How to make cake pops at home

MANILA - Delicious and easy to make, cake pops are a great gift idea not only for Christmas but for any occasion.

Chef Jackie Laudico said cake pops can serve as last-minute gifts for the holiday season and is a good way to repurpose leftover cake from noche buena.

The process of making cake pops is simple: break the cake into crumbles, mold them into balls, put them in sticks, and dip them in melted chocolate and sprinkles.

"'Di ba meron tayo 'yung mga sobrang cake? You can make it into cake pops," Laudico said on Friday's episode of "Kris TV."

The chef then demonstrated how she makes cake pops. Using leftover butterscotch cupcakes, Laudico crumbles them into fine crumbs and forms them into small balls.

Before attaching the lollipop sticks, she first dips them in chocolate to make sure that the cake pops would stick.

"What I've learned is para hindi siya agad natatanggal [sa stick], you dip it in chocolate para mas nakakapit," she said.

After this, dip the cake pops in frosting, in pure melted chocolate or in ganache, which includes cream and chocolate.

The trick, said Laudico, is to "make the chocolate pull itself" by moving the stick up and down for a nice, thin chocolate coating.

Then, add sprinkles to add color to the cake pops. Place them in the chiller to set.

Laudico said a cake pop can be made for as low as P10.

"Nagmamahal lang siya 'pag 'yung mga imported na chocolate 'yung gamitin mo," she said.

Makeup tips from the pros

MANILA – Three of the country’s top makeup artists share their secrets to making beauty queens, models and celebrities look good.

On Wednesday’s episode of “Kris TV,” Albert Kurniawan, RB Chanco and Rissa Mananquil-Trillo showed viewers how to achieve different looks using makeup, including the one used by Miss Universe 2013 third-runner up Ariella Arida.

Kurniawan, who is the chief makeup artist of NARS Philippines, is behind the glammed up faces of Arida and her predecessors in the Miss Universe pageant Venus Raj, Shamcey Supsup and Janine Tugonon.

Chanco, on the other hand, is a well-known celebrity makeup artist whose clients include Kathryn Bernardo, Erich Gonzales, Bianca Gonzalez and ABS-CBN president Charo Santos-Concio.

Mananquil-Trillo, meanwhile, is a model, beauty columnist and the co-founder of the Happy Skin cosmetics line.

For the beauty queen look

Kurniawan said the first step to achieving a made up look similar to beauty queens is putting a primer, concealer and a tinted moisturizer “to make the skin look more natural instead of having a powder finish.”

Set with translucent powder and add contour to the face. Before doing eye makeup, work on the cheeks first.

“Sometimes, they start with the eyes. But if they start with the eyes strong and apply blush, sometimes we think it’s enough already. Then after a while, it’s kulang pala and then we don’t have the makeup with us,” Kurniawan said.

Using a good makeup brush, apply dark brown eye shadow on the entire lid and blend. Proceed with using eye paint, and then with the eyeliner on the water line.

Curl the eyelashes, and finish with mascara.

For chinitas

Kurniawan suggests starting with eyeliner since the objective is to make the eyes look bigger and the face more “awake.”

“Just a black eyeliner, apply on the outer part of the eye. Blend and then smudge it,” he said. “Kasi for chinita eyes, if you just put a thin liner, it won’t be seen that much.”

Blend with dark brown powder eye shadow, curl the eyelashes, and add mascara to “open” the eyes.

If you want to make your eyes look even bigger, use false lashes. As for the cheeks and lips, just keep it simple.

For the ‘no makeup’ look

Although tricky since “it has to look like there is nothing,” the “no makeup” look is doable, said Chanco.

An easy way to achieve this look is by using airbrush with liquid foundation, followed by blush with a hint of shimmer for that natural glow.

Since you can’t use too much makeup, emphasize the eyebrows by using a dark brown eyebrow pencil, and a pinkish white eye shadow on the eyelids.

The eyeliner should not be too thick, either – just apply black eyeliner on the upper lash and water line, and a soft brown one on the lower lash line.

Complete the look with a soft peach lip cream.

For night makeup

Night makeup is quite similar to the “no makeup look,” except that there is “more intense” contouring on the face.

Chanco said a safe suggestion is to make the eyes look “smoky” with eye shadow, although this still depends on the occasion.

“I-consider more rin kung saan ka pupunta. And the lighting also,” she said.

Apply a more intense pink blush and waterproof eyeliner if you plan on dancing all night so your makeup will last longer.

For job interviews

Mananquil-Trillo said applicants for job interviews should stay away from makeup that glitters or is too bright.

Start with a concealer to brighten the face, correct redness and cover blemishes. Use black eyeliner to define the eyes, and finish the look with peach blush and nude colored lipstick.

For those with blemishes, try a product that will not aggravate the skin, such as a second skin cream with a powder finish.

For holiday makeup

There is no hard and fast rule for holiday makeup, noted Mananquil-Trillo, who said that the idea is to achieve a look that is fun and festive.

The simplest way to do this, she said, is by using bold red lipstick.

“Ano pa ba ang pinaka-festive na color but the color red? It reminds us of Christmas and mas celebratory mood ‘pag bright colors,” she said.

You can also use eyeliner to make the eyes look bigger.

Sharon sets concerts in California with KC

MANILA, Philippines -- Veteran actress-singer Sharon Cuneta may have taken a break from television but this doesn't mean she is totally inactive in showbiz.

According to Cuneta's daughter, actress-host KC Concepcion, her mother will be having a concert this May 25 and May 26 in San Francisco, California.

"I will be guesting in her shows so we will be in States together," Concepcion said in "KrisTV" on Thursday.

Last February, Cuneta announced that she is taking a break from television.

However, the 47-year-old Cuneta denied that her break had something to do with speculations spreading at the time that she wants to return to ABS-CBN.

Cuneta signed up as a talent of TV5 in late 2011 for a reported P1-billion five-year contract. Before transferring to the No. 3 network, Cuneta was an ABS-CBN talent for over two decades.

Gumabao siblings defend dad Dennis Roldan

MANILA, Philippines -- What are brothers for?

Kapamilya young actor Marco Gumabao is ready to get into a fight to defend his sister La Salle spiker Michelle Gumabao.

In an interview on "KrisTV" on Monday, the "Luv U" star recalled one instance when he almost got into a fight with a basher who was very critical of his sister.

"It was too personal na kasi. He (the basher) was already talking about my family already, not about me anymore," Michelle explained.

"Because whenever people bash me I don't care anymore. Even before he would bash me already. What hurt me most is he's close to some of my best friends, to my sister. For me don't post it in public kasi even my sisters can see," the star volleyball player added, referring to her basher's Twitter posts.

"Actually 'yung buong family namin 'yung nakipag-away sa kanya," Marco clarified. "Kasi sakto we watched the play 'Aladdin' sa Meralco Theater at saktong nandoon siya."

"My mom was really mad. Because what he did wasn't about me anymore; it's but about my dad. He brought everything back na maybe I'm mayabang or I'm a player because my dad was like that before. So doon nagalit ang family ko," Michelle explained. "Because when he calls me ugly, doon ako walang ginagawa. But when he started posting stuff about my dad that, affected my whole family talaga. It's being brought out in the public again (when) it died down na."

The La Salle player was referring to the case of their father, former actor Dennis Roldan, who was arrested and jailed for allegedly masterminding a kidnapping in 2005.

A year later, Roldan posted bail and started a new life. He is now a pastor of Jesus Christ the Life Giver Ministry.

Jessy Mendiola's sister to also join showbiz

MANILA, Philippines -- Showbiz boasts of several siblings such as Toni and Alex Gonzaga, Vina Morales and Shaina Magdayao and Anne Curtis and Jasmine Curtis-Smith.

Add Jessy Mendiola and sister Pam to the list after the "Paraiso" actress announced on Thursday that her older sister will soon join showbiz as well.

"Ate ko is entering showbiz," Mendiola told "KrisTV" host Kris Aquino. "Sabi niya, 'I'm going to try it out pero if it doesn't work then I'll go somewhere else.'"

Unlike Jessy who is with ABS-CBN, Pam signed up with Viva Entertainment.

"She's starting out and I can see myself sa kanya. Kasi when I was starting out ganun na ganun din siya. Sabi ko, 'Kaya mo 'yan andito lang ako para alagaan ka,'" Jessy said.

In the interview, Jessy, who's a high school graduate, also said she doesn't plan to stay in showbiz forever, which is why she plans to finish her education.

"I'm not planning naman to stay in showbiz forever. I mean I want my own family, I want a normal life. For me, parang feeling ko hindi ko carry na pagsabayin lahat," she said.

"My mom told me you have to pursue your education too. Ngayon, yes, there are opportunities, this is your bread and butter and everything. But showbiz isn't forever, so you should have a fallback or you should know what to do right after showbiz," she added.

On Matteo

Meanwhile, Jessy also admitted that she already met the parents of rumored boyfriend and "Paraiso" co-star Matteo Guidicelli.

But when asked if she's now close to Guidicelli's mother, the young actress replied: "Hindi naman po siguro, nahihiya naman ako (sagutin). I've been to their house a lot of times (in Alabang)."

Jessy recently joined Guidicelli  and his family for the actor's  birthday celebration.

"We did feeding program for Matteo. He does that every year, every time he celebrates his birthday. It was his birthday last March 26. It was a surprise for him because he didn't know that I was coming," she said.

Without confirming if she and Guidicelli are now officially a couple, Jessy also said she's happy with her life right now.

"Happy, happy lang," she said. "Before I used to think too much, always cry and paranoid of everything. Then I realized this is life. I mean you have to make mistakes,  you have to learn but at the same time you have to embrace it, you are growing up.

"I realized that if I want to work hard  I should also be happy with what's happening to me. I think that's where contentment and happiness comes in. I'm happy with my life right now. Paraiso really did a lot for me and I met new people, new friends and I'm happy with my family right now," she said.

Yeng Constantino denies that she's a lesbian

MANILA, Philippines -- Singer Yeng Constantino on Monday spoke up on rumors that she's a lesbian.

In an interview on "KrisTV" aired on Monday, Constantino stressed that the reason she doesn't have a boyfriend is because she's still waiting for the right guy.

"Unang una po sa lahat, sobrang hindi po ako galit sa mga taong naga-accuse sa akin. So kung sinasabi nila 'yan eh ginagalang ko po and opinyon nila," Constantino told host Kris Aquino.

"Pero sobrang secured lang po ako on who I am. I am a woman. Babae po ako at pinagsisigawan ko po' yan," she stressed.

Constantino believes her love for rock music may have led some people to believe that she's a lesbian.

"Siguro nagtataka sila dahil rakista ako at moderno pero conservative po talaga ako. I'm just waiting for that one person who will love me for the rest of my life. I just don't want to give away my 'oo' to anyone else," she said.

"Ang hirap nga pangatawanan dahil ang daming gwapo sa industriya pero gusto mong gawin at panindigan kasi mahal ko ang magulang ko. Gusto ko na kapag tinignan ako nila ni mama at papa, na kahit independent na ako, masasabi nila na kahit wala na si Yeng sa bahay ay kinip (keep) niya ang mga itinuro namin sa kanya," she explained.

Asked what she looks for in a guy, the singer said it is important that her partner is God-fearing.

Jason Francisco wants to start over with Melai

MANILA, Philippines -- Comedian Jason Francisco has admitted that he wants to renew his relationship with former girlfriend Melai Cantiveros

During the Thursday episode of the morning show “KrisTV,” host Kris Aquino kept teasing Francisco and Cantiveros while they were touring the new home of celebrity couple Cheska Garcia and Doug Kramer.

Aquino said it was evident from their body language that they have gotten back together, something which Cantiveros herself refuted.

“Hindi talaga kami nagbalikan Ms. Kris. Kung nagkabalikan kami sasabihin ko sayo kaagad,” she said.

The actress, however, said Francisco has been sending her text messages again recently.

“Hindi kami naglalandian. Lagi siya nagte-text, manood daw kami ng sine after mass,” she shared.

Thrilled to hear that they are communicating regularly again, Aquino asked Francisco if he is again courting Cantiveros.

“Parang nagsa-start ulit kami. Hindi naman ligaw 'yun. Parang gusto ko lang ibalik 'yung dati namin na maayos ulit,” he explained.

Last February, it was revealed on national television that Francisco and Cantiveros were no longer a couple.

In a heart-to-heart talk inside the Pinoy Big Brother House, Francisco told Cantiveros that he needs space, saying he is having a hard time focusing on his work and family.

"Ang kailangan ko lang ay space. Sobrang hirap kaya. Hindi ba sabi ko ang focus ko sobrang dami para sa akin. Ikaw, parang di ko naibibigay lahat, parang kapag naisip lang kita, kapag may time lang ako, kapag na-miss lang," he said.

Francisco also noted that things have changed ever since they left the PBB house.

Since the breakup, Cantiveros has had several suitors but has remained single.

In a previous interview, Francisco said he is still open to a reconciliation with Cantiveros.

Is Chef Jayps the new crush of Kris?

Is "MasterChef Pinoy Edition" judge JP "Jayps" Anglo the newest inspiration of host-actress Kris Aquino?

Last Thursday, Aquino shared to her Twitter followers that there is someone who is making her blush these days -- but denied that it's Brazilian model-actor Daniel Matsunaga, who is being constantly teased with her.

Then on Sunday, during a live interview on "The Buzz," Aquino excitedly told good friend Boy Abunda, "Tatlo ang nagpapakilig sa akin."

She then teased viewers by saying one of them will be her guest on "KrisTV" the following day.

On Monday, Aquino's morning show featured guest co-host Sen. Francis "Chiz" Escudero, who is currently in a relationship with actress Heart Evangelista; Chef Dino Dizon, who admitted on the show that he has a girlfriend; director Lino Cayetano; and Anglo.

Who is Chef Jayps?

Joseph Patrick Anglo is the chef-owner of Mai Po Chinese Restaurant and Mu Shu Asian Restaurant and Lounge in Bacolod City.

He obtained a Diploma in Culinary Arts and Technology Management from the Center of Culinary Arts in Manila and also in Australia, where he earned three certificates in commercial cookery from Le Cordon Bleu in Sydney and another certificate in hospitality management at TAFE Ultimo, a school for technical and further education also in Sydney.

For the past years, Anglo has been jetting to Singapore for his do-it-yourself food safari tours.

It was Anglo's second time to guest on "KrisTV," after appearing on the show's January 11, 2013 episode, where he prepared arroz caldo and champorado.

Even then, the studio audience couldn't help but notice sparks between Anglo and Aquino, who even praised the chef for his "beautiful eyes."

She even joked, "After James, Jayps naman," while Anglo admitted that he was being distracted.

Aquino also asked if the chef was single. And when he said yes, she asked, "What's your size?" when she meant to say, "What's your sign?"

However, she found out that they are not astrologically compatible.

Flowers for you

Two weeks later, Anglo was back on "KrisTV." On Monday, he prepared an omelette with longganisa and kesong puti.

While cooking, the chef was obviously distracted and even failed to make a perfect omelette.

"Yan ang epekto natin, pressure," Aquino told him.

After cooking his special breakfast dish, Anglo then gave Aquino flowers for her studio kitchen, which came with a letter.

Pressed by Escudero to read the letter aloud, Aquino refused.

"Nakikialam. Kain ka na lang," Aquino told Escudero.

Twitter response

Netizens were abuzz during the episode as they tried to guess the identity of Aquino's secret crush. While there were some who believe it is Cayetano, most agree that Anglo is the one.

Twitter user Maria Kareen Rosana tweeted: "Waaahhhh hahahah!!! Hula ko si Chef Jayps 'yun! Hahahah ..'Wow effort si chef! May bulaklak! Sweeeeeettt!"

Twitter user Chi chai said: "Watching 'KrisTV.' Kinikilig ako kay Kris and kay Chef J. Yeeeee!"

Twitter user Ella said: "Talagang puro bloopers si Chef Jayps today sa 'KrisTV'! Effect ni Ms. Kris hahaha... natense! hangkyut!"

Twitter user Axel Ross Llabore even christened the new tandem: "Kakakilig naman silang dalawa Kris Aquino + Chef Jayps = Kryps."

Entertainment columnist Ogie Diaz asked Aquino via Twitter if her crush is indeed Anglo.

"Naku pare... Hehehe. See u later," Aquino replied to Diaz.

Later in the day, Anglo thanked Aquino via Twitter for guesting him on her show. "Thanks 'KrisTV' for having us over for breakfast earlier. Thank god that omelette got saved & masarap," he said.

Aquino, who had been rather quiet on the micro-blogging site earlier Monday, thanked the chef for his gifts. "Thanks for the effort chef! Thank you for the flowers & the pasalubong - but my biggest thank you is for the lechon kawali. Excited to get home & eat. See you Thursday! "

Aquino and Anglo further exchanged tweets about cooking.

Nothing wrong

In her interview with "The Buzz," Aquino was visibly thrilled about her new crush.

"Text text lang muna. Hindi masama 'yon, normal at natural ang kiligin araw araw," she told Abunda. "Hayaan mo na Boy. Ang tagal-tagal ng hindi nararamdaman ito eh."

"Aminin naman natin, kahit sinasabi ko na okay na ako at maligaya na kami ng mga anak ko, siyempre naman at the end of the day, especially when Bimby gets married, I want a partner. It’s not wrong to wish for that. Hindi naman masama na mag-pray for a happily ever after," she said.

Dingdong hopes to marry Marian 'very soon'

MANILA, Philippines – After being together for more than three years now, actor Dingdong Dantes admitted he is hoping to settle down with girlfriend Marian Rivera “very soon.”

In an interview with “KrisTV” on Monday, Dantes said he has not yet asked for Rivera’s hand for marriage but it is his dream for them to get married.

“Siyempre it is my dream to have that very soon. There’s a proper time for that and I’m hoping na makarating na tayo very soon. Wala pang pamamanhikan,” he said.

Dantes, who is busy promoting his upcoming movie "One More Try" for Star Cinema, said they are just enjoying their time together since their respective work schedules are equally hectic.

“Malaking bagay sa amin 'yung short trips. Minsan nga kahit 'yung sa eroplano lang, masaya na ako doon eh,” he said.

Just recently, their relationship was plagued with rumors after the actor got linked to TV host-actress Isabelle Daza.

Dantes, however, assured everyone that his relationship with Rivera has only gotten stronger.

"In fact, we've never been this happy. Confident naman kami sa relationship namin, that we're stronger now than we were before," he said.

Apart from Dantes, "One More Try" also stars Angel Locsin, Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo. An entry to this year's Metro Manila Film Festival, the movie opens in theaters nationwide on Christmas Day.

Ai Ai defends relationship with younger man

MANILA, Philippines - Even cougars deserve to be happy and loved.

In an interview with KrisTV on Friday, comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas, who's now with Jed Salang, a businessman 20 years her junior, said a relationship between a woman who's much older than a man is possible with God's love.

Delas Alas said she's aware that people might think that Salang is just after her wealth. She added, however, that what's important in a relationship is not the age or wealth gap but love.

"Palagi namang ganoon eh.

Salang comes from a well-off family and works as a manager in the family's car dealership.

Salang said he doesn't mind people asking him why he chose delas Alas.

"(Ang sagot ko) hindi ko alam, wala naman kayong magagawa, yun ang gusto ko eh. Para sa akin, kapag nagtataong 'Babe, tinitignan mo ba yung age gap natin?' Sabi ko 'ako hindi ko maramdaman yung age natin ay ganito. Parang feeling ko ay magkasing-age tayo, magkasing level tayo, yung ganoon,'" Salang said.

MANILA, Philippines - Actress Dimples Romana couldn't help but cry as she recalled how she and her family struggled to survive the death of their sister Sarah due to leukemia and their father due to aneurism.

Romana was only 16 when her father passed away. As the eldest, she took the responsibility to take care of their family.

In her guesting on "KrisTV" on Wednesday, Romanao revealed that she joined show business to earn money to help her father because her sister Sarah was diagnosed with leukemia.

"Those years were really difficult for my family. Talagang babang baba. Kaya siguro ngayon mas matamis kapag may magandang nangyayari sa amin. My sister had leukemia when she was five. She passed away when she was eight. So while we were recuperating from that three long years, I asked my mama and papa to please sana magbigay sila sa amin ng baby ulit. Noong ipinanganak si Angeli, four months pa lang nag-aneurism naman ang papa ko. So medyo mabigat sa amin ito," the actress said.

According to her brother, former "Pinoy Big Brother" housemate Bam, Romana did a great job in taking care of their family.

He said it was his sister who also provided him with everything he needs.

"I never doubted my sister po. I never doubted her," Bam said.

Romana said it wasn't hard for her to fight for her family, especially since she has loving siblings.

"Hindi naging mahirap sa akin na ilaban sila dahil nakita mo naman 'yung pamilya. Hindi naman nagloko si Bam, walang nagrebelde sa pamilya ko at masasabi ko na kahit nawala si papa ay kumpleto kami kasi walang bumitaw sa amin. At saka hindi nakakapanghinayang na pag-aralin ang ganitong klaseng bata," she said.

The actress is now the proud sister to Bam, who is now a registered nurse and an English teacher in a Korean school in ParaƱaque.

Zoren talked to twins about BB Gandanghari

MANILA, Philippines -- Twins Cassie and Maverick doesn't mind if their father, Zoren Legaspi, wasn't the first husband of their mother, actress Carmina Villaroel.

On "KrisTV" on Monday, Legaspi said he was caught by surprise when his twins told him that they already knew that Rustom Padilla, now known as BB Gandanghari, is their mom's first husband.

"Nalaman nila 'yung kabuuan ng plano (ng kasal) a week before. Pero bago ko sinabi 'yun (kasal) sa kanila mayroon akong sinabi sa kanila -- 'yung history ng buhay ng mama nila. I have to say it, I have to tell them 'yung love story ni Mina dati," Legaspi told host Kris Aquino.

"Pero ito sabi ko kailangan kong sabihin para maintindihan nila kung bakit kami ikakasal. Kasi ang alam nila kasal kami ni Mina. So kinausap ko sila, sabi ko, 'Kids, dapat kaming dalawa ng mommy niyo ang magsasabi nito but I have to say it now dahil hindi ba...' I was preparing na parang Coco Martin ang drama and you know iyakan. Sabi ko, 'I'm not the first husband of your mommy.' Sab noong dalawa, 'Yeah, we know.' 'What? What do you mean we know? Eh, sino ang first husband ng mommy niyo?' 'That dude, that BB.' Sabi ko, 'What? You know?' Sabi ko, 'Who told you this?' 'We watched 'The Buzz,'" Legaspi recalled.

The actor said even when he had a one-on-one interview with Gandanghari, he and Villaroel never told their children about him.

"I felt very good not because inamin ko sa kanila but because of how they handled it. Sabi ko, 'Wow walang insecurities itong dalawang ito.' For them, it's just water under the bridge," Legaspi said.

The celebrity couple said they were really planning to tell the truth to their kids but they were just waiting for the right time.

Villaroel admitted that for years their children believed that she and Legaspi were already married -- which they never denied nor confirmed.

"Kasi ang bata in-assume nila na kapag magkasama kayo sa bahay at may mommy at daddy eh -- kasal. So they just assumed and hindi ko muna kinorek 'yon for a time, kumbaga hindi ko [itinanggi] hindi ko [kinumpirma]. Kasi alam ko darating ang time na ito na sasabihin ko din sa kanila," the actress said.

Last Thursday, Villaroel and Legaspi were married after the actor-host proposed to his partner of 12 years.

Legaspi asked the help of his children, as well colleagues of the actress-host from ABS-CBN, to carry out the surprise proposal and wedding ceremony at Fernbrook Garden in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
