Dingdong Dantes learns to play guitar during lockdown

MANILA — Actor Dingdong Dantes has learned a new skill during this period of enhanced community quarantine.

In an Instagram post on Monday night, Dantes shared that he finally fulfilled his childhood dream of learning how to play guitar.

View this post on Instagram

Back in grade school, i was a drummer of an amateur rock band whose only claim to fame was winning first runner up in the school’s ‘94 Battle Of The Bands. Second out of only 2 participating groups! 🤣 Since then, I’ve always wanted to learn how to play a whole song on guitar. The farthest i’ve reached was learning 3 chords— G, D and A, mula pa sa kabanda kong magaling mag gitara. I had given up on that dream not until i saw the post of @kuyakim_atienza wanting to learn the instrument during this ECQ. So ayun, kailan pa ba ako matututo kundi ngayon?! I am grateful to my friend (and grade school classmate) for hooking me up with one of their stocks! Mabuti na lang at may on-line tutorials din for beginners like me. First on the list is for my little Buddy’s celebration this coming Thursday— ang napakahirap at napakalupet na Happy Birthday song.😆 Ikaw, ano request mo? Dingdong Dantes stands with ABS-CBN amid franchise challenge

MANILA — Actor Dingdong Dantes, a prized star of GMA-7, has expressed support for its rival network ABS-CBN amid the challenges to its franchise renewal.

The former National Youth Commission head, 39, released his statement in support of the Kapamilya network, a day after the Office of the Solicitor General filed a quo warranto petition asking the Supreme Court to void its franchise.

"Magkaiba man ng bakod, we are one in the media industry," Dantes wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

"We have one love for the many talents and crafts under this Network, the products and output of which, directly or indirectly, benefit the lives of millions of Filipinos," he said.

Dantes then quoted a portion of Buhay Rep. Lito Atienza's privilege speech on the ABS-CBN's franchise renewal the day prior.

"Inaction will only spell the weakening of the foundations of our democratic system... This Congress is really paralyzed with inaction; and we should not be deserving to be called representatives of the people," Atienza had said, as shared by Dantes.

The lawmaker was referring to the pending bills before Congress seeking to renew the franchise of ABS-CBN, which will expire at the end of March.

"In the end," Dantes added, "I pray that the true interests of the people, under the rule of law, will prevail over any other political agenda conveniently veiled as a countermeasure against alleged abuses."

"I pray too that the government, thru Congress, will hear out its constituents. After all, Congress is supposed to represent our 'voice.' #NoToABSCBNShutDown," he wrote.

Dantes, while an exclusive TV talent of GMA-7, has been a frequent collaborator of ABS-CBN Films' Star Cinema. He most recently starred in the Kapamilya project "Fantastica" in 2018.

Why Dingdong Dantes won't run for public office

MANILA – Although he is being considered to be part of the senatorial slate of the Liberal Party (LP) for the upcoming 2016 elections, Dingdong Dantes categorically said he has no plans of running for any elected post.

In an article published on Pep.ph on Thursday, the actor was quoted as saying he is honored to be part of LP’s list but he has other important things in his plate as of the moment.

“Well, it’s their right to make a draft and have their initial choices. Ako, kumbaga I’m honored to be part of that list. Sino ba naman ako para malagay dun, ‘di ba? Pero nakapagdesisyon naman po ako na wala talaga sa plano ko na tumakbo in any elected post,” he said.

Dantes said he wants to focus on his career while being a husband to actress Marian Rivera and a father to their coming baby.

“Kaya wala po sa plano ko ‘yan and there are lot of things to do. I’m categorically saying that I’m not running in any electoral post this 2016,” he reiterated.

Dantes said he also has his responsibilities as a commissioner-at-large of the National Youth Commission (NYC).

“Para sa akin, mahalaga na magampanan ko muna ang tungkulin ko sa NYC. It’s not an easy task that’s why we really need lots of attention, commitment. And hindi pupuwede siyang madagdagan pa as of this moment,” he said.

Marian Rivera, Dingdong Dantes announce pregnancy

MANILA - Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes are expecting their first child.

The TV superstars, whose highly publicized nuptials last December were dubbed a "Royal Wedding," made the announcement Monday in an interview with broadcast journalist Jessica Soho that aired on "24 Oras."

"Gusto po namin sabihin na nagbunga ang aming pagmamahalan," said Dantes. "Nabiyayaan kami ng Panginoon ng isa sa pinaka magandang regalo na puwedeng ibigay and that's the gift of life."

The pregnancy was scheduled, according to the 34-year-old actor.

When asked whether they have a preferred sex for their baby, Dantes answered, "One step a time. Sa ngayon, nagpapasalamat kami na may biyaya kami ng isang buhay. Okay na, kahit ano ang ibigay sa amin."

Addressing the public, Dantes appealed to be given privacy on further details of Rivera's pregnancy. In the interview, the couple did not divulge when Rivera is due to give birth, although media reports said she was already nine weeks into her pregnancy, as of Monday.

Rivera, 30, admitted that being a first-time expectant mother has not been easy.

"Every morning, nagsusuka talaga ako. Tapos may mga times na, kahit hindi malayo ang biyahe, madalas ako nahihilo," she said. "Sabi ko, okay lang, kaya kong tiisin ang lahat ng sakripisyong 'yan kung ang kapalit naman ay isang napakagandang biyaya mula sa Panginoon."

The primetime actress laughed as she shared her cravings and "odd" preferences. Dantes teased that his wife has been pinching him often when things don't go her way.

"Noong isang araw, ang hinahanap ko, White Rabbit, iyong candy na puti. Tapos noong isang araw, Haw Haw, candy parin, kulay puti parin," Rivera said. "Puro puti ang hinahanap ko, hindi ko alam kung bakit. Tapos ayaw ko rin po nung amoy na sobrang tapang, medyo nahihilo po ako."

Amid speculation about the pregnancy last week, the couple appeared to clue in their supporters when Rivera, in an Instagram post, shared a photo of her with Dantes holding her tummy.

How Dingdong reacted to Karylle's 'two-timer' remark

MANILA – Dingdong Dantes is not affected that some people think he was the former boyfriend who Karylle was referring to when she revealed that she had been “two-timed” by her ex.

In an interview with entertainment site Pep, Dantes said he does not want to assume that Karylle was referring to him since the singer-actress did not mention any name.

“Wala naman sigurong sinasabing ako 'yun. So I don’t want to assume din naman. If I react prematurely about a statement that’s not clear, hindi rin naman maganda. Basta para sa akin, ipagdarasal ko na lang sila,” he said.

Dantes said he would rather focus on how happy he is with his personal life right now.

“I’m not puzzled, I’m happy. I’m happily married. So, you know, baka hindi talaga maaalis 'yun. But the happiness and the love supersede all the negativity, and that’s all that matters," he said.

To end the interview, Pep asked Dantes if things are now well between him and Karylle since it has been years since they separated.

“I don’t want to answer also questions about her. Because again, I’ve not answered din before anything about it. Although, I spoke once in a magazine about it and para sa akin, okay na 'yun, tama na 'yun,” he said.

Karylle admitted on “It’s Showtime” last Friday that she had been “two-timed” by a former boyfriend.

Vice Ganda brought up the topic during his eponymous love advice segment, "AdVice Ganda," after an audience member shared that her boyfriend of three months has another girlfriend of six years.

The comedian then enlisted the help of Karylle and another co-host, Anne Curtis, to give their advice.

"Nangyari na ba sa iyo 'yan," Vice Ganda asked Karylle, "na meron kang boyfriend tapos tinwo-time ka? Para totoo ang hugot. Nangyari na ba 'yan, na-two-time ka, 'yung hindi mo alam, may dyowa na?"

The question prompted cheers from the audience. Karylle tried to change the topic, but when pressed to answer, said, "Nangyari!"

When asked when it happened, Karylle said she no longer remembers as she tried to divert the conversation especially when Vice Ganda asked her directly who cheated on her.

Karylle is now married to Yael Yuzon, while Dantes is married to Marian Rivera.

Marian Rivera shares beauty secrets

MANILA – The secret to being beautiful and sexy is maintaining good hygiene, according to actress Marian Rivera, who was hailed as FHM magazine’s sexiest woman in the Philippines this year.

In an interview with The Philippine Star, which was published on Sunday, Rivera said she equates beauty to cleanliness.

“Ako, basta sa akin ang babaeng malinis, maganda,” she said. “Every time pagkatapos ng shoot, I really remove makeup. Every night, naglilinis ako ng mukha, naglalagay ng toner, saka moisturizer. Kung pwede pa ako maglagay ng mask bago matulog, naglalagay ako.”

In trying to keep herself fresh all day, Rivera said she does not think twice in buying expensive facial cleanses.

“Kahit ano’ng mahal ng product, huwag nilang paghinayangan kung ilalagay nila sa face nila. Mag-invest talaga sila. And then be happy inside and out,” she said.

Rivera, however, admitted she still exerts a lot of effort in keeping her figure.

“I exercise, like running, Zumba, muay Thai, dancing, swimming and also I do Spider-Man. (Laughs) Joke lang ‘yung Spider-Man,” she said.

Choosing the right food also plays an important role in being sexy, Rivera said.

“I do not diet. Wheatgrass lang. Kumakain din naman ako pero hindi naman 'yung OA na kain nang kain. At saka kung kaya every night na mag-tea, nag-ti-tea ako talaga,” she said.

In fact, Rivera admitted that she is a chocoholic as she considers the sweet her daily guilty pleasure.

But sexiness is more than just skin-deep, the actress said.

“Siguro kapag mayroon ka talagang bilib sa sarili mo at alam mo na kaya mong dalhin 'yung sarili mo, para sa akin sexy ka. Whether wearing long-sleeves with pants or other clothes, sexy ka basta kaya mong dalhin yung sarili mo at confident ka na parang ‘Kaya ko ‘to,’” she said.

“I know this experience is something new to you and something which you will always look back to and be proud of. Just enjoy everything. Happy ako para sa 'yo and sa movie mo,” he said.

Dingdong Dantes in ABS-CBN movie anew

Actor paired with Bea Alonzo for anniversary film

MANILA -- Dingdong Dantes feels "fortunate" to be part of the year-long 20th anniversary celebration of ABS-CBN's film production outfit.

The 32-year-old actor, who is considered one of the prized leading men of ABS-CBN's rival network GMA-7, is starring in yet another Star Cinema film to mark the third year in a row he has been involved in a high-profile Kapamilya project.

"I'm very fortunate that I'm given the opportunity," Dantes told ABS-CBN News shortly after the film's story conference held Friday.

Referring to the movie as among Star Cinema's 20th anniversary offerings, the actor added, "Pag gano'n, medyo special talaga 'di ba? And I'm very fortunate na makakasama ako sa ganoong klaseng celebration, even though I wasn't there since day 1. But over the last 2 years, kahit paano [naging parte ako]."

Although largely identified with GMA-7, Dantes has appeared in a number of ABS-CBN projects, including the Metro Manila Film Festival entries "Segunda Mano" and "One More Try."

Both produced by Star Cinema, the films scored back-to-back Best Actor trophies for Dantes in 2011 and 2012.

New leading lady

For his third film with ABS-CBN, Dantes will work for the first time with Bea Alonzo in a story that centers on the pair as best friends.

Although the two have previously worked together in fashion shows and, most recently, a magazine shoot, they have never co-starred in an acting project.

"I'm extremely happy na finally makakatrabaho ko siya," Dantes said, referring to his fourth Kapamilya leading lady after Kris Aquino in "Seguna Mano," and Angel Locsin and Angelica Panganiban in "One More Try."

Alonzo is likewise excited over her team-up with Dantes.

"Ako, I'm excited na finally makakatrabaho ko na siya, kasi alam naman natin na hindi siya everyday nangyayari," she said, before turning to Dantes to add, "I'm very honored na makatrabaho ka."

Like her new leading man, Alonzo said she feels grateful to headline a project that is part of Star Cinema's anniversary line-up.

"Syempre masaya [ako], kasi alam naman natin na every project, every movie na ginagawa nila for the 20th anniversary, ay maganda. Sinimulan 'yon ng 'Four Sisters,' tapos ngayon may 'Tuhog,' and these movies are doing very well," she said.

The actress was referring to the family "dramedy," "Four Sisters and a Wedding," and the black comedy film, "Tuhog," which are still showing in cinemas nationwide.

Alonzo is also among the lead cast members of the Cathy Garcia-Molina-directed "Four Sisters and a Wedding," along with Locsin, Toni Gonzaga, Shaina Magdayao and Enchong Dee.

No pressure

Asked if she feels pressured with the prospect of her latest film -- it being her first team-up with Dantes, and her second Star Cinema anniversary movie -- Alonzo said she prefers to simply "enjoy" the experience of being with a new group of people.

"Ako, I don't want to get pressured, lalo na this early. Ang gusto ko lang mag-enjoy habang ginagawa 'tong pelikulang 'to, to get to know this person (Dantes). I just want to have fun doing this movie.

"Tapos na ako doon sa nakaka-pressure na movies, hindi ba? Nando'n na 'ko sa 'I want each moment to count,' and to make memories with them, with this group," she said.

Agreeing with his new on-screen partner, Dantes added, "I think mag-e-enjoy talaga kami rito. Enjoy, meaning enjoy sa paggawa, and definitely 'yung mga manonood, ay mag-ee-njoy sila sa mapapanood nila. At the same time, maraming mapupulot na mga aral, about relationships, about themselves."

By this time a frequent collaborator of Star Cinema, Dantes was asked whether he now considers the film outfit his "family."

"I love doing movies, gustung-gusto 'yung mga taong katrabaho ko, and everytime I'm on the set, and everytime na gumagawa ako, I always treasure them. I always treat everyone just like family," he said.

The title of the film, as well as its director, have yet to be announced.

Dingdong hopes to marry Marian 'very soon'

MANILA, Philippines – After being together for more than three years now, actor Dingdong Dantes admitted he is hoping to settle down with girlfriend Marian Rivera “very soon.”

In an interview with “KrisTV” on Monday, Dantes said he has not yet asked for Rivera’s hand for marriage but it is his dream for them to get married.

“Siyempre it is my dream to have that very soon. There’s a proper time for that and I’m hoping na makarating na tayo very soon. Wala pang pamamanhikan,” he said.

Dantes, who is busy promoting his upcoming movie "One More Try" for Star Cinema, said they are just enjoying their time together since their respective work schedules are equally hectic.

“Malaking bagay sa amin 'yung short trips. Minsan nga kahit 'yung sa eroplano lang, masaya na ako doon eh,” he said.

Just recently, their relationship was plagued with rumors after the actor got linked to TV host-actress Isabelle Daza.

Dantes, however, assured everyone that his relationship with Rivera has only gotten stronger.

"In fact, we've never been this happy. Confident naman kami sa relationship namin, that we're stronger now than we were before," he said.

Apart from Dantes, "One More Try" also stars Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo. An entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival, the movie opens in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day.

Why Dingdong is part of Star Cinema film 'One More Try'

MANILA, Philippines - Although he is not part of the Kapamilya network, actor Dingdong Dantes was chosen to be one of the leading men in "One More Try", Star Cinema's entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival.

Ruel Bayani, the movie's director, explained the reason behind this in an interview with entertainment reporters last week.

He cited Dantes' acting chops particularly in the horror film "Segunda Mano", a previous MMFF entry where he starred alongside the country's "Queen of All Media" Kris Aquino.

Bayani added that they also wanted their film to have a new mix of actors to give it a "different flavor".

"Remember si Dingdong, gusto namin siya sa Star Cinema kasi fresh pa lang siya sa 'Segunda Mano', nag-breakthrough performance siya doon, nanalo siya doon," the "One More Try" director explained.

"Hindi namin sinasabi na hindi magagawa ng Kapamilya actor ang magagawa niya. Sinasabi lang namin na priority namin na mabigyan ng bagong putahe ang mga audience, kasi ayaw naming sabihin nila na 'wala na bang bago?' So ito, bago. Ang mga tao, ibang kumbinasyon, ibang halo-halo ito. So iba ang magiging lasa niyan."

In "One More Try", Dantes plays the role of Edward, who is married to Jacqueline, portrayed by Angelica Panganiban. The film's two other lead stars include Angel Locsin and Zanjoe Marudo.

"Ang akala ng mga tao mahirap [kunin si Dingdong]. Nag-present kami at nagustuhan nila, napapapayag sila," Bayani said.

"The truth was ang akala ng mga tao mahirap (kunin si Dingdong), nag-present kami at nagustuhan nila, napapayag sila," Bayani told reporters.

"One More Try" will be screened in theaters nationwide starting Christmas Day, December 25.

Isabelle can handle 'wars' over Dingdong, says mom

MANILA, Philippines -- Actress and former beauty queen Gloria Diaz expressed confidence that her daughter, TV host Isabelle Daza, can handle "wars" that may erupt over her being romantically linked to an actor who is currently in a long-term relationship.

"Alam mo, kaya ni Belle 'yan. Belle is a basketball player. She's a soccer player," Diaz told reporters on Monday night, when asked if her daughter is "prepared" for a possible "war" with actress Marian Rivera, the girlfriend of actor Dingdong Dantes.

In recent weeks, Daza has been romantically linked to Dantes, whose relationship with Rivera started in late 2008.

Rivera is known to have figured in public spats with women who were linked to Dantes during their relationship.

"But [Isabelle] is not the type to get somebody else's boyfriend. Hindi siya 'yung tipong ganun eh, nang-aagaw," said Diaz, who maintains there is no truth to a supposed blooming romance between Dantes and her daughter.

"I think they've only met once during the pictorials and everything. I haven't seen any flowers at home or chocolates... So baka hindi totoo," she added.

In April, Daza and Dantes were launched as the endorsers of a clothing line's specialized consumer card.

The veteran actress, however, also expressed concern over the controversy.

"Huwag lang sana siya awayin ng kung sinu-sino diyan. Kasi hindi niya kaya 'yan, mababa ang luha ni Belle eh, baka mapaiyak," Diaz said.

"Kasi she's really like that. She's very sensitive, and she's not the type. Hindi siya sanay sa bakbakan," she added.
