next round are Arthur Gunn, Dillon James, Jonny West, Julia Gargano, Louis Knight and Just Sam.

After learning the good news, all seven had to perform two more songs while at home: a Disney song, and another one dedicated to their mothers.

For Martin’s first performance, he did his own version of “You’ll Be in My Heart” from the movie “Tarzan,” and admitted to judges Lionel Richie, Luke Bryan and Katy Perry that he enjoyed himself while filming it.

Dubbing it as the “transformation of Francisco,” Richie noted how he saw the 19-year-old singer actually smiling at himself while performing.

“In other words, when you’re doing that, that was just giving us the confidence and the enjoyment. And by the way, we as an audience, we love to see that kind of emotion,” he said.

Perry, for her part, could not help but favorably compare Martin to a fellow contestant, saying what he did was “really amazing.”

“I agree with Lionel, you looked relaxed. All that self-doubt has been really stripped away. What you gave us at the end is kind of what I wanted from Louis Knight. This is a competition. Let’s get real. There’s only one Idol and you were spot-on with your performance and then at the end, you let us have it with the talent of your voice. Good for you. You are a good bet,” she said.

Meanwhile, Bryan said Martin’s first performance showed that he’s not just "the king of the jungle but you felt like king of ‘American Idol’ in my opinion.”

For his second song, Martin chose to dedicate a heartfelt performance of Leon Bridges’ “River” to his mom.

Perry thought Martin was already incredible with the Disney song, but he grew even more when he did his second performance.

“This set of Mother’s Day songs is really separating the pack. It’s showing who deserves that top position and you are making it difficult for all these other contestants because that performance was so, so full and beautiful and real. It was so heartfelt what you just did,” she said.

For Bryan, Martin’s version was actually better than the original and he wouldn’t think twice of spending his money on it the moment he heard the young singer’s first note.

Meanwhile, Richie reiterated how he loves that Martin’s confidence is now front and center.

“You’re no longer in your head. It’s all about your delivery now. We were checking your pulse [during auditions], remember that? Congratulations because you have a career and that is what’s most important and we saw it happen here on ‘American Idol,’” he said.

Voting for the next round began midway through Sunday’s episode and it will end on Monday (Tuesday in Manila).

For those in America, there are three ways to vote for Martin and that’s through the American Idol app, or by dropping by the American Idol website, or through texting “12” to “21523.”

The top 5 vote-getters will be revealed next week and will advance to the next round.

Katy Perry is pregnant

Congratulations is in order for Katy Perry!

More than a year since her engagement to actor Orlando Bloom, the “Roar” singer revealed through the music video of “Never Worn White” that they are expecting their first child together.

Launched on Thursday (Manila time), Perry can be seen at the end of the clip wearing a white dress, cradling her now apparent baby bump.

The “American Idol” judge also confirmed the good news when she did a live Instagram broadcast after the unveiling of the music video.

“There’s a lot that will be happening this summer. Not only will I be giving birth literally, but also figuratively to something you guys have been waiting for. Let’s just call it a double whammy,” she said.

“I am excited. We are excited and happy. It’s probably the longest secret I’ve had to keep. I’d like to tell you guys everything but I know I would tell you in the best way which is through a piece of music. Because that’s how I speak to you,” she added.

Perry clarified that “Never Worn White” is not the lead single for her upcoming album "KP5" but she said “it is a good way, I think, to start out. I had to reveal that at some point. It’s getting pretty obvious.”

This is going to be Bloom’s second child. He already has a nine-year-old son Flynn with his ex-wife Miranda Kerr.

Katy Perry, record label hit with $2.7 million copyright judgment

LOS ANGELES - A Christian rapper was awarded $2.7 million on Thursday by a Los Angeles jury that found that Katy Perry's 2013 hit "Dark Horse" contained a musical passage from one of his songs.

The verdict, reported by Los Angeles City News Service, followed a copyright trial in which Marcus Gray, known as Flame, said the beat in his song "Joyful Noise" was lifted and used in Perry's single.

The jury last week ruled that the short passage in the two songs was identical.

Perry, who was not in federal court for the damages decision, testified last month that she believed "Dark Horse" was an original work. The song was created by her producers and writers after she was presented with a series of short instrumental passages, the pop star testified.

Her attorney said she would appeal.

"The writers of `Dark Horse' consider this a travesty of justice," attorney Christine Lepera told reporters outside the court, City News reported.

"Dark Horse" brought in about $31 million for record label Capitol Records, a unit of Universal Music Group, attorneys for both sides agreed during the trial. Perry earned about $3.2 million.

On Thursday, Capitol Records was ordered to pay $1.2 million in damages to Gray, while Perry was ordered to pay $550,000. Producers and other collaborators on the song were told to pay the balance of the $2.7 million award.

Flame, 37, from St. Louis, Missouri, released his first album in 2004 and has had several hits on the Billboard gospel and Christian charts, but is little known outside of that genre.

Perry, 34, rose to fame in 2008 with the single "I Kissed a Girl" and went on to become one of the best-selling female pop stars in the world. She was also a judge for three seasons of the TV talent show "American Idol."

Jury finds Katy Perry copied Christian rap song

LOS ANGELES - US singer Katy Perry copied the beat of her 2013 hit "Dark Horse" from a Christian rap song, a Los Angeles jury found Monday.

The 9-member panel ruled that similarities between Perry's song and "Joyful Noise" by Marcus Gray -- who performs as "Flame" -- constituted copyright infringement.

The week-long trial saw Perry take the witness stand, where she told the jury her song was an original composition and that she had never heard of the rap song.

She said her collaborators had brought her samples of short instrumental passages, which inspired the composition of "Dark Horse."

Her team said that the 2 songs' underlying beat was "commonplace" and therefore cannot be copyrighted.

Gray's lawyers said the defendants had "copied an important part" of his song, referring to a 16-second instrumental phrase.

In a light-hearted moment, Perry provoked laughter after offering to perform her song live from the witness stand when the federal courtroom's speaker system had technical difficulties.

The court will begin on Tuesday to determine how much Gray may be owed in damages.

Perry performed a version of "Dark Horse" at the 2015 Super Bowl, while "Joyful Noise" has been viewed more than 3 million times on YouTube.

Gray's team first brought the litigation against Perry in 2014.

He kissed Katy Perry and didn't really like it

NEW YORK - For many young men inexperienced in romance, having one's first kiss with none other than Katy Perry would presumably be a welcome prospect.

Not so for Benjamin Glaze -- a 20-year-old from Oklahoma who showed visible discomfort when kissed by the pop superstar as she served in her new role as a judge on talent show "American Idol."

Glaze explained on an episode broadcast this week that he had never kissed anyone before and had wanted to save the experience for a relationship.

His remark came after country star Luke Bryan, a fellow judge on the show, phrased as a question one of Perry's most famous lyrics: "Have you kissed a girl and liked it?"

Perry beckoned over Glaze and invited him for a kiss, which he delivered on her cheek. She followed up by quickly smacking him right on the lips. Blaze voiced shock and stumbled through his song before being dismissed by the judges.

Perry's forwardness, while in line with the playful behavior of television personalities, triggered a flurry of commentary on social media -- with some accusing her of sexual harassment amid the newfound focus on consent in the #MeToo movement.

Speaking to The New York Times, Glaze said he was raised in a conservative family and had felt "uncomfortable immediately" as "I wanted my first kiss to be special."

As the story generated growing commentary, Glaze on Wednesday went to Facebook to criticize the media coverage and said he was not complaining about Perry.

"I do not think I was sexually harassed by Katy Perry and I am thankful for the judges comments and critiques," he wrote.

"I was uncomfortable in a sense of how I have never been kissed before and was not expecting it.

"My main goal is to reach people through the universal love of music and not cause strife or anger against anyone or about any situation!"

Nun fighting sale of convent to Katy Perry dies in court

An 89-year-old Roman Catholic nun who has battled pop star Katy Perry for years over the sale of a Los Angeles convent collapsed and died during a court appearance, according to media reports and supporters.

Sister Catherine Rose Holzman, one of 2 aging nuns who were fighting the sale of the 8-acre convent, died on Friday during related legal proceedings in Los Angeles County Court, Fox affiliate KTTV reported.

"To Katy Perry, please stop. It's not doing anyone any good except hurting a lot of people," Holzman had earlier told KTTV as she entered the courthouse with Sister Rita Callanan.

On Saturday a website set up to back the nuns' legal battle carried a picture of Holzman with the caption, "Rest with the angels our most precious treasure."

A spokeswoman for Perry, one of the world's top-selling pop stars, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Los Angeles County medical examiner and the Archdiocese of Los Angeles did not respond to queries about the cause of death.

At the center of the legal dispute is the property Holzman and other members of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart of Mary had once lived in.

Holzman and Cullanan, among 5 nuns who had lived at the convent, had sought to sell the property for $15.5 million to restaurateur Dana Hollister, who wanted to convert the property into a hotel.

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles sued to block the sale in 2015, arguing the nuns did not have authority to sell the property to Hollister.

A judge ruled in 2016 that the sale was invalid, paving the way for Perry to buy the site from the archdiocese.

YouTube partners with Katy Perry, Lady Gaga music conglomerate

NEW YORK - YouTube said Tuesday that it had sealed a licensing agreement with the world's largest music label conglomerate Universal as the video behemoth explores creating a new streaming service.

YouTube, which is part of Google, said it reached a long-term agreement with the Universal Music Group, months after a deal with competitor Warner Music. Universal artists include Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, U2, The Weeknd, Shawn Mendes and Kanye West.

A joint statement did not specify the terms but hinted that the agreement would address compensation by YouTube, a constant source of irritation within the music industry.

"This important step forward provides our recording artists and songwriters improved content flexibility and growing compensation from YouTube's ad-supported and paid-subscription tiers," Universal chairman and CEO Lucian Grainge said in the statement.

He said the agreement also advanced "YouTube's commitment to manage music rights on its platform."

The recorded music industry has posted 2 years of solid growth after years in the doldrums thanks to the rapid growth of subscriptions on Spotify, Apple Music and other streaming platforms.

But the industry, led by the IFPI trade group, has long berated YouTube for the rates it pays.

YouTube argues that it pays a fair price. With the video site's focus on user-generated content, YouTube enjoys protection under United States law that largely absolves internet companies from responsibility for users' activities.

With Google languishing behind in music streaming, several technology sites reported last month that YouTube is preparing the launch of its own streaming service in 2018.

The video site already has a YouTube Music platform and the advertising-free YouTube Red subscriptions, but it is reportedly looking to set up a more elaborate site on the model of the major, on-demand music services.

The licensing agreements would be vital for a successful YouTube streaming service, with music fans unlikely to embrace a platform that has glaring gaps in its catalog.

Celebrities embrace avant-garde challenge at 2017 Met Gala

NEW YORK -- On a night when celebrities can let loose on their fashion choices, pop princesses and Hollywood actress took it up a notch in the avant-garde department at New York's Met Gala.

The 2017 Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute ball was themed "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between," an homage to highly structured creations of the Japanese designer and her avant-garde label.

Pop singer Katy Perry, a co-chair of the ball, lived up to the theme's challenge with a custom Maison Margiela "Artisanal" ensemble by John Galliano, an imperial red tulle dress and a veil embroidered with the word "Witness."

Eric Wilson, fashion news director at InStyle, described this year's theme as "extremely challenging" compared to years past and agreed that Perry's outfit was courageously on point.

"I think she's without a doubt the hit of the night so far," Wilson said. "It's very brave to wear something that disguises who you are so much on the red carpet."

Rihanna was no slouch either, embodying Kawakubo’s penchant for dramatic silhouettes in a custom Comme des Garçons floral dress with cutouts and oversized ruffles. The singer earned the most mentions on social media, said Kellan Terry, an analyst at the social media monitoring company Brandwatch.

"Happy" singer Pharrell Williams in jeans and leather jacket, and star couple Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen in matching silver helped fashion maven and Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour host the annual fundraising gala, which is sometimes referred to as "the Oscars of the East Coast."

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian went against the theme, sporting a white dress by Vivienne Westwood with no clutch, no jewelry and no Kanye West, her fashion-loving husband. Sister Kendall Jenner dared to be bare, wearing a sheer slip that left little to the imagination, both in front and back.

Donning a beige Ralph Lauren trench coat gown paired with big silver hoop earrings, actress Priyanka Chopra dropped jaws and turned heads. Tennis star Serena Williams also served up drama with a baby bump under her green Atelier Versace dress.

Actress Zoe Kravitz went with a strapless pink and black Oscar de la Renta gown with an off-the-shoulder train, receiving much praise on social media, where the hashtag #MetGala was top trending.

Wilson said an added plus to Kravitz's dress is that it "looks comfortable."

"Some of these pieces are gorgeous on the red carpet," Wilson said. "But I'm assuming that a lot of these celebrities are going to be changing once they get through that door and sit down to dinner."

Katy Perry set to roar for Hillary

NEW YOK -- Hillary Clinton will enjoy a roar of support from pop superstar Katy Perry, who has signed on to rally for her presidential campaign.

Perry -- one of the top-selling pop stars of recent years who, at 76.3 million, has more Twitter followers than anyone, including President Barack Obama -- will join Clinton in Iowa, the critical first state in the presidential nomination contest.

Clinton's campaign said, without further detail, that Perry would appear with Clinton on October 24 before the Democratic Party's annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner in Des Moines, the Midwestern state's capital.

Perry's support of Clinton, who is vying to be the first female US president, is already well-known.

Last year, Perry posted a picture of herself with the former secretary of state and senator and offered to write her campaign theme song.

She also performed at Obama's second inauguration and has used her social media power to spread the word on the president's signature reform expanding health care coverage.

The 30-year-old singer -- who has released a string of blockbuster hits including "Roar," "Firework" and "Teenage Dream" -- was raised in a conservative Christian household and does not generally bring politics into her music.

An exception is gay rights, of which Perry has been an outspoken proponent, and which she touched upon in her hit song "I Kissed a Girl."

Perry has been touring Latin America on the final leg of her year-and-a-half long tour to promote the album "Prism," with the final date scheduled for October 18 in San Jose, Costa Rica.

Clinton is the front-runner to secure the Democratic nomination but has faced rising pressure on the left from Senator Bernie Sanders.

Sanders has won endorsements of a number of musicians, although none with Perry's star power. These include Flea of alternative rockers the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Belinda Carisle of all-female New Wave band The Go-Go's, and folk rockers Jackson Browne, Steve Earle and Loudon Wainwright III.

Rihanna becomes recording industry's top digital singles artist

Grammy-winning R&B singer Rihanna is the first artist to surpass more than 100 million cumulative digital singles, the Recording Industry Association of America said on Wednesday.

Rihanna, 27, topped the list of artists with the most digital single awards, coming in ahead of Taylor Swift and Katy Perry in the second and third places respectively. The recording industry's digital single certifications count download sales and on-demand streams in the United States.

"She has not only surpassed RIAA's one-hundred million mark, but also is the first artist to do so. It's an historic feat and a testament to an extraordinary career," Cary Sherman, the association's chairman and CEO, said in a statement.

Rihanna has won eight Grammy awards and has seven studio albums to her name. Her songs "We Found Love," "Stay" and "Only Girl (In The World)" are among her top-selling singles.

Madonna brings Katy, Miley, and more to new video

Madonna has brought out some of the biggest fellow names in pop -- and two of her children -- in a new video she debuted Wednesday on the fledgling streaming service Tidal.

Beyonce, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Kanye West all make cameo appearances in the video for "Bitch, I'm Madonna," off her latest album "Rebel Heart."

Madonna released the video initially on Tidal, where it will appear exclusively for one day before wider distribution.

But a number of users reported technical problems, saying that the video froze up when they first tried to watch.

"We apologize to all the fans excited to watch the #BitchImMadonna video, we're working on a fix," said a Tidal message on Twitter before later reporting smoother streaming.

Tidal -- led by rap mogul Jay-Z with participation of Madonna and other stars -- has promoted exclusives in a bid to win subscribers.

But despite a splashy launch on March 30, Tidal trails more established players in the growing field of streaming, led by Spotify.

The video -- which also features hip-hop star Nicki Minaj, who collaborated on the song originally -- depicts a party atmosphere and was shot at the Standard High Line, a hotel in New York's Meatpacking District known for its nightclub with a jacuzzi overlooking the city.

"Bitch, I'm Madonna" also includes rare appearances by two of the Material Girl's four children, 14-year-old Rocco and nine-year-old David.

"Rebel Heart," Madonna's 13th studio album, shows a growing hip-hop direction for the pop icon whose dance numbers and risque persona have made her one of music's most successful artists since the 1980s.

Madonna, 56, will launch a global tour on September 9 in Montreal. Her 88-date "MDNA" tour in 2012 grossed more than $300 million and generated controversy as she raised her voice on stage on issues ranging from gay rights to the rise of Europe's far right.

Meet young Pinoy dancer in Super Bowl half-time show

HOLLYWOOD - A Fil-Am dancer showed off his moves during the Super Bowl half-time show with Katy Perry and Missy Elliot.

Gabe de Guzman is now part of the legendary Super Bowl half-time performance by Missy Eliot and Katy Perry.

"It was such an incredible experience, I just can't explain in words. But I didn't realized the magnitude of it until I stepped on to that stage," he said.

De Guzman initially auditioned for Perry's group and thought at first that he did not get the job. It turns out something better was in store for him.

Perry and Elliot's performance, which include De Guzman, trended nationwide and continues to draw praise to this day.

"When I got the phone call from Missy's choreographer, I was like 'Is this just a dream right now?' I was just like, 'Unbelievable'," he said.

They had only one week of rehearsals in Los Angeles but the California dancer is used to the fast-paced, having previously worked with superstars like Bruno Mars, Justin Bieber, Christina Aguilera and Ariana Grande.

It was a medical condition and watching a dance routine from ABS-CBN shows on TFC that De Guzman gave into dancing.

"I needed to find an indoor activity because I had really bad allergies. But it was just asthma, and my sister she tried to get me dancing. My mom knew I had a passion for dancing because I would jump up and down on her lap at my sister's dance competitions. On my third birthday, I made lots of money doing 'Otso-otso'," he said.

His Filipino parents fully support his dancing career. They drive two hours to take De Guzman to auditions and dance classes in Hollywood.

Though he can't reveal the details yet, De Guzman said there is a chance that he will be a part of a Hollywood television show this year.

Katy Perry brings spectacle to Super Bowl halftime

GLENDALE, Arizona - Katy Perry delivered a spectacular halftime show at the Super Bowl on Sunday assisted by special guests Missy Elliott and Lenny Kravitz.

Perry entered the field astride a giant, golden, robotic lion as she sang her hit "Roar" before Kravitz brought some rock guitar to a version of "I Kissed a Girl".

After Missy Elliott provided the crowd of over 70,000 with her own distinctive brand of hip-hop, including "Get Ur Freak On", Perry performed on a desert island, singing her hit "Teenage Dream" and "California Gurls".

The halftime show ended with another surprise as Perry was lifted 50 feet off the ground by a mechanical contraption and as she floated above the field singing "Firework", sparkling flames emerged from the construction.

Katy Perry kissed a Pinoy and she liked it

American singer-songwriter Katy Perry promised to deliver fireworks and she did just that in her jam-packed concert at the SM Mall of Asia concert grounds Sunday evening.

Perry is in town to promote her new fragrance line Purr and as part of her "California Dreams" concert tour. Earlier, Perry tweeted: "I am so excited to PEACOCK in front of 25,000 Filipinos tonight singing every word, lil girls dreams do come true!"

Perry didn't fail her followers as she made her flashy costume changes and sang all her hit songs as the enthusiastic audience danced and sang along with her. The singer sang "Firework" wearing nothing more than a white maillot with colorful bulbs that lighted up.

At one point, Perry asked a hunky male fan to come up on stage and she surprised him with a kiss on the cheeks. Perry teased her, "I want to make your dream come true because obviously you haven’t kissed a pop star, have you?"

Perry was in a playful mood and even pinched the man’s nipple. The lucky guy turned out to be Ivan Dorschner, 21, a TV host, model, and former housemate of the reality show, Pinoy Big Brother. Dorschner took off his shirt for the kiss. Dorschner even got to kiss back Perry on the cheeks.

In her previous concert in Indonesia, Perry also kissed another guy. Though fans are now arguing on Twitter and Facebook whether the act was staged or not, what was very certain last night was that the audience screamed with delight as a very game Perry thrilled the crowd. Photos and videos of the kiss immediately went viral.

Perry's kissing Dorschner was also picked up by Mail Online, the website of The Daily Mail, a newspaper in the United Kingdom. In the article, the writer questioned whether the newly single 27-year-old singer pulled the act just to make her ex-husband, English comedian and actor Russell Brand, jealous. But the website also cited sources saying that Perry was reportedly just so happy to work again and be half a world away from Brand whom the singer unfollowed on Twitter recently.

After the concert, Perry thanked the Filipino audience for the successful show through her Twitter account: "Thanks for an AMAZING FINAL CDT date Manila! Sorry to keep u waiting earlier…had to solve a security issue, but THE SHOW WENT SPLENDIDLY!"

Be part of Katy Perry's video diary

MANILA, Philippines – Katy Perry has just issued an invitation.

Not only is the pop superstar performing once again in Manila on Sunday, Jan. 22, she is also asking her Pinoy fans to interact with their fellow Katy Cats in the country by being part of her “California Dreams” tour diary.

On the Tour Dates page of her official website, www.katyperry.com, under the Tour Diary tag, it says: “Want to help Katy remember all of the amazing places she visits around the world? Share your photos, videos, comments, and tweets with fellow fans in your city…”

Perhaps the very welcoming Filipino audience could help Katy remember how much more fun is to be in the Philippines. According to a press release, when fans share their videos on YouTube with the hashtag #ManilaDreams, their videos would also appear on Katy Perry’s official YouTube channel—and perhaps elicit a comment or a shout out from Katy herself! Videos have also been uploaded by other fans from several cities throughout the tour.

Aside from her numerous hits singles, Katy Perry is a bona fide new media darling. She has over 37 million Facebook fans and over 13 million Twitter followers. Her Vevo YouTube channel also has over 730 million video views and over 1million subscribers! As such, the Manila leg of her tour is made possible by the country’s number one telecommunications giant, Smart Communications, which touts itself as a trendsetter in utilizing social media to promote its concerts, Katy’s “California Dreams” tour included.

Katy likewise underscores her being a trendsetting social media powerhouse with her People’s Choice Award-winning music video for “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.).” Aside from hot celebrities doing a cameo for the video, Katy’s music video alter ego, Kathy Beth Terry, has followed her footsteps as an Internet sensation—Kathy Beth apparently has her own Facebook and Twitter accounts as well.

Katy’s “California Dreams” Tour has already broken records as one of the top 50 tours in the world, and has even won an MTV EMA award for Best Live Act. It also earned her a nomination as Favorite Tour Headliner in the People’s Choice Awards 2012.

Kicking off in 2011, it has a total of 122 shows all over Europe, Australia, Japan, South America and North America. For 2012, Manila is one of the only two Asian stops—the other one being Indonesia on Jan. 19—and as per reports, the tour wraps up here in the Philippines.

For her fans, the “Firework” singer, promises the show would be a spectacle that would “engage all of your senses: sight, sound, smell, taste, touch.” So, Pinoy fans can naturally expect a visual and aural feast for which Katy has come to be known, an all-around vibrant and fun experience and perhaps a giant sing-along to boot!

Kick start your 2012 with your candy dreams and catch Katy Perry’s California Dreams Tour LIVE IN Manila, presented by SMART, on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012 at the SM Mall of Asia concert grounds.
