'Depressed' Selena Gomez cuts short tour

Teen television star turned singer Selena Gomez has cut short a world tour as she handles the after-effects of lupus.

The 24-year-old revealed a year ago that she had secretly undergone chemotherapy to treat lupus, a chronic disease in which the body's immune system fights healthy tissue.

"I've discovered that anxiety, panic attacks and depression can be side effects of lupus, which can present their own challenges," she said in a statement posted Wednesday on sites of concert venues where she had been due to perform.

"I want to be proactive and focus on maintaining my health and happiness and have decided that the best way forward is to take some time off," she said.

She told fans that she needed to "face this head on to ensure I am doing everything possible to be my best."

"I know I am not alone by sharing this, I hope others will be encouraged to address their own issues," she said.

People magazine, which first reported her statement, quoted an unnamed source saying Gomez "hadn't felt like herself" in the past couple of months and decided to "clear her calendar for the year."

Gomez last performed August 13 in Auckland, New Zealand at the end of an Asian tour leg and has since gone quiet on social media.

She had been due to resume her "Revival" tour next week in North America, ending on December 18 in Guadalajara, Mexico.

Gomez, who rose to fame starring in the Disney series "Wizards of Waverly Place," also cut short a tour in late 2013.

Tabloids at the time speculated that she was heartbroken over her breakup with fellow young star Justin Bieber.

She revealed only two years later that she was being treated for lupus and criticized the media frenzy around her.

Lupus is estimated to strike some five million people around the world, disproportionately women of childbearing age, according to the Lupus Foundation of America.

LOOK: Liza stuns on three covers of fashion magazine

MANILA - Teen star Liza Soberano is featured in not one, not two, but three covers of a local fashion magazine, and she looks every bit as stunning in each of them.

The 17-year-old Soberano is the cover girl of the September issue of Metro. It sees the "Forevermore" lead star pose in different locations around California such as Santa Clara, San Jose, and Los Angeles, dressed in stylish outfits from top American brands.

"Metro likes to create a story that goes deeper than just snapping a pretty photo in a foreign city," the magazine's editior-in-chief Sarah Meier said.

"We chose to bring Liza to California for our Big Fashion Issue because its tailor made to mesh with her rising career. California encapsulates Liza’s past and bright future," she added.

Online fans of Soberano were quick to complement the teen star, making the hashtag #MetrLovesLiza one of the top local trending topics on Twitter Thursday evening. It has generated more than 19,000 mentions.

"This shoot was so close to my heart. I can't wait for it to come out and for all of you to get to know me more," wrote Soberano on her Instagram account.

Here are the covers which prove that good things really do come in threes.

Kathryn shares wish as she turns 19

MANILA - Teen star Kathryn Bernardo has a simple wish as she turns 19 this month.

Bernardo, who will celebrate her birthday on March 26, said she only wants to spend some quality time with her friends before taking on another showbiz project.

The actress is the lead star of ABS-CBN's remake of "Pangako Sa 'Yo" along with Daniel Padilla.

"Basta hinihingi ko lang ang oras ng mga kaibigan ko, na ibigay nila 'yung two days na hinihingi ko. Alam mo 'yun, 'yung short vacation ko bago ako mag-back to work," she said.

"Magbi-beach kami, definitely. Tapos may mga gagawin lang siguro doon na activities kasama ang mga kaibigan, so more on bonding talaga. Sobrang excited kami lahat," she added.

When asked about the gift she plans to give to herself on her birthday, Bernardo said: "Siguro walang material things pa. Parang siguro ngayon talaga ay 'yung bakasyon na two days, 'yun ang gift ko sa sarili ko. Kasi 'di madaling pagsama-samahin ang schedule ng mga friends mo dahil may trabaho din sila. Pinayagan naman ako ni Mama so na-excite naman ako."

Preps for 'Pangako Sa 'Yo'

Meanwhile, Bernardo shared that she has been preparing for her role as Yna Macaspac, originally played by Kristine Hermosa, in the remake of "Pangako Sa 'Yo."

"Ngayon pinagku-cooking nila ako for the role. Tapos sina Inang, sinabi nila na magkakaroon kami ng isang workshop session at sasabihin nila kung anong character namin paara alam namin ang character by heart. Sina Ate Jodi ay nag-start na silang mag-taping, actually," she said.

The teen star admitted that she feels both excited and pressured to take on the new role.

"Siyempre, nandoon 'yung pressure, alam natin kung gaano ka-successful at kalakas ang 'Pangako Sa 'Yo' dati. Excited kami at kinakabahan at the same time kung paano ang magiging reaction ng mga tao rito. Pero gagawin namin lahat and, of course, nandiyan naman 'yung directors namin para tulungan kami sa mga characters. Iba naman 'yung mapapanood nila rito," she said.

"Pangako Sa 'Yo" will soon be part of ABS-CBN's Primetime Bida block.

Why Kathryn can't commit to Daniel Padilla

MANILA -- Teen star Kathryn Bernardo admitted that religion will play a huge part if ever she decides to take her relationship with leading man Daniel Padilla to the next level.

During a press conference for her upcoming debut, the 17-year-old teen actress said she can only see herself committing to a relationship with someone who share the same religious beliefs.

"Religion, malaking factor siya para sa ating lahat pero for me pagmahal mo naman ang isang tao, tatanggapin mo kung ano na ang tao na 'yun. Ako kung ganon na talaga ako, kailangan tanggapin na ‘yun ng isang tao kasi ako na ‘yun eh hindi mo na 'yun mababago," she said.

A member of Iglesia Ni Cristo (INC), Bernardo said that she would often talk and joke about the topic with Padilla, who is a known Catholic.

"Minsan napag-uusapan namin 'yang about sa religion na 'yan, about sa mga differences ng teachings ng mga INC sa ganyan," she said.

The actress, however, clarified that she is not pressuring the teen actor into converting. "Hindi ko siya tinatanong talaga na, 'willing ka ba?' Mapre-pressure ko naman siya di ba?"

But the "Got To Believe" lead star revealed that she doesn't have anyone else in mind but Padilla as her boyfriend.

"Kung paguusapan natin 'yung qualities at effort, malaki ang chance ni DJ dahil nakikita ko naman na mabait na tao si DJ. Aside from gwapo, 'yung personality maganda," she said.

Asked if she would be willing to switch religions if it was the other way around, she gamely answered, "Of course, pero titingan ko muna 'yung teachings kung pasok sa mga pinaniniwalaan ko. Kung pasok naman eh walang problema."

She added that what's important is having a fear for God, whichever a person's chosen religion may be. "Importante sa akin 'yung naniniwala at may takot sa taas," she said.

Demi Lovato goes back on tour, a year after breakdown

LOS ANGELES - Teen star Demi Lovato is going back out on the road, a year after entering treatment for bulimia and other emotional problems.

Lovato, 19, will start a 10-city U.S. tour in November to celebrate the success of her latest album "Unbroken" and its debut single "Skyscraper", her spokesman said on Friday.

Lovato, the former star of Disney Channel's "Sonny with a Chance", suffered an emotional breakdown in November 2010 when she pulled out of a concert tour with the Jonas Brothers and entered a three month treatment program.

She has since spoken openly about her 10 year battle with eating disorders and said she started cutting herself at the age of 11.

Lovato has since quit the TV series that made her one of Disney Channel's biggest international teen stars, saying she wanted to focus on her music career.

Lovato has performed recently in New York and Los Angeles to promote the September release of "Unbroken". The new mini-tour will start in Detroit on November 16 and end in Chicago on December 3. - Reuters
