Love at first sight? How direk Cathy discovered Enrique Gil
MANILA — "My Ex and Whys" director Cathy Garcia-Molina recalled during a bloggers' conference on Friday the moment she first noticed Enrique Gil.
According to Molina, she noticed the "pogi" young man on Sunday variety show "ASAP." She then immediately asked regular "ASAP" performer Rayver Cruz to name him.
"Enrique Gil. Bago po, kaya lang pilipit ang dila," Molina recalled Cruz saying.
Molina said she first thought of Gil as the best counterpart for the late actor AJ Perez, who was also "tisoy" and equally good-looking.
"Pero hindi lang pala siya pogi. Magaling na artista din naman talaga," Molina added.
Apart from "My Ex and Whys," Molina has already made a few projects with Gil, including the phenomenal 2014 series "Forevermore."
"My Ex and Whys" will hit theaters on Wednesday.

LOOK: Liza stuns on three covers of fashion magazine
MANILA - Teen star Liza Soberano is featured in not one, not two, but
three covers of a local fashion magazine, and she looks every bit as
stunning in each of them.

Liza Soberano not ready for a romantic relationship
MANILA – While admitting that she has a crush on Enrique Gil, young actress Liza Soberano said she is not yet ready to enter into a romantic relationship with anyone.
In an interview with ABS-CBN News on Sunday, Soberano said she is still young and her focus at this time is her career.
“Sa ngayon hindi pa po talaga [ako ready sa kahit anong relationship] kasi bata pa po ako. My focus is on acting and being better. Hindi ko pa po talaga iniisip 'yung mga love life or whatever,” she said.
The actress said it would be unwise for her to prioritize her love life over all the opportunities that are coming her way.
Currently, Soberano is working on the upcoming ABS-CBN series “Forevermore” with Gil, which is set to premiere on Monday after “Hawak Kamay.”
“It makes me very happy but nervous at the same time because everybody is watching me. Of course, I’m honored. I’m thankful to everybody for noticing my talent and for appreciating me,” she said.
Soberano said she is also excited for her supporters as they can finally see what they have been working on. “Aabangan niyo po yung funny scenes ng ‘Forevermore’ and 'yung pagi-Ilocano ko. Marunong naman talaga ako, nakakaintindi ako, but I’m not fluent in speaking. Tinuruan lang ako ng tita ko in the scenes,” she said.
Meanwhile, the actress shrugged off talks comparing her love team with Gil to that of Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla.
“Established na 'yung love team nila. Hindi namin iniisip na kailangan kapantay namin 'yung Kathniel or anything. Whatever the outcome, okay lang sa amin,” she said.
Asked if she is ready for the intrigues that come with being in a love team, she said: “I have to be ready, I have to be strong to face those issues. I have my family and a good set of friends who will take care of me and guide me through the process.”

Liza Soberano warms up to Enrique Gil
MANILA -- Teen star Liza Soberano has already started work on her first-ever movie project with leading man Enrique Gil.
Soberano and Gil are headlining Star Cinema's upcoming film "The Bet," which is based on the hit book of the same title written by Kimberly Joy Villanueva.
"The Bet" tells the story Drake who made a bet with his best friend that he can make Sophia fall for him in just 30 days.
In a recent interview, Soberano said she and Gil have started to bond with the rest of the film's cast.
"Nag-story con kami, nag-script reading at after that nag-bonding kami, nag-karaoke kami. Sobrang saya at nakilala namin ang isa't isa sa workshop. Nung una nahihiya ako, feeling ko hindi ko sila masyadong ka-close nung una, nung medyo tinutukso nila ako and everything medyo nag-warm na," she said.
"It's really fun to be with him especially on set kasi kahit pagod na siya ay nagapapatawa pa din siya so hindi ka din mapapagod sa kanya," Soberano shared.
Soberano said she's just happy to shoot her launching movie.
"I'm really, really happy and nervous at the same time, kasi nga I didn't start out as bida sa teleserye so it's going to be harder for me to adjust to this. Kasi, when it's a movie, it's a really big thing and people pay to watch. You really have to be good kasi ayaw mo naman na ma-upset sila kapag napanood nila," she said.
As part of her preparation, Soberano admitted that she's also working on her Tagalog.
"Matagal na akong nag-aaral, mahirap lang mawala ang American accent. Pero nag-aaral po talaga ako at nagbabasa ako ng Tagalog books," she said.

Liza Soberano bags lead role in 'The Bet'
MANILA – Young actress Liza Soberano has finally landed a lead role in the upcoming Star Cinema movie “The Bet,” which is based on the Wattpad book.
Soberano admitted that there came a point when she got worried about being typecast as the third wheel just like her past roles in her previous television and movie projects.
“A lot of people were telling me na baka ma-typecast ako na third wheel but I’m finally happy na nabigyan ako ng sarili kong movie,” she told ABS-CBN News on Wednesday.
Soberano said she is also happy to be paired with Enrique Gil, who was also her co-star in the movie “She’s The One.”
“I’m really happy and honored na pinili ako because coming from ‘Got To Believe,’ I feel like I jumped to the movie kaagad with him. It makes me kind of nervous and sometimes I feel like I don’t know kung bakit ako pinili but it makes me also think na I must be doing something right. It also makes me feel special,” she said.
Asked if she still gets shy around Gil, the young actress said: “Okay naman, we are friends. We’ve worked together and we have the same handler so we kind of know each other really well. Pero I still need to hang out with him more to get used to it.”
In “The Bet,” Gil plays the role of Drake, who gets into a betting game with his best friend, which involves courting the unsuspecting Sophia (Soberano). When Sophia finally falls for him, Drake should tell her that everything was just a game.
Equally excited as Soberano, Gil noted that this is the first time for him to do a youth-oriented love story.
“Hindi pa ako nakakagawa ng love story na movie na youth-oriented 'yung dating. We really concentrate sa teens lang talaga. It’s nice to try it. Gusto rin namin na after years and years kapag binalikan, like if si Aga (Muhlach) and Yayo (Aguila), ‘Bagets’ yun. Ito naman if Enrique and Liza, uy ‘The Bet’ yun. Gusto namin yun ilabas. It’s a teen movie that people are going to remember,” he said.
“The Bet” is slated to be released in theaters within the year.

How Enrique feels about Liza Soberano
MANILA – Actor Enrique Gil seemed uneasy as he answered questions from “The Buzz” host Boy Abunda about his “real feelings” for teen actress, Liza Soberano.
Both were on “The Buzz” on Sunday to promote the film “She’s the One,” along with the movie’s lead stars Dingdong Dantes and Bea Alonzo.
“Everything about her, yes, puwede [akong manligaw]. Maybe after the concert, parang doon pa lang ako…sa ngayon, I’ll be like…not really ready din yet pero who wouldn’t like to be with somebody like her?” he said.
Gil was rumored to be dating Soberano after they were spotted together after the Star Magic Ball last month even though the actor arrived at the party as actress Julia Montes’ escort.
Gil had earlier said that he and Soberano are just friends as they share the same handler.
“Friends lang kami ni Liza kasi pareho kami ng handler. Sabi kasi ni Julia aakyat na siya, so sumama na lang ako sa handler ko. Eh wala ring kasama si Liza so sumama rin,” he said at the time.
Meanwhile, Soberano told Abunda that she is also not yet ready for any form of commitment.
“I’m not ready yet because I’m still young. Nagfo-focus muna ako sa career but maybe when I’m older. Maybe when I’m 18,” she said.
Asked how she felt after learning about Gil’s kissing scene with Alonzo in the movie, Soberano said: “I was there to witness it. Nagulat po ako kasi first time ko lang makakita ng live. May sounds pa po.”
Drawing laughter from the audience, Soberano continued: “I wanted to see a bit of it but I didn’t want to see it all because it was a kissing scene.”
Produced by Star Cinema, “She’s the One” will be released in theaters nationwide on October 17.
