Isabelle Daza is now a Kapamilya

MANILA -- Actress-host Isabelle Daza is now officially a Kapamilya star.

On Monday afternoon, Daza signed a contract with ABS-CBN and was welcomed by the network's executives led by president and CEO Charo Santos-Concio.

"Napaka-excited ako and overwhelmed with this warm welcome. Coming here, everybody has been welcoming me at kinukuwento ko sa kanila na even the waiter was telling me 'Ma'am welcome to the Kapamilya.' Parang proud na proud siya. It makes me so honored to be part of this family," she said.

Asked why she decided to change networks, Daza replied: "I wanted a new challenge in my life and I want to try something that I haven't done. I want to to expand my horizons and take this journey as an actress naman."

The actress-host admitted it was a hard decision for her to leave the noontime show "Eat Bulaga."

"Nung Saturday last day ko na. It was very emotional lalo na kay Ryzza (Mae Dizon) because she's my little student but they were all very supportive and they all wished me luck and they are excited also to see what I have in store here sa ABS-CBN," she said.

Daza said she signed an exclusive contract with ABS-CBN for both TV and movies. "Bongga naman siya, 'yun muna," she said.

First project

In the interview, Daza revealed that her first project in her new home is the upcoming series "Nathaniel," with Gerald Anderson as her leading man.

"Yes, kasama ako sa cast ng 'Nathaniel.' I will be working with Gerald Anderson and Shaina (Magdayao), Pokwang and Coney Reyes and amazing cast. I'm so excited for that," said Daza, who will play the girlfriend of Anderson in the upcoming show.

"Ako ay isang lawyer and I work closely with his (Anderson's) mom, Coney Reyes. Kami yung laging magkaka-eksena," she aded.

Daza admitted it was her dream to work with Anderson.

"Si Gerald talaga ang gusto kong makatrabaho kasi nakita ko siya sa 'On The Job' and I saw kung gaano siya nag-grow as an actor and I was very impressed. So siya 'yung number one, that's why I'm so excited to work with him," she explained.

"Next, nakatrabaho ko na si John Lloyd (Cruz), pero marami kayong leading men here to choose from so it's like a buffet," she said.

Daza was part of the movie "It Takes A Man and A Woman" with Cruz and Sarah Geronimo.

Mom's words

Isabelle, the daughter of actress-beauty queen Gloria Diaz, also revealed that her mother singled out Magdayao among her co-stars.

"Ang sinasabi ng mom ko, siyempre 'Do your best, you are only as good as your last scene' at 'Shaina is a good actress, you have to learn from her.' Also she told me -- siyempre my mom is my number one fan -- 'you are magaling.' She always tells me that every day, so parang 'yun ang palagi kong naririnig sa kanya. But she said 'ABS-CBN is a different level and they really expect the best from you," Daza shared.

"She wants me to focus on being an actress also. Parang same lang naman kami," she added.

As part of her preparation for the series, Daza said she will undergo acting workshop.

Kim bares back in newest magazine cover

MANILA, Philippines – Kapamilya star Kim Chiu again showed her sexy side as she appeared in a backless dress on the cover of Metro magazine in its May issue.

Chiu, who is gracing the cover of Metro for the sixth time, was photographed wearing an elegant black dress and showing her bare back. The cover was shot by photographer BJ Pascual, while Denise Go-Ochoa did her makeup. Chiu's hair was styled by Jerry Javier.

According to Metro’s Facebook page, the issue will feature a “fierce and fabulous” Chiu as she sports summer’s most sophisticated trends.

Just last week, Chiu posted her photo wearing a two-piece swimsuit in the image-sharing site Instagram to welcome "another chapter" of her life as she turned a year older last Friday.

Much to everyone’s surprise, the photo was seen by many as a bold move for the Kapamilya star, who has been known for her wholesome image since winning the reality TV show "Pinoy Big Brother" in 2006.

But Chiu shrugged off the idea that she is now ready to take on daring roles and leave her wholesome image behind.

“Side view lang iyon. One angle lang ng body. Hindi mo nga kita ang tiyan ko. Hindi pa ako ready. Huwag naman muna, okay pa ako na ganito. Isang picture lang,” she told ABS-CBN News.

The actress said she is happy being the simple girl her supporters have learned to love for the past seven years.

Kristine Hermosa makes surprise public appearance

MANILA, Philippines -- Kristine Hermosa's red-carpet appearance last Thursday was a welcome surprise to entertainment media and fans alike, as the prized Kapamilya star attended the premiere of an entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).

Hermosa, along with husband Oyo Boy Sotto, graced the premiere night of the fantasy-comedy flick "Si Agimat, Si Enteng Kabisote at Si Ako" at SM Megamall on Thursday night.

Sotto's father, Vic, stars with Judy Ann Santos and Bong Revilla in the MMFF entry. In earlier installments of the "Enteng" film franchise, Hermosa portrayed Vic's wife.

Last seen in the fantasy series "Noah" (2010), where she portrayed Diwatang Eva, Hermosa has been on hiatus from show business since getting married to the younger Sotto in January 2011.

In December that same year, Hermosa gave birth to a baby girl, Ondrea Bliss, which prolonged her absence from the limelight.

Sotto and Hermosa also have an adopted son, Quiel.

On being a full-time mother the past years, Hermosa said, "I'm enjoying it, I'm happy. [Ondrea Bliss], she's active, and smart!"

Although she devotes most of her time to her duties as a mom, the Star Magic talent said she hopes to make her showbiz comeback in 2013.

"I'm not sure [when I will return to acting], hopefully next year. Plantsahin muna natin bago ako magsalita," she said.

Hermosa, 29, also expressed interest in a reunion project with former leading man and real-life boyfriend Jericho Rosales, "basta malinis lang."

Rosales and Hermosa's first series together, "Pangako Sa'yo" (2000), will be localized for Cambodian viewers by the Cambodian Television Network  and is set to start production in early 2013.

News of the series' revival fueled interest in another Rosales-Hermosa team-up. In an earlier interview, the actor revealed that a Malaysian production company has proposed a project starring the former couple.

Hermosa thanked her fans who continue to support her despite being inactive in show business.

"Kahit na hindi nila ako nakikita ngayon, kahit hindi ako visible on TV, maraming, maraming salamat sa suporta, dahil nandoon pa rin kayo," she said.

Anne Curtis to hold 'world tour'

MANILA, Philippines -- Fans of Anne Curtis based overseas will finally have the chance to watch the Kapamilya star perform live in a "world tour."

After touring the Philippines this year for her "Annebisyosa: No Other Concert" series of shows, Curtis is kicking off her "world tour" with a live performance at Chater Garden, Central in Hong Kong on Sunday, November 18.

"There are inquiries as early as now for next year from abroad. I don't know how long this is going to be, but I'm just so happy na finally it's going world tour," Curtis told ABS-CBN News at the sidelines of an accessories fashion show held Thursday night.

"The year 2011 was already an amazing year. This year, 2012, is even better. I just feel really, really blessed," she added.

As it unfolded, Curtis' for-laughs singing antics on the noontime variety program "It's Showtime" endeared her to the "madlang people." Her debut album, "Annebisyosa," was then released in September 2011, and went on to earn a platinum award.

Her concert series followed early this year, when she performed to a sold-out Smart Araneta Coliseum in January.

With blockbuster movies, successful TV shows, numerous high-profile endorsements and a Hollywood film underway, can the Kapamilya actress ask for anything more?

"I don't want to wish for anything else, because I'll be super selfish. When they ask me, 'What more can you ask for?' Wala eh," she said.

"Of course i still have goals and dreams that I want to pursue, but I don't want to wish for it, I'll make it happen by myself. Thank you na lang Lord for the blessing," she added.

Mario-Erich chemistry was 'instant,' says director

MANILA, Philippines – The onscreen chemistry of Thai actor Mario Maurer and Kapamilya star Erich Gonzales happened to just click, according to the director of their first big screen team-up.

"Right away there was chemistry, right away, first shooting day, first scene, first sequence, first shot, bagay na bagay sila sa isa't-isa," said Rory Quintos, director of Star Cinema's upcoming romantic-comedy film "Suddenly It's Magic."

The film tells the story of a Marcus Hanson (Maurer), a superstar in his native Thailand, who finds love in the Philippines, where he meets baker Joey Hermosa (Gonzales).

Recounting how the "team-up" came about, Quintos said: "[I got a call that] there was this project with a Thai actor, Mario Maurer, and that he was going to be paired with a female actress."

"When I found out that it was Erich, I was very happy because at that time that I got the call from Star Cinema, I was with Erich in 'Maria la del Barrio.' We did the series together," Quintos added, referring to the Kapamilya series first aired in 2011.

Maurer, who rose to fame for his critically-acclaimed role in the 2008 Thai film "The Love of Siam," was not particularly hard to get along with, Quintos shared.

"When Mario came here, when we met, what struck me most was that he seemed like such a nice boy, and he's really, really cute. I think women of all generations would appreciate how cute he is," she said.

Also Joross Gamboa, Joy Viado, Guji Lorenzana, Ces Quesada, Dinkee Doo, John Lee and Pimchanok Luevisadpaibul, "Suddenly It's Magic" will hit theaters nationwide on October 31.
